Trainer Profile
Character Name: Adrienne Chartres
Nickname: Adri
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Trainer Class: Artist
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 128 lbs
Hair Color & Style:
She has long peach colored hair she keeps in a large, loose braid. What hair isn't in the braid is kept back through use of a headband or a scarf. While not something she does often, she occasionally works in ribbons or decorations into her braid. Though she proclaims a desire for utility over any sort of vanity, she seems to be rather proud of the longer hair, and does her best to keep it well managed. Despite how much time managing it takes, she always claims she doesn't have time for a haircut.
If her hair gets dirty she will claim not to be worried, but will spend longer than normal tending to it. If called out on her apparent hypocrisy, she will get flustered and insist it isn't important.
Eyes: Bright blue eyes that are always studying things around her, but tend to pass over the people. To say that Adrienne is easily distracted is a bit of a misnomer. She doesn't bounce from topic to topic, rather, her eyes get caught on things uniquely interesting to her. Even when she is studying a single object, they are flitting about, trying to soak in every detail about whatever has caught her attention. When frustrated, she will frown, but rarely ever narrows her eyes. When she is sad, the manic energy of her studying takes on more of a loop as she seems to avoid taking too much of any particular stimuli.
She has decent vision, but uses glasses sometimes for reading or detail work on a picture.
Clothing/Accessories:
Her clothes are simply simple in design, and she favors ease of movement over fashion. Most of her clothes are made by hand with cloth from Kotoba, using the higher expense of the fabric to ensure its longevity. Due to money issues, which only got worse when her mother took ill, Adrienne has a reverence for expensive clothes and accessories. Even store bought clothing seems extravagant to her, and she tends to feel guilty about amassing a "stockpile" of outfits beyond what is needed for everyday use.
While her general outfits are fine for mild and temperate regions, she has no experience with harsh winters or biting sands, and as such is not prepared for these environments. As with much of her choices, decisions would be made primarily on functionality, even if she has the money for something fancier. She especially dislikes things that can become caught on things, so avoids accessories such as charms or tassels. The sole exception to this is her bag, which she keeps notebooks and supplies in, and will often put herself in danger to recover it if it becomes separated from her.
General Appearance:
Adrienne is animated in her daily life. She uses a lot of hand gestures to help get her point across, and usually seems to have an almost impatient energy to her. When she becomes focused on something, she locks up, resisting input from everything around her, often to the detriment of others. She has a calm demeanor, usually coming across as non threatening. When angry, her stance becomes more forward leaning and her face expressive, but she has trouble coming across as aggressive.
She has doodled on her Pokeball with paint pens, trying to match the designs to her impression of her Pokemon. As time goes on, these designs will become overlaid, leading to the Pokeball's appearance changing often. While she does not care for charms herself, she does like accessories for her Pokemon, as it makes them more interesting to draw.
When happy, Adrienne bounces with a manic energy, while she tends to curl up more when sad. Due to her tendency to get ahead of her train of thought, she sometimes freezes up in conversation. She has different hand gestures different moods, favoring more dismissive ones when she is sad or tired, and more expressive ones for other moods. When angry, she instead stomps her feet, keeping her hands crossed or at her sides. When nervous, she plays with her braid.
She neither stands out due to height or build, and is fairly average, if a little on the weaker side due to a life of relatively little physical activity.
Hometown: Wisteur Town
Personality:
Somewhat naive, but good natured, Adrienne chooses Pokemon based off of how interesting they are to her. This is not a metric that seems to be definable, as it likely changes by the day. She is always on the lookout for opportunities to draw things that she finds fascinating, another definition that seems to be unique to herself. She has stopped in the middle of busy walkways to start drawing the reflections made by lights, or a really interested Pokemon nest in the alleyway.
