"You ready?" Travis asked.
"Yeah," nodded Titus. It was a quick, quiet, and short answer. He sat on the bench with his back hunched forward, completely drowning himself in various thoughts, openings, strategies, and endgame. He never smiled back, twitched his eyebrows in anger, nor broke out a sweat or a tear from his eye. He even ignored the rumbling crowd that constantly rocked the stadium and the locker room. Instead, he only took a long deep breath. But under the countless scenarios and strategies running around in his head, Titus couldn't hide the fact that he was nervous. And Travis, wearing his signature white sleeveless jacket and blue pants, placed his hands on his friend's shoulders. Unlike the last match, he betted his full faith and hope that Titus was going to win the match.
"You ready as well?" Travis turned to the chosen Pokemon.
"Squaa!" The royal blue penguin rose his chest and arrogantly cried out. Imperator, the Prinplup next to Titus, walked all over the place with his hands clenched. The azure eyes narrowed as his smile showed. Imperator yearned for battle. He hopped and skipped randomly from one end of the locker room to the other. The Prinplup readied himself for war, and he always relished war. When he heard the dim roars of the uncountable audience, it fueled his resolve to go out there and conquer.
"Well, Imperator seems to be pumped up!" chuckled Travis. "You'll do great! You pretty much know how to deal with Martini Ravensdale."
"Of course." Titus nodded back. He rose up from the seat and took out the Holo Caster to open up a certain app. That app showed the faces of Martini Ravensdale and her fallen opponent Luke Windsor. Next to their profile pictures were their chosen Pokémon. "Okay. So, lemme review this..."
"Last match, you said that Martini held all the advantage cause she poisoned Luke's Gliscor and weakened it," spoke Travis. He stood next to Titus, observing his Holo Caster and the combatant opponents. "And then, Luke's Gliscor landed a devastating Aerial Ace."
"I mean, Travis, you weren't wrong in siding with Luke. But as I thought, Martini still won."
"So, Martini whittled Luke down till it brought it down to the spikes and the silk web... as you predicted."
"And let the poison and silk do the work..." Both Titus and Travis nodded. From the battle alone, they seemed to understand the two trainers as if they were close to them.
"So you think Martini's going to send out that Ariados again?"
Titus paused, aimed his eyes at the ceiling, humming a bit. Then, he turned to Travis. His eyebrows narrowed as the Hastur heir was concentrated in thought. "I... I doubt it. But I think it's going to be similar. So yesterday, I had Imperator train the entire day ready to counter whatever strategy she has. I doubt it's going to be a poison one, but I know it has to be equally devastating."
A man with a simple shirt, blue jeans, red hat, and sneakers peeked into the room. He wore black headphones with a microphone attached to it and carried a wooden clipboard with all the important documents clipped to it. "Titus Hastur? Your match is about to begin."
"Right. I'll be there," replied Titus, and the man disappeared from view. Then, he turned to Imperator, who ran towards him. He brimmed happily, tip-toeing to Titus and subtly flapping his arms. The Prinplup was ready to fight for him.
"You and I are going to win together. You'll hit hard, and I'll guide you. We trained for this. We know what to do," promised Titus. The heir to the Hasturs and the penguin prince collided fists together. Then, he took out Imperator's Poke Ball, and the Water-type prince touched the button of the capsule and recalled himself back to the ball. At his trainer's command, he was going to be summoned for battle.
"Good luck Ty." Travis threw out a final wink, and the two departed.
Titus entered into the stadium, greeted by the praising crowd as their champion and gladiator presented himself to the spotlight. The voice thundered, "Here we have Titus Hastur! He hasn't sent out his Pokémon yet, but he looks ready nonetheless!" And the crowd sang in a roar. He took the flight of stairs that led to the podium. From there, Titus saw the entire battlefield as if he was the commander overseeing the armies clashing to battle. From there, his eyes surveyed, and his mind hypothesized. Trees stood up at the flanks, covering the walls of the stadium with their numbers. They could serve as ambush points for anyone. It could serve him well if Imperator needed to hide, or for Martini if she wanted to surprise him.
At the center stood a large pond, which covered half of the stadium. There, Titus broke out a smile and even a sigh of relief. This was his battlefield, and this is where he will control it however he pleases. He took out Imperator's Poke Ball and casually tossed it into the air, waiting for his opponent to arrive.
The scions, one from a noble and chivalrous background and one of splendor and hedonism. Who was going to win?

