General Appearance:
Growing up Gale has, for the most part, always had what was considered to be proper posture while standing, slouching only when depressed or deeply lost in thought. Though if given the chance, instead of standing on his own, he might lean against a wall or a tree. Sitting, however, is a different story, leaning back into a chair or slumping over a desk/table are his typical go to. Having spent the last couple of years indoors, Gale hasn’t had much of a chance to bask in the sun so his skin is fairly light. This causes the scar on his hand to be a shade darker that the rest of his body. The couple of years he spent inside working at the library lifting large piles of books gave Gale enough physical labor to have enough muscle to give him an average build for a man his size. At first glance, if not nose deep into a book, Gale seems to be approachable, thanks to the soft small smile he carries on his lips. He tends to generally accept any passersby who are willing to chat, that is if he’s not reading. When reading, Gale is as approachable as a mother Ursaring protecting her cubs.

Hair Color & Style: Gale is glad to match his father’s dark brown hair, which tends to be often mistaken for a black hue. During the summer the brown is more prevalent than during the winter where the hair seems to darken towards a black, as if the light that’s there during the summer is absorbed by the cold winter days. Situated above his right eyebrow, a stubborn strand of hair going against the flow of its peers and never quite goes where he wants it go is what he inherited from his mother, which he wishes he could have done without. He typically styles his hair, due to the frustration that is his cowlick, as a variation on the undercut, blending the length of the hair on top with the hair on the sides much smoother than what is normally entailed. While not quite as kempt as someone with the funds to head to a parlor every week, it’s maintained enough to the point of discerning that he at least combs it every day. He either grooms his hair to the sides, preferably parting the hair where his good friend, the unyielding tuft, is located, or comb it back as commonly seen with this style, causing the ornery partner to fall forward. He’s often mistaken to be much younger than he actually is, not that he gives to much thought about it, thanks to his clean shaven face. Eyes: Gale’s roundish-almond shaped emerald eyes tend to dart around the room with a cold gaze collecting as much information as possible in order to assess the situation he may or may not be getting himself into. He’s often been told that if it wasn’t for this feature he would have the same glistening eyes as his mother. It’s been said that the eyes are often a window into the soul, for Gale this holds true often showing whatever emotion is currently enveloping him. His thick soft angled eyebrows matched the color of his hair, and helped the eyes better express the emotion they’re portraying; furrowing when disgruntled or even rising when intrigued. On his right eyebrow he has a small scar, recieved when he was a child. | Clothing/Accessories: Whether hot or cold, rain or shine, Gale always carries a black pair of headphones with sky blue ear pads and headband pad. If not in use, they normally hang around his neck waiting to be used. Having been in his position for a couple years now, the headphones show their age with scuff marks and tangles in the cord. Aside from the headphones, since Gale’s decided to travel he carries around a shoulder backpack, with enough space to carry all of his essentials and anything he might find along his way. Three pokeballs would clip to the strap of the bag that comes across his chest and under his left arm. The other three would clip onto his belt on his right side. Warm weather:Gale is a firm believer of “You can always put more clothing on, but you can only take off so much.” Therefore, during the warmer seasons he tries to wear as little as possible, sticking with a t-shirt, typically a light gray shirt with a logo on one side of a dark gray diamond cut into 4 smaller diamonds with the right diamond missing. Even though he has this belief as wearing as little as possible, he insists on wearing pants, whether they’re jeans or light colored cargo pants that can be made into shorts if need to. Should the weather turn fowl and begin to rain or if it is colder than normal, around his waist is a light jacket, black with a sky blue sleeves and inner hood lining, tied together at the sleeves. In order to protect his feet from the blistering pavement in cities or from the wilderness he wears a pair a black sneakers. Cold weather: When the weather begins to wane and the days are shorter, our lovable librarian keeps to his warm weather attire. Except the jacket around his waist is thicker, more of akin to a winter coat, and he wears a sleeveless light jacket, with a very similar design to the one he wears around his waist during the summer. He swaps out his sneakers for a pair of black slip resistant boots. He’s managed to find a “sleeve” for his head phones that go onto each ear so that they act as earmuffs. |

Growing up Gale has always been very observant, not that he wanted to be, noticing the little things people would miss. He is able to use these observations to find the most logical explanation for the situation and calculate accordingly, causing him to come off as being distant. Even though many see his hyper-perception as a gift, Gale sees it as a curse since it is what caused him much grief in his previous relationship. The hyper-perception wasn’t all bad though, often helping him find items he, but typically other people, would misplace. It’s even gotten him out of what most would consider a dangerous situation. However this gift comes at a cost. Primarily being his memory, there is no way a brain can hold all the information being thrown at him so his brain does occasional memory dumps. Being able to help other gives Gale a feeling of satisfaction, especially if the people he’s helping is family. He doesn’t know why he enjoys helping people, though he suspects that it’s because he hopes that by solving their problems he might just be solving his own in some way. He would often go out of his way to help someone if they truly needed his help. However