Background
When it comes to outside his family, there isn't really much to know about him. He was given a simple treatment to Godai's political and geographical history, but not much else. Including rare visits to his own town, the only true world he ever knew was the outskirts of the Dojo itself and the mountain range along the winding gorges of the Laughing Summits. This lead to him not even knowing anybody outside of a few older residents that set up shop miles away from them. Even when people came to visit his Dojo to endure the rigorous lifestyle of his family, they were often so enveloped in their own hubris that he never got to even speak to them. What is interesting, however, is how this shaped his morals (including how he deals with other people.) If you leave him alone, he'll leave you alone. The loneliness of people ignoring him is only natural to the poor boy, and as much as he wants to be strong, he can't help but feel the urge to shatter under the intensity of having nobody to talk to while moving across Godai.

Ezla has unnaturally long, matte black hair with the ends dyed a deep and strong violet. He keeps his hair intentionally shortened so it doesn’t reach past his ears. Although he enjoys the longer look of his bangs when his hair is fully grown out, he wasn’t necessarily enjoying the sweat that would accumulate from walking in the harsh Godian sunlight. To keep his hair comfortable during travel, he maintains it to the best of his ability when he can by shortening it and keeping it nice and trimmed. That’s as much as he does though, and yet it consistently looks nice and soft with very few split ends.
During harsh winters, he often lets it return to its original length. Given how fast it grows out in such a short time, it’s more than suitable for catching snowflakes and keeping his head warm during winter storms.

Ezla takes on a whole lot of traits from both his father and mother. He attempts to look tough on the outside, giving very few words to others for conversation. In a mental attempt to act strong (as he sees it) Ezla attempts to bat off conversation and straightens his back to look imposing when he is forced to partake in it. There are usually a few reasons he does this, but it's mostly an attempt to imitate his brothers. He acts tough to hide how truly fragile he is on the inside, with the given fear that he might succumb to the fear that he tries so hard to hide. Despite this entire act, it’s quite easy for him to crack when people talk to him, not in a bad way of course. While Ezla doesn't necessarily like opening up to people, it's quite easy to see past the fake facade he puts on when he prefers you as an acquaintance at best. On the opposite end, however, Ezla has an extremely great trait, simply known as humility. Because of this, Ezla does not get offended so easily. Even when he breaks because people bully or tease him, he shuts himself out from that person and essentially ignores them until the problem resolves itself. This is an age-old tactic, mostly used whenever his brothers got on his nerves or would beat him senselessly. However, the better he knows someone (especially if he enjoys their company) the faster he is at opening up to the more decent and insecure side of his personality.
Deep inside, Ezla enjoys talking to others. When he becomes especially social, Ezla tries to tell jokes in heartfelt attempts to make others laugh despite his ineptitude at comedy. He talks a lot as well when he feels comfortable with others. He really likes being the center of attention, no matter how long he can hold it. Not growing up with many friends, the only person and friend he could ever interact with was his mother. Ezla felt more at ease by simply laughing off pain or awkwardness with jokes, but it isn't so incredibly simple as that. When he feels like people aren't really enjoying his company, he essentially clams up, even more so when others directly tell him to be quiet or shut his piehole. Still though, as much as it pains him to admit his faults, socially at least, he doesn’t let these things deter him from changing for the better.

Over time, these lingering doubts about the place in his own family lead to a growing inferiority complex. He could never be as proud as his brothers, or as steadfast as his father. This warped his priorities and the determination that he once had. Now he is constantly challenging himself and at the same time, comparing himself to those he meets. It's even worse when it comes to his interests, often shutting down when he feels like he is totally outmatched in any given situation. As much as he tries, he hates the fear of losing or coming up short, so he tries to fake it 'til he makes it even if that means he has to act tough to do so.