WAKE UP Bloodshot eyes sparked open, a sharp exhale escaping coffee stained lips as trembling hands reached upwards to claw at the invasive light. Porcelain fingers instead found purchase on a warm face, a familiar one. "Martini, your match is coming up soon!" Piper whispered with slight exasperation, the blonde woman seating herself next to the heiress that had splayed herself atop one of the couches in the combatant's lounges. Clasping the bewildered girl by the face, Piper sighed. "You're a fucking mess you know. Not even coming up to see me after your big win." She sniffed, looping a strand of black hair behind her companion's ear. "I...I was planning on doing that." Martini groggily uttered, wincing slightly as she propped herself onto her elbows. The lighting in the room looked slightly more yellowed, if such a thing were possible. Rubbing her eyes, the exhausted heiress clicked her tongue. "I guess I got carried away prepping Nox for the next round...she's a bitchy little gremlin sometimes you know." Martini weakly smirked, looking downwards to find the Spiritomb retracted into her stone prism. 'I can see that." Piper mused, nudging the spectre's shell with the toe of her boot. A low gurgle was all that responded to the attention. "Playing around with that heirloom your grandma gave you huh?" The blonde murmured, rattling a nail against the obsidian plate balancing on Martini's torso. A wave of confusion flashed across the heiress' face, her jaw tensing at the sight. How had she forgotten? There it idly sat, seemingly weighing nothing as it blotted out a rectangular aperture on her slim form. "Oh honey, you're still drunk aren't you." Piper mused, lightly shaking her head before handing her companion the sunglasses that had slipped away during her stint into unconsciousness. "Yeah...you could say that." Martini whispered, furrowing her brow and slowly hoisting herself off the couch. Wriggling her feet back into her boots, the young woman carefully removed the artefact from her belly and placed it next to Nox's cold prism. "You're taking care of this for now girl...just like we planned." She murmured hoarsely, retracting the gurgling ghoul and her freshly bestowed present back into a gleaming great ball. Something felt off. There was an itch that couldn't be scratched, one that wriggled from the base of her skull to the pit of her gut. It was wholly separate from the heavy lethargy of the alcohol in her system...as if it existed outside of her biology and was forcing its way through the calcium in her bones. "You sure you'll be okay?" Piper nudged, fixing Martini's collar before offering the dazed woman a concerned glance. "There's no shame in withdrawing." Martini flinched. "I'll be fine." The heiress muttered tersely, quickly pecking Piper on the cheek before shoving her trembling hands into her coat pockets. "I was told my next opponent is some kid. No way I'm backing out of that." She snorted, a weak smirk flashing across her face as she slowly stumbled out of the lounge. In the shade of her sunglasses, Martini was certain the lights of the room brightened the moment she turned her away from Piper. But it was too late to turn back, the melodious chants of the crowd were already drawing her inwards. "Coming off of her bloody victory in round one, Martini Ravensdale returns! The voice-over trumpeted, quickly followed by the droning bellows of the stadium horns. Strangers hooted and hollered, the aroma of a thousand bodies wafting into the lukewarm air like a tangy perfume. Not even bothering to acknowledge the captive audience this time, the alabaster skinned woman sauntered forward to find a landscape much different from the one she'd previously encountered. Greenery and water, splashes of colour that were sorely lacking from her initial fight. Alas, such a scene was quickly dashed from her gaze the moment the scrawny silhouette entered her field of vision. "Holy shit, it really is a kid." Martini grumbled, nose wrinkling as she felt a cocktail of confusion and disgust curdle within her mind. Such distaste was only neutered when she saw the young trainer's accompanying Pokémon, a Prinplup, and that's when such a feeling quickly turned to exasperation. The boy had the upper hand on this field. Shaking her head of the distraction, the heiress sucked in a deep breath and procured the gleaming great ball from her person. There was no point trading pleasantries or waste time on ceremony. Whatever leftover energy she possessed was solely fueling the shameless satisfaction in humiliating a teenage boy...the perfect recipient to vent the gnawing itch in the back of her mind. "Let's play a little hide and seek." Martini whispered into the mechanical orb, relinquishing Nox from her bonds and sending the gurgling ghoul directly into the shadows of the surrounding foliage. There was little point revealing anything this early, especially when she still needed to test the field. "And there we have it folks! Both combatants have sent out their Pokémon!
Titus Hastur and his Prinplup have center stage on this field whereas Martini Ravensdale has opted for an usual start hiding her chosen Pokémon in the surrounding field!
IT'S NORTH VERSUS SOUTH!
LET THE ROUND BEGIN!"