he does has limits, as he does not like being taken advantage of. When his sister was born he became a very doting brother, helping his parents with whatever was needed in order to help the child. Ever since he was a child, Gale’s been told to assess each situation with care and to use the knowledge given to you to develop a solution to anything he might not understand. This caused him to become a very logical person, believing that everything that happens is created from circumstance. This logical way of thinking has made him question his parent’s religious belief. Being so logical tends to make him come off as cold or distant, even though he’s just lost in thought. Who determines what is right or wrong? Each person has their own opinion of who is right in a given situation. Thus, Gale believes that there are only a few things that can be considered a wrong thing to do. Everything else can be justified. He tries his best to follow Godain law, however if they effect the course to his goal, depending on the goal, he might forgo following them. When it comes down to it the end always justifies the means. Gale is the definition of a bookworm, keeping his nose deep into a book as often as he can. Even though he will read any type of book, he prefers to read science fiction. Working at the library gave him access to many different subjects, and should he not know the answer to something, he knows where he can go to find it. He does enjoy being disturbed when reading, often getting snippy and irritable, especially if he’s at the climax of a book. Reading provides an easy accessible means for escape. Getting lost in a fictional world and temporarily forgetting about your own problems grants him a moment of solace from whatever is ailing him. While reading he’s typically listening to music, trying to better escape from one world and enter the world he’s reading. Gale has always had a thing for music, not so much playing as to listening. He enjoys listening to Electronica, especially songs heavy on the bass. Music to Gale is a means for inspiration or, like reading, an escape. The thing he tries to escape from are his feelings of insecurity. He tends to over analyze things if there is an issue in his life, either by making assumptions and arriving to conclusions, and placing the blame all upon himself. Gale’s sense of humor can be defined in one word: Sarcasm. He enjoys being sarcastic, though he knows when and where to use it. However he sometimes can go a little overboard with the sarcasm, and it can be perceived as being mean. His sarcasm has gotten him into more trouble than he would like to admit, typically with strangers. Due to his sarcasm Gale grew up without many friends, often relying on family, typically his cousins, for his social interaction. Secretly, Gale wants to be a Hero, like the heroes he reads about in his books. He's spends most of his time, when not reading, daydreaming about rescuing people. He loves to come up with scenarios where him and his pokemon are out either saving people or beating the bad guy, whoever they might be. He is at his happiest when he has these thoughts. He just doesn't have the confidence in himself in order to act on it, saying that these dreams are unrealistic, but this does not stop him from fantasizing. Many of his dreams come from whatever music he might be listening at the time. If the song is up beat he might be in a battle, if the song is slow, he might be mourning the loss of a friend in battle. Unable to hide his feelings from the world, Gale’s face shows his emotions as clear as day. For Gale this can be a problem at times, making it hard for Gale to lie as his nervousness will show. This often leads him to resort the sarcasm as a means of escape or hide his true feelings. He doesn’t like to talk about himself that often, preferring to hear about the problems of others instead of stating his own. Since having to talk about his problems would have to bring about feelings he would rather just ignore, often bottling up any negative feelings he might have. He's been told that suppressing these emotions will only bring about the worst in him. Having been betrayed before has caused him to harbor a mistrust of people, family and friends alike. However recently he's being trying to break this habit of mistrust, confiding more with his family, specifically with his sister. |

⊶History⊷
Gale was born in the city of Cascadia, and was the first child of Samuel and Lyssa Heartford. Sam Heartford was a journalist for the Cascadia Gazette, a small time newspaper focusing on small events happening in the city. His mother, Lyssa, was a jazz musician and played alto saxophone in local bars with her band: Breckerville. They lived in a small one bedroom apartment when he was born. During the day Gale spent time with his mother. He loved to listen to her practice, the sound of the horn soothing him to sleep. In the evening was the time he spent with his father, while his mother was out performing. Once Gale was able to speak he enjoyed the time with his father more, loving the stories Sam would create to entertain him. To most Gale could be considered a strange child, staring at things for a while without uttering a sound. His parents, fearing some sort of mental illness, got the child tested, going to two psychiatrists just to confirm the diagnostics. According to the psychiatrists Gale had something know as Hyper Sensory Perception. They explained that a person's brain, when dealing with the senses, is similar to a filter, sifting through the information and discarding the information the brain deems worthless. The reason Gale was spending so much time observing things is because his brain deems that all of the information is useful, so he notices small things that people would typically disregard. The parents were told that the child should be able to process the information quickly, to the point where it'd be just as fast as a normal person, if not quicker. As a child, Gale knew he wass different that the other kids. This idea was reinforced by the other children who would bully him because of his staring habits. He didn't enjoy staring, nor was he a fan of what the amount of information being pumped into his head. He would suffer from many headaches and the other children were not a fan of his. They saw his gift