Trainer Profile
Character Name: Beval Wyndham
Nickname: Bev, Mr. Head-in-clouds (By his friends)
Gender: Male
Birthday: 22nd May 175 AG
Western Zodiac: Jeunswill the Twins, Togepi and Cleffa
Eastern Zodiac: Munchlax
Age: 26
Trainer Class: Researcher
{Physical Description}Height: 189 cm, 6' 2"
Weight: 72 kg, 159 lbs.
Hair Color & Style: Beval has very shiny, blonde hair. He likes to keep it shorter, usually 3-4 cm, but occasionally he lets it grow a little longer, to the 10 cm mark. Due to not wanting to stand out very much, he likes keeping the nest on his head bland. He doesn't do much with his hair - no accessories, no dyes, nothing. This is mostly due to his non-existent desire of standing out. He does, however, brush it daily, which makes it straight, groomed and classy-looking. After all, he is a hygiene fanatic, so leaving hairs standing out left and right would be quite unacceptable.
Eyes: Beval's most notable facial features are his eyes. They're like shining emeralds, noticeable even from afar. They almost have a mesmerizing effect, not really expressing any emotion, but having a calming, solemn look. Beval's usual gaze is one of a distant person, not showing any spark of warm emotion. This is only empowered by his eyes being bigger than usual and round - making them look like flat discs. When he's happy or sad, however, the eyes can convey these emotions very well, making even the most cold-hearted spectator feel a sliver of empathy. His blonde eyebrows, thin and a little higher above the eyes than usual, mostly blend into his pale face, drawing the attention to the eyes even more.
Clothing/Accessories: Beval, now that he's resorted to travelling, usually wears a grey shirt with a black blazer and a white tie, not necessarily the most comfortable or practical wardrobe, but much more suitable than what he used to wear at uni. His legs are covered by a pair of black trousers, held up by an identically colored belt. His feet are protected by a pair of grey, thin, cotton socks which are covered by black chelseas. When it's too warm for this kind of attire, he changes his look up a little. He switched the shirt and blazer for a white polo-shirt. The tie is gotten rid of. His trousers get replaced by white shorts. The socks go away completely and the chelseas get replaced by white sandals. On top of that, he puts on sleek sunglasses to protect his eyes. On the contrary, in more cold conditions he puts on warmer clothes. His torso is warmed by a grey pullover on top of which a peanut brown jacket lies. The trousers get replaced by thicker ones and change to beige. Identically colored leather longwings have white, thick woolen socks in them. His hands get warmed by syrup brown leather gloves and on the top of his head resides a black watch cap. He also uses contact lenses to fix his near-sightedness. On his back is a white backpack where he keeps his necessities. He usually also carries a black suitcase with him for business and research.
General Appearance: Beval is a frail looking man. Due to him being more into books than dumbbells, he doesn't really have a good physique or any muscle mass to write home about. This is also seen on his pale skin, that looks like it has yet to see the light of day. His porcelain skin is even further amplified by Beval caring about hygiene a tad bit too much. It would make him look very vulnerable and weak if it weren't for his elegant and upright posture. His way of talking also gives off a certain aura of nobility, with his gestures being very rapid and controlled and his face being stoic and serious most of the time. It isn't always this monotone, however. It possesses a certain ice-queen quality to it, but his thin lips and rosy cheeks are beautiful when smiling. His smaller nose and ears also add a certain cuteness to his looks. This especially contrasts with his rigid, diamond-shaped face. His cheeks create steep diagonal lines that start to bend on the mandible, ending in a relatively round chin. Another prominent facial feature of his are his cheek bones - whenever he opens his mouth wide they stick out, the skin stretching tight over them, leaving a scary, The Scream-esque expression.

Hometown: Sangproctor City, West Godai
{Personality}Personality: Curious by nature, it's as if Beval was born to uncover the mysteries of the world. There is nothing in the realms of science that he isn't interested in. It was his Meuist upbringing that has set him on this way, and even though he has forsaken his belief, the passion for knowledge has not left him. Though what has piqued his interest most is the mystical science of Pokémon. Having pursued a college degree in Pokémon Research, his dedication to solve the puzzles these enigmatic creatures hold is seemingly endless. He is and has always been the type to hit the books voluntarily at every possible occasion, so his academic life was a breeze.