When Nox graced himself to the battlefield, Titus and Imperator stared right at Martini's Pokemon: a mass purple swirl. But that was only it. A mass purple swirl. Titus let out a quiet 'hmm' as he mentally drowned out the crowd. "A Ghost-type? I think it could be? What do Ghost-types do..." Titus muttered silently to himself. "Sleep... Curse... Those kinds of things." His eyes narrowed on the black haze before the 'haze' disappeared into the woods. "Poison-type? Okay... poison status effects... Toxic attack... I can deal with that..." mused Titus, but he couldn't put a finger on it. The match has not started, and already the two scions declared war in a battle of wits. It was like a dangerous chess game, and Martini purposely hid all of her pieces from Titus' eyes. Even worse, she could have a dagger in her back in this figurative chess game and stab Titus and Imperator where they least expect it. But, eventually all moves have to be played, and all plans must be revealed. Titus knew the perfect opening. The bell rang, and Titus was the first to advance. "To the water!" ordered Titus with a snap of his fingers. He pointed his hand to the lake, and the Prinplup ran for the blue mass in front of him. He closed his arms, bringing it close to his body and perfectly dived into the pond like an athletic swimmer. The blue hue matched the shimmering color of the lake. Imperator seemed to completely blend in with the arena pond, but everyone could see the distorted shadow swimming around. His speed increased too. This was his domain. If everyone saw the Prinplup's face, he was smiling, almost arrogantly even. Imperator weaved through the pond in a zigzag motion, all while closing in on the location of where Martini's Poke Ball discharged for the first attack. Titus and Imperator's plan synched together. They were going to flush out Martini's Pokemon. "Bombard it!" The royal penguin narrowed his eyes when hearing Titus' command. He dashed at an angle against that certain location until he was several meters away. Then, he turned to the sides, leaped into the air at an arch and threw a series of orbs in the air. The Hidden Power attack, filled with little twinkling stars as if they were tiny universes, homed in at the location as if they were clusters of missiles. To Titus and Imperator, their first big attack was simply a greeting of their difficult battle. "Retreat!" ordered Titus, and Imperator retreated back into the pond without question or delay. He wasn't going to stick around any longer and invite himself to a nasty 'discovered attack' set up by Martini. When the cosmic orbs impact the ground, Titus will know the answer. "Martini... black to move..." muttered Titus. ______________________________________________________________________________ Titus Hastur sends out Imperator (Titus' Prinplup). Locks of obsidian hair whipped across Martini's face the moment a stiff gust of wind blew through the arena, seemingly summoned from the dense cry of the stadium's horn. The crowd roared and the trumpets blared and the heiress once more found herself in the epicentre of a place she'd much rather reject. None of this would outwardly serve her, nothing but her ego and pride which was now on show for all who could see. Alas, something writhed inside her, something that welcomed the ceremonial violence.
Humiliating a kid would sate it, more or less.
Wrinkling her nose, the heiress leered at her opponent as he sent his companion into the basin, fully taking advantage of the field's watery boon. It was going to be an issue, one that would no doubt hurt Nox in the long run if she didn't play to the gurgling ghoul's strength.
The Prinplup's star speckled orbs silently careened into the mass of darkened shrubbery, their trajectory followed by soft ribbons of light. With a distinctive flash of colour, each orb flared upon impact on the clustered shrubs and trees.
However, Nox's darkness did not wane. Her shadow remained true even under the penguin's assault.
Interesting.
Clearing her throat, Martini slowly rose a manicured hand. "Nox, darling, use shadow sneak before it can hit the water." She uttered, frosty blue eyes following the slick form of her opponent's Pokémon.
E̡̨͖̫̹̪̗̪Ę̤͎͖̱̺͘É̗̫̹͔̫̜e̵̬̪̤̟̰̘̲͠ͅe̢̢͏͔ų͉̫͍͚͡u̵͕̜̲̠̯̻͖̟̲Ú̴̙U̷̩̞͙̮̭̭͘͠U͙̟͜u̴̯͓̦̫̟͔ų͙̮r̵͉̠̕r̟͍̫̺͙̻̪g̫͍̝g̶̦̭͉̼̠̤̬̥̕̕h̘̪̯͖̫̦̝̰̦͟͠h̷͇̩͉̟̙͟ͅH̡͓̲̯̟̼̝̫͉̀͝H̦̱̱̹͢H̴̯!
A haunting groan reverberated within the shrubbery, the chorus of lipless mouths playfully wailing as the darkness under the trees began to darken and solidify.