Ezla was born on the outskirts of Melka village during one of the worst winter storms the town had seen in the past ten years. Hail and avalanche had covered the roads to the outer edges of the town, eventually being deemed too dangerous to traverse even with Pokemon. The Charin family, a long-standing traditionalist family who resided on the outer rim of the village, struggled to keep their old family Dojo from crumbling as massive winds and raging snow threatened to bury the mountain. Ezla’s announcement into the family on top of all of this led to many of his siblings worried that this day was telling of the future; and that a bad omen had been cast upon his birth.
Ezla wasn’t a very prestigious-looking child. Ever since he was born, his father would consistently comment on how much of a weakling he looked, how he was abnormally skinny and tall even for a baby. Ezla’s father and his siblings wouldn’t fawn over him much and he would be neglected until he came of age to go on hunts and attend martial arts with the rest of his brothers.
Growing up, the one who would look after Ezla would be his mother, a nice and cheerful older woman who would eventually become one of Ezla’s greatest familial ties. She had a very pleasant and yet strict outlook on life, uncompromising in her very spiritualistic way of viewing the world. When Ezla turned seven she started a routine of taking him on hikes, especially in the spring where they would study the Pachirisu and Deerling that traversed the woods at the bottom of the mountain range. They studied the Pokemon on peaceful days while planting tree saplings so they could come back years later to watch the Pokemon enjoy the newly grown fields of spruces.
Ezla had been shown a peaceful way of life, but she stressed that such peace often comes with struggle as well. It’s necessary to be strong in order to live peacefully. Ezla, although he understood what she meant, didn’t necessarily take it to heart. He saw how fighting and Pokemon battles had allowed their family to grow strong, but he didn’t want to follow in their footsteps just to have a peaceful life.
Apart from his mother and father, he had seven siblings, six brothers and a sister who he had only heard about. The males of his family were always raucous and energetic. They hunted for pelts and would sell them in the village proper to pool together wealth in order to make it through tough winters. His brothers liked to spar quite a bit, each one of them somewhat proficient in a unique form of martial arts. They took over the training business for the family when his father was traveling, teaching students and other newbie Pokemon trainers who had made the trek along the dangerous trail leading to the Dojo. These were some of the only times where he got to actually meet people. As he didn't attend a normal school curriculum, those who only came by were the strangers who stayed at his house. Every year there was at least a variety of trainers and fighters, from beginning Pokemon trainers to hardened military vets. Some came to prove their worth while others seek to become stronger than they already were. Though, none of them paid him any mind, as Ezla didn't even bother to introduce himself. Over time, many would vanish within a day or two and the rest would stay for much longer. In the eyes of Ezla though, the only people he ever saw from beyond Melka village were gone in a flash.
When traditional preliminary classes had ended after Ezla turned ten, he had begun to take a serious interest in journalism and writing. Everything was taught to him while in school, as his mother was a certified teacher. She used to train students in both a type of Jiu Jitsu and traditional literature, with only one of these things becoming Ezla's primary interest. As homeschooling continued for Ezla, he would only partially succeed in a few things. Nothing really came naturally to him besides writing, with even history and socio-economics falling to the wayside. Godai's history classes did interest him, however, and although he enjoyed learning the history of Melka village and those who survived up here despite the harsh conditions, he never took it to heart. When it came to writing or reading, his mother's journals filled him with wonder. They were small books that would be filled with colorful and artistically expressive sketches of Pokemon in front of recognizable mountainsides and lakes. They’d be stuffed to the brim with notes on the unique Pokemon she nicknamed herself. More than once she would show her prowess and memory on hikes and trips to the village by pointing out Pokemon with common habits and mentioning how she had seen them around years prior. Entranced by his mother, Ezla found himself taking a further interest in Pokemon much earlier than the rest of his brothers ever did. Instead of battling with them, though, he went about studying their traits as if to follow in the footsteps of his mother.
However, Ezla's interests began to worry his father. once Ezla turned 15, he was eventually confronted by him in an effort to get him interested in martial arts or Pokemon fights. Despite his father's best efforts to teach the boy, Ezla still quickly refused to participate in spars or Pokemon battles; he had no reason to become strong like the rest of them, it all seemed pointless. Their lives were peaceful now, for what reason would that ever change? His father was noticeably upset at how easily this boy shrugged off the family virtues. Ezla was just a child in his mind, a rightfully naive young boy. Why should he have any interest in the rooted history of the family that had grown through conflict, before being cemented in Melka Village’s history as one of their strongest families? Their lives had been built upon strength, and for Ezla to dismiss that so easily was like an insult to his father.
Ezla noticeably felt an even stronger tension in the house as he argued with his siblings and father more and more. He couldn’t get through to them, desperately trying to explain why he had no interest in fighting or becoming strong at all. His father would continue to pressure him as time went on, Ezla’s siblings joining on this as well. They would bully Ezla themselves, trying to whip him into shape in an act of getting his mind out of the gutter. This only corrupted the ideals of the boys young mind, showing just how powerless he was if anyone felt like hurting him. Insecurities began to overgrow in his heart, a fragility that Ezla had once ignored had come full surface as he struggled to find his place in his own family. He felt so inconsequential to everyone, his mother being his only solace. Ezla’s mother, however, was a much different beast. She tried to protect Ezla, often scolding and punishing his brothers for even laying a hand on him. Ezla thanked her for the protection, but he knew and felt deep down that his father was right.
Three slow years passed, and on Ezla’s eighteenth birthday, he found himself leaving the Dojo he used to call home. He had no idea what it meant to be strong, as much as he hated to admit. He wanted peace above everything, but as the odd one out in his family, the slow strain of pain he felt with every passing day made this feeling of worthlessness grow all the more apparent. In the eyes of his family and himself, he needed to grow. His view of the world was that of a dreadful place, where you had to be strong to survive. This was a far cry from how felt as a young body. As much as he dreaded carving his own path to truly realize a peaceful future, he was unbearably scared. What if he couldn't make it out there, many miles from home with nowhere to go? He was already weak as it is, there was no point in hiding it anymore. Geesh, now he was sounding like his father, and that simple thought made his goal a priority. He had to do something about himself, even if that thing made him terrified to the core.
When it was time to leave home and Melka village, his mother was the only one who said goodbye to Ezla as he prepared to leave everything he knew behind. He hadn't packed much, figuring he would acquire supplies at the Pokemart far beyond his home. Taking a few Pokeballs and a bunch of home cooked meals, he had nothing else but the clothes on his back. His mother, however, offered him the family uniform before he left, a rugged and older design, but it seemed to fit like a glove much to Ezla's appreciation and gratitude. She acted as if this was the lucky charm that would guide him back to her in times of need. Ezla came to tears at the gift, promising her that he would return soon, if only it was to say goodbye again.