Not that he would let himself get distracted by pointless obstacles. Once a destination is set, one must put out as much effort and skill until it is reached. No matter how many hurdles there are to overcome, how many problems there are to decimate, it is of uttermost importance to keep one's focus. The shorter it takes, the better, because there is only limited time in life. Because in his mind, only his goals exists and he will do anything to achieve them. And that is not an understatement - it is not uncommon for other people's emotions to get pushed aside for the sake of progress.
However, it is not his intent to hurt people, he just views it as a necessary evil. There is no malevolent ulterior motive about his actions, just his ambitiousness and crave for progress. If it is not necessary for other people to suffer, he will try to pursue the peaceful way. Because, unlike many people who know him might think, he quite enjoys the company of others. Talking is a way to share and exchange information and wisdom, after all. Be it any topic, he has no problems with answering questions and presenting them himself. Even though his inquiries can come off as alien to others.
That is not his only problem with socializing. While he might have the will and desire to talk, his general stiffness and social awkwardness make it hard to strike up a conversation. Oftentimes treated as a wallflower at social events, he usually finds himself being isolated from the rest of the attendees. It doesn't help his case that he is not the type to seek out and initiate a debate with random strangers. Additionally, his stoic expression and rapid movements might scare off even the most sociable of people. He doesn't mind much though, because every second left alone is a second spent wondering about something intriguing.
And as everyone knows, even the things that seem insignificant might prove to be the key to much bigger ideas. That is why he never hesitates to experiment with the most banal thoughts. While trial & error might not be the most effective or elegant scientific method, it can surely provide results. This is the reason why Beval never discourages people from trying something or doing something in a different way. One can never know what the right path to success and advancement might be.
Those are his main motivators. He has centered his whole life around discovering something new, uncovering uncharted waters and examining the unknown. This is his life purpose, since he believes that there is no innate meaning to existing, but each person sets it for themselves. With this mindset he has dispelled any existential crisis throughout both growing up and adulthood. Simultaneously, this has also been his favourite reasoning for explaining why the feelings of other people are less valuable to him than his own pursuits. He cannot envision any advantage or logical reason for not prioritizing his personal wants over strangers or even friends, especially after the life he has experienced.
At the core, Beval is a selfish person. While he certainly has experienced happiness due to having close family or friends nearby, the pleasure of fulfilling his own wishes has almost always proven to be greater. He is fully aware of this trait, but he wholeheartedly accepts it. After all, it does not bother him in any way. This is part of the reason he doesn't have many friends, because if one finds out, it usually results in the both of them parting ways. It is also possible to see a reflection of this in his way of treating Pokémon. Viewing them more like tools than living beings, he studies them because he wants to use their full potential to his own advantage.
Apropos full potential - Bev truly shines when he is busy with his hobbies. One can see his capabilities when he’s working on another research project, for example. While this might not sound like your typical everyday relaxation activity, for him it’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to examine, study, observe and experiment with something other than his job - Pokémon. Literally writing essays that will never see the light of day just to pass the time, he believes that by studying different subjects, he can both broaden his horizons and improve his work performance. That is also the reason why he is a very avid bookworm. Mainly focusing on factual literature, he attempts to learn from already established studies. But this doesn’t mean he hates fiction, quite the contrary. While it may seem like he’s a typical scientist you see in movies, he has an acquired taste for reading witty, light-hearted novels. He also enjoys watching comedical films and plays. Generally, this has developed into him enjoying clever jokes and witty humour, even puns and word-plays others would label as cringey. And while he is neither interested nor good in any physical sport, he knows how to appreciate a good game of chess.
