Trainer Profile
Character Name: Aiden Aspen
Nickname: Asp
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Trainer Class: Ranger
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 140 lbs
Hair Color & Style: Aiden’s hair is composed of straight blond locks that reach just below his ears. Several of the strands fall into his face, causing him to constantly have to move them out of the way of his eyes. This messy look is actually very intentional, with him going over it every morning to make sure it is the type of chaos he wants it to be. Occasionally, however, an event (such as a date) will cause him to actually comb it back and style it with gel. As thick as his hair is, it usually rebels about halfway through whatever is occupying his evening, but it stays contained long enough to at least get him through the door, which is all he cares about.
Eyes: Aiden’s milk chocolate irises are housed in some rather narrow eyes. Compounded with his perpetual squint, a bad habit he has developed for a myriad of reasons, and you get a constant scathing look even at the best of times. Razor thin eyebrows and some surprisingly deep frown lines for his age complete this constant glare that makes some passersby squirm. He has taken to hiding these eyes behind a cheap pair of black frameless sunglasses when possible to try and prevent such reactions, especially while working in situations where he needs civilians to actually trust in him for their safety.
Clothing/Accessories: In a typical day, Aiden dresses pretty simply. His default choice is a white tee over jeans and grey trainers. A water resistant dark blue windbreaker comes out if the weather calls for it. When winter rears its ugly head, He will break out high-top boots the color of cocoa powder and a jacket to match, with a black beanie to cover his head and ears. A simple hoop earring usually sits in his left earlobe, although this is sometimes replaced with a black stud or even removed entirely when doing more physically demanding tasks than just walking around. He may be cocky, but he’s not willing to catch that hoop on anything and deal with those consequences.
Outside of his Holocaster, wallet, and keys, he doesn’t really carry around much extra. Occasionally, though, when he has more than just his essentials on him, he will break out the old red sling pack he had while in college and use that to carry whatever he has.
While on duty, he dons the more typical dress of a ranger. A beige button-up work shirt is worn over dark green work pants and a pair of light brown boots. He foregoes the more traditional wide-brimmed ranger hat for the newer option of a baseball cap emblazoned with the Ranger Corps logo on it. This logo is also found on his left breast, where he pins his badge. His earring is gone during this time, nowhere to be seen. Finally, a large pair of sunglasses covers his eyes and the upper part of his face. These are a generic brand with nothing fancy other than lenses dark enough that it is hard for others to see his eyes behind them. He prefers it that way.
Whereas his civilian form is pretty minimal, that completely changes here. A beige outdoor pack is filled to the brim with supplies he might need, should he not be near a service vehicle. Everything from a first aid kit to braided cord to extra maps and water for lost hikers resides in there. Meanwhile, his belt has a slot for some basic repellant, as well as three slots on each side for pokeballs. He does keep a pocket knife in a sheath too, but that is positioned more at his back than side so as to not make anyone he is near nervous.
The final thing of note to mention is his Holocaster. Due to the outdoorsy nature of his job and the potential to be out in bad weather, he has picked up the newest rugged version of the device. This one is a bit bulkier than the slim and sleek versions most people want, but it is much more durable than even the normal form and should survive almost anything he throws at it. Almost.
General Appearance: Outside of everything already described, Aiden doesn’t have any distinguishing marks or anything that helps him stand out in a crowd physically. What sets him apart from others is more his demeanor.
Aiden’s stride radiates confidence. He looks right into the eyes of anyone he sees and almost seems to dare them to look away, especially if it is someone larger than him or in a position of authority. He is by no means shy, nor is he good at holding back. He speaks his mind openly to those around him and seems rather unphased by their reactions. If anyone challenges him, he seems to actually welcome it, perking up a bit as he steps up to the task. A smirk is almost always plastered on his face, giving his look the feeling of constantly mocking or judging others.
Despite this abrasive first appearance, however, Aiden is fine to talk to. He is abrupt in his answers, but he tries to be helpful and do his part. He is extremely driven and always willing to go the extra mile if anyone would just ask.