Her ability as a trainer is lacking, as she seems to have a lot of the required basic knowledge, but gets so caught up in the aesthetic of the battle that she can forget what she is supposed to be doing. Despite all this, she isn't an airhead, but rather, she has different priorities on aspects of life and the world compared to most people. She has a huge fondness for people, and feels comfortable in the hustle and bustle of a small town. Large places, or places so opposite to the things she is used too are confusing and intriguing to her, and some of the sights she plans on visiting on her journey include caverns and metropolises. Angry people leave her off footed, and she is easily stunned by outbursts, while more mild frustration with her is oftentimes completely overlooked.
She has a strong sense of morality, shaped by life in a smaller town. This sometimes gets her into trouble as she inserts herself into discussions or goings on and then finds herself freezing up due to attention on her. She suffers from mild stage fright, and is uneasy when people watch her. Due to growing up in a limited income family, she is unsure of how to handle finances, and tends to overvalue expensive and mass produced items. Luckily, she also seems to have an aversion to hoarding, and as such does not feel the need to carry around empty potion bottles in case she needs them.
Things that elude her, such as wild Pokemon or images that won't draw right, cause her to hyper focus. She will stay rooted in spot or chase them depending on the nature of the thing in question.
She has a fondness for flowers, even though she is claims they are boring. This is something of a cover for her guilt at being unable to continue her mother's legacy, and the pain she feels at reminders of her mothers loss. In much the same way, she is unsure of how to proceed with being a trainer, as it feels like a betrayal of sorts to the memory of her mother. When she starts to get consumed by these doubts, she will turn to her Pokemon for comfort.
History:
Her mother owned a flower shop in Kotoba, and she never knew her father. While others consider the lack of a father a detriment, Adrienne never gave it much thought. Her mother was a central figure in her life, shaping many of the ideals the woman would hold. Her mother's smile, always warm, even when things were bad, gave the growing girl a bright outlook on life. Something she has held even to this day.
Much of her childhood was spent helping tend the store, and she was home schooled after age ten. While her knowledge of basic Pokemon aspects suffered, she had a lot of time to learn people. Since she had no one to play with, and little in the way to keep herself occupied, she started drawing. Pens and paper were plentiful, and there was plenty of time to practice drawing in the shop's down time. Drawing consumed her free time, and her art became the main focus of her life. While she had a few friends, they grew distant as she grew older. Necessity kept her close to the shop, but her mother did everything she could to help the young girl blossom as an artist and an individual. Despite how much the young girl wished to hide and draw, her mother made sure she interacted with customers and made deliveries to keep her from becoming withdrawn.
Her late teens were hectic for her as she had to take over the store due to her mother's failing health. Since it was just the two of them, she had to pick up more of the slack, arranging flowers for orders, and dealing with customers. Her lack of time to take up drawing lead her to start becoming bitter and withdrawn. When the store finally closed down, it was because she was having to devote all of her time to taking care of her mother.
During this time period, Adrienne started sewing her own clothes. Every moment was spent tending to her mother, and the burden consumed the girls life. Things got better for a time, and there was talk about reopening the store, but then her mother started to weaken again. It was shortly after the major earthquake in Godai that her mother passed away. The loss stuck her hard, and she felt as if she was adrift with no control.
She tried her best to do things she thought her mother would want, such as reopening the store. It felt hollow, however, as the place was filled with memories. Business wasn't horrible, but it brought her no joy, and eventually she had to close it back down, leaving the care of the building to the executor of her mother's will. She felt lost again as she walked home that night.
Late one night, in a fit of depression, she applied to receive a Pokemon from one of the Professors. When she got a response, she decided to travel and leave the reminders of her mother behind, trying to find herself as she traveled the world. Guilt and hope warred within her.
Picking a Pokemon was difficult, as she knew next to nothing about the types or features of any of them. Eventually, with a suggestion from the Professor, she chose Bulbasaur. New Pokemon and a train ticket in hand, she decided to start her journey at a location so opposed to the farms and small town of her growing up as to be unimaginable. Miner's Memorial Caves.
