Name: Cosette Blanchard Gender: Female Age: 21 Trainer Class: Playwright Height: 5'4" Weight: 129 pounds Religion: Agnostic Character Theme: Self-Discovery |
Appearance
{Hair Color & Style}Cosette's hair is colored a warm, gentle brown, falling to her shoulders towards the front but towards her lower shoulderblades in the back. Excessively maintained, it tends to be very shiny and free of knots and split ends. It is thick in texture and not lacking in volume. The playwright often wears it tied up in buns or elaborate braids, though something she's rarely seen without is a small ornamental hairpiece. It's made from solid gold and shaped similar to a tiara. A small amethyst dots its center. The piece is a family heirloom, passed down along the first-born women in the Blanchard family for generations. {Clothing & Accessories}Born in a rich family, Cosette's wardrobe is extremely expensive. Her years on the stage have left her fashion sense in peak condition. During her time as a gym leader, she had a tendency to always keep up with the latest fashions, as was in line with her stage persona. Her most favored outfit is a thick white skirt that falls to her ankles, with a little bit of lace on the end, tall leather boots with a one inch heel, and a silk button down shirt. On top of this is worn a tailored blue vest and a purple cape, emblazoned with the fleur de lis, a cultural symbol from Beliae with an extensive history. However, when alone, she often wears leggings and colored button-down shirts. During colder climates, she tends to don fur-lined coats. During the summer, her wardrobe tends to stay the same regardless of changes in temperature. When using makeup, she prefers subtle accentuation of her natural features- sharp colors and vibrant lines are not something she does. {General Appearance}A woman of average stature, Cosette usually ends up wearing elaborate clothing to stand out. She tends to be a little thin, and round in the face. Her cheeks possess a natural blush that she's very proud of, but it tends to fade in the winters when she's out of sunlight. The woman possesses warm brown hair, dark blue eyes that can appear violet in the correct lighting, and a small nose. Her ears are small as well. She tends to burn instead of tan in the sun, so when it gets bright she likes to stay in the shade. Her fingers are long, but her fingernails are usually trimmed short. Her hands possess callouses due to many years of writing. She is not particularly in or out of shape, but often has trouble lifting heavy weights. When she walks, she tends to move with a confident stride. Her voice sounds warm, but when she sings she can hit dramatically high notes that leaves your ears ringing if you are too close. Her natural expression tends to be very neutral, and can be mistaken as haughtiness by other people. Despite having good looks, however, many people tend to underestimate how much time and money is spent to make sure that everything's in order before going outside. Above all, she's a stunning young woman when she puts time and effort into her appearance, and often seems to embody the stereotypical Beliaean woman. |
Biography
Hometown: Batière, Beliae
{Personality}Personality: Cosette is a true idealist, always looking for the good in people and events, and constantly striving to make things better. Though often perceived as reserved and aloof, she holds an inner passion that can truly shine in her chosen profession. She is often motivated by purity of intent as opposed to punishment and reward. In other words, when making decisions, she looks to her own internal principles and morality for an answer. This enables her to communicate deeply with others on an emotional level- something which she frequently takes advantage of when writing. Her morals tend to be stagnant, not changing with the times or new events. These beliefs tend not to follow the law to the letter, and can be summed up as 'leave the world a better place than you found it'.
She is a true listener, and her gentle disposition often puts people at ease. She can listen to other people's problems for hours on end while offering a metaphorical shoulder to lean on. Despite this, she has few true acquaintances and friends, instead preferring to live almost entirely inside of a rich inner world. Intensely focused on the personal growth of both herself and others, she strives to push herself to new heights. This can come off as annoying rather than endearing to others. Cosette tends to accept differences in others without reservation- be they in ethnicity, morality, or view of the world.
Spending many hours of the day in a rich imaginative world, the young playwright is capable of sitting still for hours on end in her quest for inspiration. When writing, Cosette is fond of displaying complex emotional situations and events. She tends not to stick to any one schedule, instead relying on seemingly randomized bursts of activity to get things done. Her workspace is messy and unorganized, but she knows where everything is located. Attempts to organize it by other people have frequently resulted in lost objects not found until many months later.
She loves stories and tales of all kinds. Cosette tends to collect opera librettos and ancient classics, in addition to more modern video games and graphic novels. The thing she most intensely values when it comes to books is its ability to make her feel attached. She tries to replicate this in her writing, but whether or not it is successful depends on the viewer.