As homeschooling continued for Ezla, he would only partially succeed in a few things. Nothing really came naturally to him besides writing, with even history and socio-economics falling to the wayside. Godai's history classes did interest him, however, and although he enjoyed learning the history of Melka village and those who survived up here despite the harsh conditions, he never took it to heart. When it came to writing or reading, his mother's journals filled him with wonder. They were small books that would be filled with colorful and artistically expressive sketches of Pokemon in front of recognizable mountainsides and lakes. They’d be stuffed to the brim with notes on the unique Pokemon she nicknamed herself. More than once she would show her prowess and memory on hikes and trips to the village by pointing out Pokemon with common habits and mentioning how she had seen them around years prior. Entranced by his mother, Ezla found himself taking a further interest in Pokemon much earlier than the rest of his brothers ever did. Instead of battling with them, though, he went about studying their traits as if to follow in the footsteps of his mother.
However, Ezla's interests began to worry his father. once Ezla turned 15, he was eventually confronted by him in an effort to get him interested in martial arts or Pokemon fights. Despite his father's best efforts to teach the boy, Ezla still quickly refused to participate in spars or Pokemon battles; he had no reason to become strong like the rest of them, it all seemed pointless. Their lives were peaceful now, for what reason would that ever change? His father was noticeably upset at how easily this boy shrugged off the family virtues. Ezla was just a child in his mind, a rightfully naive young boy. Why should he have any interest in the rooted history of the family that had grown through conflict, before being cemented in Melka Village’s history as one of their strongest families? Their lives had been built upon strength, and for Ezla to dismiss that so easily was like an insult to his father.