Like a nest of thrashing snakes, the liquified shadows sprung to life and violently tore across the ground towards their intended target. A tapestry of obsidian threads was painted across the grassy field, all spiralling into the lone penguin that retreated into its watery domain.
Not even waiting to witness the shadows collapse on the Prinplup, the heiress found the glint of Nox's emerald eyes within the shrubbery and nodded. "If it attacks you again, spite it." She commanded icily, turning her attention back to the child on the other end.
"Come on little boy, play with mama." Martini sniffed, painted lips curling into a satisfied grin.

The twisted shadows from the Shadow Sneak attack closed in on Imperator. The moment his face touched the pond, the Ghost-type attack tendrils impacted at the right side of the chest, and Imperator felt something stab at it. But before he could get a look, he was already deep in the azure pond, and Nox's first strike retreated back to the bush. But whatever was that Imperator brushed the pain off and continued circling in his domain. The arrogant Imperator smirked it off as if the Shadow Sneak attack was nothing but an inconvenience. But after the first few opening moves, everything seemed clear to Titus. Whatever unknown doubt he harbored, it seemed to evaporate to nothing. The hidden chess pieces Martini tried to hide now revealed itself, thanks to the first few moves. "Right... Shadow Sneak... that's definitely a Ghost-type." Titus mused to himself. Something seemed a bit off, which Titus clearly caught as he rested his hand on his hips. If the Hidden Power attack hit the opponent, Nox... whatever that Pokemon is... would have run off from the shrubs. However, Nox didn't. Titus reduced his deduction to two theories: either Nox deflected that Hidden Power attack or he was a Dark-type Pokemon. A Dark-type Pokemon wouldn't be affected by a Psychic-type attack. Why panic if one was immune? He pieced these two important information together, a Ghost-type attack and a Dark-type immunity. He figured out Nox's Pokemon type. More importantly, he deduced who Nox really is. Titus found himself smiling, almost proud even for figuring all it out. If the battle was a lot more casual, he would have even applauded the Ravensdale heiress for an unusual opening move. "You're tough," commented Titus. But it wasn't a curse. Rather, it was a way of thanking Martini for not making it easy. Imperator circled towards Titus, raising his hand above the waterline. Titus did the same. The two knew what they were going to do. "Ready!" ordered Titus. The Water-type prince turned his full body towards the shrubbery, ready to score another hit on the hidden Spiritomb. The Prinplup's azure eyes narrowed and his speed increased to close in on his prey. Imperator didn't know who he was facing, but he feared nothing. He caught a glimpse of Titus casually smiling and looking confident; He held no doubt that his best friend figured out what to do. Halfway in, Imperator suddenly veered to the left and turned once again in a circle to close in on Nox, the Forbidden Pokemon. "Bubble!" ordered Titus. Like before, Imperator leaped at an angle and spat out a spray of tiny blue spheres at the opponent. The Prinplup didn't stay long in the air. Like before, he dived down to the water to retreat to the center once again. Titus really wanted to go full-on bombastic against Martini's Pokemon, but as long as Nox bunkered down there, Imperator cannot approach it. However, as long as he held the center, Nox cannot do anything. To Titus, the battle continues to play out like chess: whoever holds the center holds the advantage. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Nox uses Shadow Sneak to chase the retreating Imperator. Over the roar of the crowds, Martini was certain her juvenile opponent said something to her. Alas, any chance to monologue, deride or compliment were lost in the sea of chatter and horns. With little more than a stiff shrug of her shoulders, the heiress returned her attention to the field and clicked her tongue at the boy's little game of chicken.
He was trying to draw Nox out. He was a kid egging on trouble.
With her blue eyes hidden behind the dense sunglasses, the young woman watched on as the shadowy bushes were bombarded by another stream of orbs. This time they were bubbles, propelled from the beak of a creature that dipped and dove out of the water like an obnoxious acrobat. Not entirely concerned by the onslaught, Martini watched as the watery globes violently splashed and drenched her gurgling ghoul.
H̘̲̬͈͇Ee̞e͉͈u̫̫u̳͎̻̳̟̲̘͘U̵͇͓̖͎̳͚U̖̝͕̜̤̱̻u̩r̮̠̫̣̩g̴̳̖̞̰h̶͖̞ͅh̺̝̯̲͍̙̞
The shifting spiral of Nox's transient form flickered like a small storm, the glint of her many eyes flashing wildly amidst the leaves. She was enjoying this.