She tends to come off as reserved, aloof, and snooty to other people. This is less due to shyness and more due to the fact that her inner world is simply much more interesting than reality. When she does make a friend, however, she will intensely value them and often do small things to help them out throughout their day that often go unnoticed- turning the temperature to one they like, feeding their pokemon for them, making sure their car has gas.
Stage freight is not a word in Cosette's vocabulary. She is frequently and readily willing to put herself in front of other people, and often comes off entirely different on stage than she does in person. Her stage persona is of a stereotypical Beliaean woman- passionate, extroverted, and sensual. However, this mask is taxing to keep up for extended periods of time, and after long performances she tends to curl up on a couch or bed and read for many hours into the night.
The young woman tends to be firm when training, but prefers to use reward based methods when encouraging good behavior. She frequently stresses the importance of complete trust and cooperation, and most of her strategies rely heavily on these bonds. When offering advice to trainers, she regularly encourages them to get to know each other better first and foremost. Strategy wise, she likes to show off (as in line with her stage persona), but subtly manipulates the field with status based moves.

{History}History: The first and only heir of the illustrious Blanchard family in Beliae, Cosette grew up in the lap of luxury. Her mother, Camille Blanchard, was the current head of the family. She was a trainer of water type pokemon who doubled as a patron of the arts, often commissioning large works such as elaborate paintings. Though not a gym leader, she did hold a minor government position in the Ministry of Culture- a program that encouraged Belian culture through the spread and promotion of the arts. Her father, Jean Blanchard, was not a strong trainer nor a government official- he was, instead, an operatic tenor. Both were good people, though occasionally their status as good parents left much for debate.
Cosette was relatively isolated- not really allowed to spend too much time with people her age, and rather going to large events such as her father's operas. As a result, she started to curl in on herself, focusing intently on her inner world as opposed to what was happening outside. A lasting effect of this means that she still has difficulty talking to people her own age. She does dislike this, and wishes this was different- but doesn't tend to resent her parents for their shortcomings. She was mostly homeschooled, where she didn't particularly do poorly or impressively- she had no real interest in what she was learning, and thus had no motivation to study very much. What she did learn, however, was that she loved to write and read- her mind quickly became filled with stories of triumph, grand heroes, and tragic lovers.
At around age eight, she started receiving voice lessons. She didn't possess an incredible talent for it, but Cosette had finally found something she was interested in- therefore, she was a lot more motivated to practice and learn more on her own. Due to her hard work, she grew relatively quickly. At age nine, she received her first pokemon- A Frillish she named Monique that had been bred by her mother. It was around this age that her interest in ghost types manifested. Despite having been bred for beauty and battle, the water pokemon was content to sit on the sidelines and simply spend her days being doted on.
At age eleven, she really started to skyrocket with her vocal aptitude, her status as a dramatic soprano coming into play. She managed to hit higher notes than ever before at a projecting volume that would ring across entire rooms. It was also at this age that she received her second pokemon- a Honedge she adopted and affectionately nicknamed Antoine. Antoine, much like Monique, wasn't too much of a battler, but instead lived as a companion for the majority of her life. At age twelve, she wrote her first operetta- a short piece with four songs titled 'Monsieur Vivillon'. It was a cute story about beauty in the eye of the beholder, though she'd later revise this piece at age sixteen. At age fourteen, she starred in her first opera as a side character- it made her feel elated, and only encouraged her to work harder. It was around this point that she started to replace human contact almost entirely with pokemon due to her isolation, a behavior that was rectified at age fifteen by her parents. She was apprenticed to a minor government official who worked with her mother at this stage in an effort to have her travel and make friends. Cosette ended up making several acquaintances, but no actual lasting friendships. However, it did seem to satisfy her need for social interaction, so she was content.
At age seventeen, her apprenticeship was transferred to Hector Gavin, a man who held a position similar to a gym leader in Godai. She didn't hold any power or authority in this position, and instead spent the majority of her time learning how to raise pokemon and referee battles. At age nineteen, she had several more pokemon to her name, but there was a developing restlessness inside of her. She didn't feel like she was doing what she wanted to with her life. At age twenty, she took over the gym- an old opera house- and ran it for around eight months when she came to a conclusion. She wasn't ready for this kind of responsibility, and she'd rather take some time to get to know the person she wanted to become before an undertaking as massive as that. She retired from her position before taking a ship to Godai just after her 21st birthday, bringing nothing but a handful of belongings. All of her pokemon were in the care of her parents, except for a newly hatched Duskull, and the itself gym back in the care of Hector. Currently, she's at southwind seaport, fresh off the boat from her homeland and ready to write her first full-blown opera.