He couldn’t get through to them, desperately trying to explain why he had no interest in fighting or becoming strong at all. His father would continue to pressure him as time went on, Ezla’s siblings joining on this as well. They would bully Ezla themselves, trying to whip him into shape in an act of getting his mind out of the gutter. This only corrupted the ideals of the boys young mind, showing just how powerless he was if anyone felt like hurting him. Insecurities began to overgrow in his heart, a fragility that Ezla had once ignored had come full surface as he struggled to find his place in his own family. He felt so inconsequential to everyone, his mother being his only solace. Ezla’s mother, however, was a much different beast. She tried to protect Ezla, often scolding and punishing his brothers for even laying a hand on him. Ezla thanked her for the protection, but he knew and felt deep down that his father was right.
Three slow years passed, and on Ezla’s eighteenth birthday, he found himself leaving the Dojo he used to call home. He had no idea what it meant to be strong, as much as he hated to admit. His mother, however, offered him the family uniform before he left, a rugged and older design, but it seemed to fit like a glove much to Ezla's appreciation and gratitude. She acted as if this was the lucky charm that would guide him back to her in times of need. Ezla came to tears at the gift, promising her that he would return soon, if only it was to say goodbye again.
After registering first as a Pokemon trainer down in the village, and acquiring all the necessary gear, Ezla felt that this was a good first step in his journey. Without thinking of where to go next (or where to acquire his first Pokemon) he began to head away from Melka, following wherever the trail leading out would take him. I’m writing this to you in the hopes that it makes its way back towards Melka, or at least, it should. I’ve been told by the locals out here in Cascadia that the Pelipper mail is impeccable, so I’m at the very least praying that this makes it to you on time. I’m writing this down in my journal as well just in case I forget what I include here, but how could I ever forget what I write to you? In any case, how have you been? I hope dad’s treating you well. If you’re about to ask yourself; yes, I’m doing just fine. I made it past Marook a week or so ago, and I think you’d be impressed that I made a friend along the way. She’s adorable; a little Isdan Sandshrew like the kind we used to see in packs at the lake when I was young. A bit of a kleptomaniac, but very sweet. I hope you’re proud of me. I know I promised to tell you if I got hurt or injured when I was heading out, and sadly you were right in telling me I should have brought one of our family’s Pokemon to help me out in the wild. I ran into my new partner’s feisty mother and it totally tore me a new one, I think I was lucky enough to make it out of that alive. But thankfully I’m all okay. I stopped by a Pokemon Center on the way through and got myself properly patched up and cared for. Did you know I’ve never seen a Blissey before? It was so cute, if not a little forceful, but nonetheless it helped me out. I’ll be on my way in a few days now, I’m thinking of heading down west and cutting through Wisteur. I heard about Calta and I really wanna check it out. Anyway, stay safe. I’ll do my best in keeping you updated, but this is all I can do for now.

Ezla has unnaturally long, matte black hair with the ends dyed a deep and strong violet. He keeps his hair intentionally shortened so it doesn’t reach past his ears. Although he enjoys the longer look of his bangs when his hair is fully grown out, he wasn’t necessarily enjoying the sweat that would accumulate from walking in the harsh Godian sunlight. To keep his hair comfortable during travel, he maintains it to the best of his ability when he can by shortening it and keeping it nice and trimmed. That’s as much as he does though, and yet it consistently looks nice and soft with very few split ends.
During harsh winters, he often lets it return to its original length. Given how fast it grows out in such a short time, it’s more than suitable for catching snowflakes and keeping his head warm during winter storms.