Concerning food, he isn’t exactly picky, eating almost everything that he gets served and that is edible. But his favourite food, hands down, would need to be Ratatouille. We are talking about food with real nutritional value here, however. Concerning sweets, he loves almost everything, considering he has a sweet tooth. Be it anything: cakes, candies, sodas, honey, fruit ... - everything sweet is tasty and delicious for Bev. This doesn’t mean that he eats them a lot, because he knows the health risks associated with the overconsumption of sugar. That’s also why he prefers naturally grown and produced sweets rather than artificially made delicatesses.
However, taste isn’t the only sense that has a favourite. His eyes, for example, appreciate looking at the colour green. While this might seem contradictory considering his everyday attire and the colours of the furniture in his flat, he likes surrounding himself with plants for this reason as well. He just prefers to be in an area with neutral colours as to not distract himself. But whenever he wants to relax or just daydream, he likes looking at meadows, forests, etc. That is also the reason why he likes landscape paintings.
After the eyes come the ears. While they cannot see colours, they can certainly hear and appreciate music. And Bev’s ears certainly have music genres they vastly prefer over the others. Unsurprisingly to anybody, classical music is very much appreciated. He himself can play the violin, flute and saxophone, albeit all at a basic level. He practices sometimes, but he doesn’t spend too much time on it, resulting in his skills to have rusted from back when he was active. But what many don’t know is that he also loves jazz music. There aren’t many times where he could have a reason to share, after all.
There are lots of other things he likes as well. As mentioned previously, talking about anything is an enriching experience. But he can’t spend time with others forever, and he is fully aware of that. His hobbies start to flourish during his alone time and then he starts to fully relax and blow off steam. He also not only likes taking care of Pokémon, but normal plants as well. If one were to look into his flat in Sangproctor, multiple violets and cacti would be instantly noticed. He himself doesn’t know why he enjoys taking care of them so much, if it is to have more guinea pigs or to see living beings flourish, he can’t tell, maybe it’s a mix of both.
However, he isn’t very keen on taking care of everything and everyone. People who are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, but instead choosing to freeload and leech off of other humans can provoke his hatred. Another dislike of his are the types that tend to be bloviating. Unnecessary beating around the bush, hiding the truth and ultimately wasting everyone’s time is just completely missing the main point of communication. He can understand people who put their words into a more friendly and softer form (even though he himself is the type to say everything directly), but some just like to desperately divert the conversation or act dramatic for no productive reason whatsoever. He also isn’t a great fan of drama itself. While it certainly is interesting to observe, it ultimately yields no results and just ends up hindering everyone. It is easy to annoy Beval this way, but he tends to have his anger and feelings in general under control. If it ever were to come to a point where he would be about to explode, he would most probably try to defuse the situation by simply leaving, because if it managed to provoke him that much, it would most likely not be worth his time.

{History}History: On a windy May dawn in a Sangproctor hospital, two babies were born to Samuel and Mary. First came Bev, and right after him, his fraternal twin, Grace. From the very beginning, it was quite clear that the two babies would become very different people. The only real personality traits they shared was their cheerfulness and curiosity. But their interests diverged at a very young age. While Bev was interested in listening to stories, drawing pictures, watching TV and observing nature, Grace was much more active - climbing trees, chasing Pokémon, running around and dancing. Interestingly enough, they got along quite well, despite their completely different “hobbies”.
He wasn’t always as boringly cold and distant as he is today. Surprisingly, he was quite the opposite, actually. Since him and Grace were twins, they usually travelled together, and while Bev was more the person to stick to himself, Grace was the interesting and cool one. Often stealing the limelight from anyone else, including her brother. He didn’t particularly mind, after all, that just meant he’d have more time to have fun with his hobbies. Yet at some point, it started bothering him.
This happened around the time they both entered kindergarten. While it was fun to do the things he liked, the other kids seemed to enjoy spending time with each other to a perplexing degree. Of course, that only meant that it was at least worth giving a shot. And so he mustered up his courage at numerous occasions to introduce himself to another child, but his attempts were futile again, and again, and again. Compared to the others, his attitude and interests were the most disinteresting, and so most of the acquaintances he had made only lasted for about a week before the contact slowly petered out.