as annoying, since he was able to determine what the child was trying to keep a secret just by looking at them. This didn't bother him that much, since his parents praised his gift.Since the children would avoid him, he took up reading. He loved the stories his father would tell him, but he loved the stories he found in his books even more. Gale doesn't remember much from his early childhood. It seems that the price of a quicker processor was an occasional memory dump. However, the events he does remember are very precious to him, especially those of his mother. By the age of seven Gale began to keep a journal, describing the day in as much detail as possible. This was the one guaranteed way, at least he believed so at the time, to best preserve his memories. Unfortunately there are still gaps in the journals, days with little detail, perhaps those are days that he just does not want to remember. When Gale reached the age of twelve his parents decided, more like accidentally decided, to have a child. Nine months later Lynnalin Heartford was born. She seemed to have brought an air of change that Gale was not use to. Having a baby around confused him since the child's behavior seemed so...erratic. By no means did he not enjoy having a sister, it's just he was never a brother before, so he had no idea what to do. Unfortunately for Gale he'd never know what it would be like to be a brother. Gale loved to listening to Lyssa play. On the weekends when his mother would leave for work and play with the band, Gale would come with. The night that Gale still remembers vividly to this day happened a couple weeks after his thirteenth birthday. It was a wet rainy night and Lyssa and Gale were on their way home from the bar Lyssa was currently contracted to. They only lived a couple blocks away so they would make their way home on foot. However on this night the parent and child would not reach their home. After about one or two blocks, the only thing Gale remembers is the flash of the headlights of a car, his mother screaming and then waking up in a hospital bed. How does someone explain to a child that they'll never be able to see their mother again? As far as Gale is concerned, it didn't matter how it was said, in his head he blamed himself. If only he had noticed the erratic behavior sooner. If only he had been the one to react quicker. If only he still had his mom. That was the day that Gale's perfect world shattered. This was the day that Gale learned to hate himself and his "curse." What good is being hyper perceptive if it can't help you, is the thought that ran through his head over and over for the next couple days. Around this time Gale began to seclude himself more into his books, using headphones to blast music to shut himself out from the world. This is where his fondness for science fiction arrived. He wish he could be like the heroes from his books, coming up with discoveries that could help change the situation he was currently in. The events that followed the accident just seemed to be a blur for him. From the court hearing to the funeral its all seemed to just blur into a mess of memories. The drunk driver was caught and was found guilty for second degree manslaughter. Gale felt glad that the man was apprehended, however, that feeling did not help close the hole in his heart. He didn't have the time to be bogged down by his feelings. Unfortunately the amount of time the siblings had to bond with their father was now limited thanks to the amount of overtime he pulled at work in order to fill in for the financial gap. Even though his grandparents helped in anyway they could, Sam did not want to burden them more than he had to, leaving Gale to take care of most of the housework, as well as Lynn. Sam would keep every Sunday free, making the day a rest day for the entire family, using the time to be a better father. It's always easier to remember the worst days in your life, but Gale is glad that he still has the memory of his sister's first day at school. He took the day off from his own schooling in order to set up a surprise party for her when she returned. He even managed to get his father to take the day off to do the driving and help with the preparations. Having Sam pick up Lynn made her so happy and it radiated those feelings to everyone else. The party itself only consisted of family members, but having everyone together just made Lynn happier. Seeing his little princess so happy made Sam take another day off on the weekends to in order to spend more time with his family. Gale loved seeing his sister so happy, plus having his father around more often lessened his burden as well. By this time, Gale's brain no longer takes a long a while to process what it's being fed. Nor does he need to stare in order to gather all the information, gathering the same amount in a glance. However this is where his memory begins to fade quicker, forgetting a large portion of his childhood. After graduating from Secondary School, Gale spent two years helping his father, but didn't really pursue the career any further than that. He spent most of his time at home, tending to the needs of the family. However, about a month or two after his twentieth birthday Gale got a job at the local library. Even though he loved his family, he was still trying to find his own way to make a living. The Library gave him this opportunity. While he was at the library he met Gwen. She was another librarian working at the library. At first he didn't think much of her, she was just a co-worker, but as time went on and he got to know her he began to fall for her. He'd eventually ask her out to dinner and shortly after they became a couple. Gale has had girlfriends in the past, but none have made him feel as happy as she did. She just had this air about her that gave him goosebumps, the good kind. She might be rough around the edges but to Gale she was a diamond in the rough. The relationship lasted for about three years, the last year however was rough on Gale. His insecurities, fueled by the scourge that is his gift, got the better of him, which showed in the relationship. Then when everything seemed to be getting better, it happened...again. Gale, not wanting to be reminded of what he had lost, quit his job at the library and left for Serenity Lake in order to clear his mind. |