Ezla has big, rectangular framed eyes. Although his eyes are often mistaken for a sort of deep gray, they are actually more of a cobalt blue when closely inspected. His eyebrows, which do well at exaggerating his facial expressions, are extremely sharp yet gently rounded n their resting position. When Ezla's hair is fully grown out, many people comment on how his eyes still somehow reflect light even despite being covered beneath his bashfully long bangs.

Ezla dons his family uniform on most days, a gift handed down by his mother before he left Melka Village. Despite the tense relationship with his family, he thinks of the uniform as a memory of his mother when she isn’t with him.
Beginning the first layer of the outfit is a long, cream-colored jumpsuit made up of a light breathable fabric, this is then covered over by two other layers of fabric with both outer layers consisting of a deep cobalt blue. The pants that cover the lower half of his body are baggy and have two bandage straps that tighten around his ankles which are usually hidden underneath ankle-high black boots. The final part of the uniform that usually covers his chest is a long-sleeved shirt with exactly three buttons and a small family insignia on the right part of his collar.
The Charin family insignia is a simply designed, sewn-on patch consisting of a single, sharply pointed black triangle inside a red ring. It has a detailed white streak along the top of the triangle which makes it look more like an arrowhead. Ezla doesn’t know much about the insignia itself, but that it was said to represent his family’s strength in a way. This uniform is almost perfect for any sort of weather, as the fabric hardens and lightens in response to cold and warm conditions. Ezla enjoys the feeling of wearing it all the time, as he believes the uniform makes him look traditionally powerful when he feels like he is almost anything but.

A tall and lanky young man, Ezla is often easily mistaken for a person who is much younger than he actually is. He has a sort of pointy chin and round ears that are often hidden away by his bangs. His skin is fair, sort of, bordering more on pale with deep shades of chestnut-colored tans along his arms and legs. In terms of cleanliness, Ezla has a small habit of getting dirty. You can often find ink imprints along with his calloused hands, usually from journaling and constant writing, or smears of grimy dirt that accumulate mostly on his face. Although Ezla is constantly cleaning himself in attempts to look distinguished, he almost always finds himself needing a bath after arriving in town from a few days of traveling. Apart from his hygiene, Ezla tries to mimic the mannerisms of a distinguished and fearsome person. When he walks, he walks with a purpose, carefully trying to imprint the image into passersby of a man who shouldn’t be messed with. Despite this entire act, it’s quite easy for him to crack when people talk to him, not in a bad way of course. While Ezla doesn't necessarily like opening up to people, it's quite easy to see past the fake facade he puts on when he prefers you as an acquaintance at best. On the opposite end, however, Ezla has an extremely great trait, simply known as humility. Because of this, Ezla does not get offended so easily. Even when he breaks because people bully or tease him, he shuts himself out from that person and essentially ignores them until the problem resolves itself. This is an age-old tactic, mostly used whenever his brothers got on his nerves or would beat him senselessly. However, the better he knows someone (especially if he enjoys their company) the faster he is at opening up to the more decent and insecure side of his personality.
Deep inside, Ezla enjoys talking to others. When he becomes especially social, Ezla tries to tell jokes in heartfelt attempts to make others laugh despite his ineptitude at comedy. He talks a lot as well when he feels comfortable with others. He really likes being the center of attention, no matter how long he can hold it. Not growing up with many friends, the only person and friend he could ever interact with was his mother. Ezla felt more at ease by simply laughing off pain or awkwardness with jokes, but it isn't so incredibly simple as that. When he feels like people aren't really enjoying his company, he essentially clams up, even more so when others directly tell him to be quiet or shut his piehole. Still though, as much as it pains him to admit his faults, socially at least, he doesn’t let these things deter him from changing for the better.
A lot of these unworthy traits seep into everyday life, though. His father and brothers had put a lot of emphasis on fixing Ezla’s inner problems, such as his clumsiness or general awkward nature. This only leads to the drastic exaggeration of those issues that show up more on the surface of Ezla’s personality than it had before. Over time, these lingering doubts about the place in his own family lead to a growing inferiority complex. He could never be as proud as his brothers, or as steadfast as his father. This warped his priorities and the determination that he once had. Now he is constantly challenging himself and at the same time, comparing himself to those he meets. It's even worse when it comes to his interests, often shutting down when he feels like he is totally outmatched in any given situation. As much as he tries, he hates the fear of losing or coming up short, so he tries to fake it 'til he makes it even if that means he has to act tough to do so.
Despite Ezla’s faults and insecurities about himself, he has more than a few strengths. He works well in clear-cut situations that often spring up sporadically. Ezla is a quick thinker, his priorities that he often thinks about beforehand take place immediately as soon as a problem arises. He’s willing to put others behind him in dangerous fights and has a compelling urge to be the sacrifice should there be no other choice. Still, though, Ezla often finds himself messing up a lot of things in attempting to resolve issues. He often trips up words when under pressure, often dealing with this by just uttering simple phrases with pinpoint meanings.
However, his single strengthened bond and experiences with his mother had helped shape him into a more methodical thinker. Planning things out before something comes up is his forte, so to speak. Slower-paced action and times where he can clear his head for just a few seconds is where he gets into his zone. During these times, Ezla likes to calm himself by reflecting back upon his happiest moments. These memories help slow things down for the boy, enough that he can think more clearly without having to worry about pressing concerns.