This type of “isolation” hit him hard. The motivation to socialize started to run out, and he eventually gave up completely when 3rd grade came round. From there on, most social contact would have to be initiated by others, because Bev had shut himself away. It’s not like he hated talking, on the contrary, he loved it! But after failing so many times, he gave up on being the one taking the initiative. The only one really wanting to talk to him was Kate, and he really appreciated that. As someone who didn’t care for Bev’s behaviour and was very outgoing, she was a perfect friend. Otherwise, he was totally alone. But this also had its bright side - instead of spending his time socializing, he could read, study, practice and develop his skills. That’s how his interest in solitary activities and learning skyrocketed. He tried picking up instruments and broadening his horizons in many different fields. By the point of finishing primary school, he had already proven to be above average in conventional intelligence disciplines compared to his peers.
Then secondary school started. Here, Bev stood out even more amongst his schoolmates. Acing the exam for the Trainer’s License, he had also shown much interest in the world of Pokémon. Reading a lot about them, he decided that he would study Pokémon further at university. This wasn’t the only way he stood out from the others, though. He was a person who would always stay quiet until spoken to, not even greeting someone. This clearly didn’t help his reputation of an arrogant stuck-up bore. But the teachers had the exact opposite reaction. They picked up on his talents and skills rather quickly and, of course, used that in order to represent their school on a multitude of competitions. Soon, Bev became quite well-known in the part of Sangproctor where he lived, however, this hadn’t really affected the opinion of his peers on him. Yet the competitions were like a new world to him. He could finally meet people who had a similar mindset as him - and maybe he could have finally found people who understood him.
This, together with his best friends, Alex and Kate, have made him more open and initiative in social situations, but after so many years closed off, it has made a mark on his communication skills even up until today. His thirst for knowledge and curiosity had not left him though, because his motivation and dedication was too big to stop now. His environment also encouraged the pursuit of wisdom in these fields, due to him choosing very scientific subjects in secondary school and already being in touch with actual scientists. And thus, even though now much more communicative, he didn’t lose the aloof, distant apparel. Bev himself cannot say if that made him happy or upset, because while it meant that he could still spend all of his learning and practicing, but it also meant that he would have to attend social events with just a very limited amount of people (usually one - Kate), which meant many less opportunities to converse.
This has partly reflected on his relationship status. Normally, not being in a romantic relationship would not pose a problem, especially not for Bev, who never really cared for a deeper connection of this kind. But there was one moment in which having a partner mattered - the prom. If this were the usual case, it would have been dismissed as any other social condition that could be safely ignored. Yet this time was different, since nasty rumours started spreading about him. People started laughing about him, even occasionally calling him names. A completely new experience, since if there ever were rumours circulating, Bev had never heard of them, nor really cared to look for them. However, since some were as audacious to be mean to him right in his face, he felt very hurt. Not really having experienced this feeling before, he tried to prove them wrong, and find a partner. But he couldn’t form a pair with any of his existing friends, since they all had a partner already. And since he wasn’t willing to ask any random stranger out, the situation was looking dire. This direness, sadly, didn’t disappear - he went to the prom alone.
While this might seem like a downfall as any other, it was special for Bev, since the gossip about him reached new levels. He felt blue the whole banquet, having to tackle the looks of everyone. He saw himself as a laughingstock. Among the crowd of hurtful peers, the occasional person could be found who genuinely empathized with and pitied Bev. But his lack of social skills and his emotional state made him interpret everything as just another hurtful, sarcastic remark. Rejecting every helping hand and advice, he only ended up adding oil to the fire, even if involuntarily. This sad episode of his persisted even after the prom, and his motivation to do anything productive plummeted. He did still fulfill his responsibilities and duties, but it was clear he was doing it half-heartedly. It was in the middle of college that this sad episode of his finally ended.
