Hello everyone,
I'm John, speaking on behalf of the Godai Staff.
There have been recent actions that have resulted in the banning of one of our members. This is a rare occasion for the site and some of you may know who it is. That's because the staff comes to all we can and gets more opinions than just our own so that we can be sure we're making a sound judgement.
There's a second reason too, it's because the staff, and hopefully most of you, want to have an open line of communication with everyone on the site. This isn't just a writing site, it's a place to come, feel safe, be creative, and enjoy the company of friends. Friendships, like all relationships, require even and honest communication if they're going to work. Everyone needs to be able to be allowed to speak their mind, and be receptive to others who are doing the same thing. To build trust there needs to be empathy.
Unfortunately I personally have been feeling a slight gap forming between the members and the staff. We used to note staff based on different strengths of pokeballs but the recent staff decided, "No, that promotes a hierarchical mentality" and we changed it. This announcement is in the same spirit.
If anyone, ever, feels unsafe, distraught, annoyed, angry, sad, happy, glad, excited, anything... Express it. And while you're expressing it, think about how it'll make others feel and how it can build the site to make it better. We want you to feel safe and have the capability to feel open in the chat and on the site, but we need to also learn to be sensitive to others. It's a tricky balance, and sometimes people have trouble finding it. I'd like for us to work together to try though.
This means that we will not see it as "tattle-tale-ing" if you send a Mod a PM about someone being exceedingly annoying in the chatbox. In fact we require that, as a site, to function properly. The staff are not mind readers and we have less social information through text than in person. We require this open line of information to work. This also applies to if you feel a staff member was out of line or unfair. No we won't re-roll any encounters or give you more evaluation rewards, but if you see something. Let us know. Our Inboxes are always open and we understand that it is necessary for everyone to be able to talk to everyone.
Mods may read and evaluate, but we are the exact same kind of people as you. People with internet access who like writing, pokemon, and friends. Don't be afraid of us. Your word is valid. You are as important as anyone.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
John and the Godai Staff