Even when people came to visit his Dojo to endure the rigorous lifestyle of his family, they were often so enveloped in their own hubris that he never got to even speak to them. What is interesting, however, is how this shaped his morals (including how he deals with other people.) If you leave him alone, he'll leave you alone. The loneliness of people ignoring him is only natural to the poor boy, and as much as he wants to be strong, he can't help but feel the urge to shatter under the intensity of having nobody to talk to while moving across Godai.

After registering first as a Pokemon trainer down in the village, and acquiring all the necessary gear, Ezla felt that this was a good first step in his journey. Without thinking of where to go next (or where to acquire his first Pokemon) he began to head away from Melka, following wherever the trail leading out would take him. Unknowingly, he began to make his way to Cascadia city, but first, a quick stop at Marook Caves.

She loves nuzzling up on her trainer and practically begs for pats to the point of being extremely clingy. Along with being very attached to Ezla, she is also a bit attached to the objects around her. Practically a kleptomaniac, she mischievously steals and hides things from those around her. Hey, Mom.
I’m writing this to you in the hopes that it makes its way back towards Melka, or at least, it should. I’ve been told by the locals out here in Cascadia that the Pelipper mail is impeccable, so I’m at the very least praying that this makes it to you on time. I’m writing this down in my journal as well just in case I forget what I include here, but how could I ever forget what I write to you? In any case, how have you been? I hope dad’s treating you well. If you’re about to ask yourself; yes, I’m doing just fine. I made it past Marook a week or so ago, and I think you’d be impressed that I made a friend along the way. She’s adorable; a little Isdan Sandshrew like the kind we used to see in packs at the lake when I was young. A bit of a kleptomaniac, but very sweet. I hope you’re proud of me. I know I promised to tell you if I got hurt or injured when I was heading out, and sadly you were right in telling me I should have brought one of our family’s Pokemon to help me out in the wild. I ran into my new partner’s feisty mother and it totally tore me a new one, I think I was lucky enough to make it out of that alive. But thankfully I’m all okay. I stopped by a Pokemon Center on the way through and got myself properly patched up and cared for. Did you know I’ve never seen a Blissey before? It was so cute, if not a little forceful, but nonetheless it helped me out. I’ll be on my way in a few days now, I’m thinking of heading down west and cutting through Wisteur.