The aforementioned Alex turned out to be his roommate in the dorms. They were both living there, because they had decided to study at the GSUC. Sharing a room meant seeing and talking to each other very frequently, and this had a positive impact on Bev’s mental state. The dedication and passion seeping out of Alex seemed to refuel his batteries and slowly, but surely change him into the person he had been before. About halfway into the first year, the downer episode ended and he reverted into the Bev everyone knew before, except for a tiny difference - he would remember this period of his life for a very long time. This has ultimately made him put up walls around himself, because he knows how horrible some of them can be, so he prefers to stay safe and value his own goals more than those of potentially malicious individuals.
Other than that, his college life was pretty uneventful. Forming casual friendships with his peers was commonplace for him now, but nothing that would last. Since he wasn’t the type to attend rowdy parties, he preferred to stay in his room and study in advance or practice some of his hobbies. He didn’t feel any lack of fun, though, it was actually the other way around, he was having a blast studying and learning more about the topics that he was interested in. Being surrounded by many people with the same passion as him also helped. This peaceful lifestyle continued without any big deviations for many years, until Bev eventually got his doctorate.
After finishing his studies, he decided to go back home to Sangproctor. He saved up money to rent a flat close to the city centre which he furnished to his gusto. It was unexpectedly enjoyable for him to design his new living space. That wasn’t the only surprise, however. Grace had got a present for him for getting his degree: a Solosis. Bev and his new companion, Alphonse, formed a very close alliance together. And even though life was pretty peaceful, after all, doing research from home is quite stereotypical, something felt like it was missing. All of this was something Bev wanted to do, but not the way he wanted to do it. So he decided on something - he would do field research together with his newfound asset.
He wasn’t always as boringly cold and distant as he is today. Surprisingly, he was quite the opposite, actually. Since him and Grace were twins, they usually travelled together, and while Bev was more the person to stick to himself, Grace was the interesting and cool one.
{Relationships and Family}Relationships and Family: Bev has always been very close to his family. Especially to his sister, with whom he shares a close bond despite their numerous differences. The siblings don't diverge on everything, though. What Grace and he have in common is their Meuist upbringing. Their parents are very traditional in their beliefs and hold a conservative worldview. But the twins seem to have forsaken this religion and instead claim to be Atheist. Yet their personal attitude to Meuism does not seem to matter to both their close and distant family. Celebrating holidays is a must for every member. And since none of them want to dishonour their parents, complying is the only option left. These celebrations have served as family reunions, though, so it's not all bad.
Speaking of family, their parents have always been very proud of them. As Bev gradually developed into a scientist, they have been supporting him more and more. Grace is also part of their pride, being a talented gymnast and dancer. The relationship wasn't always optimal though, disagreements occurring especially over religion and social conduct. The latter applied especially to Bev. Always being more into books than people, he has not had many friends even within the family. But they didn't understand that, so they always tried to push him into socializing. Bev's personality won in the end, however, so his parents just had to accept that. Other than that, their interactions are cordial. Even until this day, they still sometimes treat him as a kid, which is a change compared to the stoic atmosphere in the scientific circles.
They aren't the only ones with a close relationship to him, though. It is hard for him to make friends, with people often not being able to handle his cold demeanor and grim determination. Yet there are some who don't mind or actually prefer his character. One group of people would be the ones who think the same. On the many competitions he has been on, Alex always appeared to be there. They were and still are quite scientifically inclined and have both pursued higher education in similar fields. Constant exchange of information and discussions about seemingly boring topics are pretty common between the two. It's like they both have the same mindset, which only makes their friendship stronger.
The second group would be the relaxed, phlegmatic people. One person in particular fits that description - Kate. Being one of his classmates in primary and secondary school, they spent a lot of time together. She has never cared about his development into a more boring pragmatic, but rather attempted to find the best in him despite the negatives. She is a person who is optimistic even to the point of being naïve, which would normally annoy Bev, yet she is so fascinating that she has managed to open his eyes to life and feelings at some times in the past. Even creating the nickname “Mr. Head-in-clouds” for him. If only she had had a bigger influence in his life sooner, maybe she could have made him into a more empathetic person today.