Sighing, the porcelain skinned woman pinched the bridge of her nose and wearily matched her gaze to Nox's many. "Fine, fine." Martini uttered hoarsely, flicking her hand forward and fluttering her fingers. "Guess the kid doesn't know shadows can exist underwater." She shrugged, surprised at how late the rather obvious revelation came to her.
The lingering taste of vodka reminded her exactly why.
Slowly exhaling, Martini turned to one of the nearby cameramen and offered him a little wave and a curtsy towards the crowd. Make a show of things. As she basked in the accompanying applause, the heiress stretched out a hand and squarely aimed a finger at the pond her opponent so desperately clung to.
"Come on out, darling" She said aloud, never loosening her leer on the central pond.
E͏͔̗́ͅŔ̥̙̝̪̭Ģ̻̳͢H̶͏̫̺̯͙ ̛̗̼͖̗̬́̕É̸҉͖͎͚͉̪ͅR̢̞̙̰̟̜G͍͙̩͇̥͕̞H̰͓̙ ͘҉̷͕͍͉̪̠͕E͉͚͔̼͚͉̗̭͞͝͞R̨̞͔̯̥̞̯̜̹͘͠G̫̯͍̲͈̠͟͡H̬͚͓͚͜͡ ̬̻̺̤̰͘
A chorus of chittering laughter overtook the small arena, mixing and melding into one another like a ghastly choir. The sound was enough to cause a slight shiver to dance down Martini's spine and briefly neuter the cheering crowd.
"Here we have it folks, looks like Aurmouth's darling is showing her hand" The announcer swiftly chirped, the crackle of his microphone splitting the air.
Even with her attention on her opponent, Martini could already see the encroaching shadow blot out her peripheral vision. Tongues of darkness whipped against the dewy grass as the Spiritomb emerged from its leafy veil. Spilling forward like oil, black tendrils lifted and carried the cackling spectre into view of everyone present. A jagged lipless mouth tore into a hungry grin, all colour and light draining from the immediate space around it.
This was a taste of the artefact, this was its boon. To become a void, a pure herald of...the dark. The heiress felt a momentary fatigue take her as she gazed upon the ghoul's more tangible darkness, a familiar exhaustion settling on her brow.
With a gyre of shadows encircling its prism, the Spiritomb's galaxy of eyes glared into the water. She was a patient totem waiting for her offering.
"Come out come out." Martini whispered, offering the audience one more coy smile. "Nox, darling, use Pursuit the moment the penguin shows itself.
Imperator uses Bubble, attack hits Martini flirts with the audience Nox is holding a pursuit.

"That Spiritomb showed himself!" exclaimed Titus, and he was right on the money. The Forbidden Pokemon revealed himself to Titus, Imperator, and the entire crowd. The jagged green void that made up his eyes and mouth began to silently laugh and mock the Hastur heir and his Pokemon. The young boy eyed towards Martini. Did she knew by revealing herself, they were already in danger? Or Martini prepared the next strategy to counter Titus' next move? To both of those questions, Titus failed to answer.
But, his first strategy of drawing out the Spiritomb paid off. Now, Titus saw various ways Imperator could triumph over Nox. The crowd's roar and cheers grew to a crescendo. If this battle was a chess game, then the opening was over. Both were already beyond 'theories' on how to beat each other. The trainers entered the middle game. There, it was up to the skill of the Pokemon. Titus' next plan was simple: bombard Nox or draw him into the pond.
Imperator began to zigzag erratically and chaotically, but the Water-type prince closed in on his opponent nonetheless.
Then, Titus called out a different order. "To the middle!" Even underwater, Imperator heard but frowned his trainer's commands. He was within a few meters to the Spiritomb; Imperator could drench him if he wanted to. However, the command was different. The Prinplup couldn't figure out if Titus was scared or if he had another brilliant plan going. Nonetheless, he obeyed his trainer's command. As quickly as he zigzagged his way to Nox, he quickly torpedoed away from Nox to the middle of the pond in a straight line.
In case, he made sure that his wings glowed dimly, making it reflective like steel. Neither Titus, Martini, nor the crowd saw what the Prinplup was doing, but the commentators began to make note of Imperator's Steel Wing attack. He descended to the floor of the pond and quickly rose up, breaking through the waves and jumping up in the air. His beak aimed at Nox, and his wings radiated with energy. At the center of the pond, the Water-type Pokemon revealed himself. Imperator heard his trainer triumphantly call out "Brine!" and unleashed a full deluge at the Spiritomb.