While working, his expression becomes more neutral as he tries to be a bit more approachable. He even will try and be nice to children, although his jokes are terrible and his sharp laugh doesn’t always make them feel any better. He constantly is trying different ways of approaching visitors so that he comes off as a good presence. He knows how he can both look and be, hence the sunglasses and the attempts to be nice. It isn’t always a success, but he keeps trying, and always offers what he can.
When he is neither working nor interacting with others, he will walk around with a bored expression on his face. His stance becomes more slouched and his head ducks down a bit. He also moves a lot slower, not really seeming to have anywhere he needs to be. He just appears to exist, nothing more.
Hometown:Weswell Town, West Godai
{Personality}This young man is quite complicated. He has a short temper and is quite easily agitated by others. He responds to this usually by escalating the situation, goading the other side to see just how much of a reaction he can get out of them. And as far as this opponent is willing to take it, so is Aiden. He is always ready to fight, and that mentality alone seems to provoke others too.
This is further compounded by his burning hatred of rules and those with power. He wants control for himself, and his first reaction when someone tries to limit him in any way is to rebel. This doesn’t mean that he thinks he is always right. He knows he can be wrong, and that it actually happens quite often. But he abhors the feeling of helplessness that comes with having someone else make the decision for him. He would always rather he make the decision and it comes out wrong, because at least then he knows he tried. However, his way of trying to get into a position where he makes the decisions is flawed at best, and his aggressive stance usually leads to more harm than good along the way.
Outside of this, Aiden is a very hyper person. He always wants to be moving or doing something. He is extremely driven and always wants to go even farther than what is given to him. This usually comes off as just another way to agitate people or just pure impatience. And oftentimes, that is exactly what that is. But, on the rare occurrences where it is channeled correctly, he is able to show just how strong his work ethic and mentality can be. Once he sets his mind to something and is allowed to pursue it freely, the sky's the limit for him.
When there isn’t something for him to pursue, this raw energy comes out as him running or playing sports or even taking extra shifts. He just needs to be busy as neither his body nor his mind can truly ever shut down.
Once the rough exterior is broken through, the Aiden he wants to be can be seen. He is an extremely protective individual, always wanting to throw himself between people and harm’s way. He is extremely caring and empathetic, just currently lacking the gentleness or patience that usually accompanies these feelings and helps them be expressed. He just wants to help people, no matter who they are or what they need. If he has the ability to, he will give it his all to help.
When left to his own thoughts, Aiden’s mind is usually a whirlwind. He bounces around from his present experiences to his past to wondering how those he can’t see right now are doing. This can be overwhelming and fatiguing, even for him, so he often tries to distract himself with mental games and puzzles. He is an avid fan of mysteries as trying to solve it before the book reveals the culprit has been an effective way to channel his mind. Outside of that, he tries to keep updated on everything new going on, whether that’s general news or technology or even just the drama in the entertainment sphere. He doesn’t truly rest unless he finds himself completely alone in the wilderness. A stunning view that is just for him can sometimes get him to stop and just see the world for how it is, instead of constantly having to worry or overthink about other things. In those moments, he can let go of the tension he constantly feels and just be.
Aiden’s views on the world itself are, not surprisingly, a bit shifted from the norms he sees in media. His view is pretty simple to summarize: The underdog deserves to win. It almost doesn’t matter how that gets achieved, as long as he can overcome whatever higher power is overshadowing him. There, is, of course, a breaking point to this though. While underhanded maneuvers don’t phase him, Aiden doesn’t like seeing people he views as innocent getting hurt. If they haven’t initiated pain, then why should they receive any? There’s enough in the world without needlessly starting more. To Aiden, even as physical as he can get sometimes, it is never meant to cause pain, but to end it.
Now he knows that this is quite different from what would be accepted by others, yet he still follows through with it. Society hasn’t done much for him, so while he tries to stay in line enough for necessity, this still claws at him inside due to it being yet another way he feels suffocated by others wanting to dictate who he is and how that is shown. This angers him, as everything seems to do, but this is compounded by it being anger from two different sources: one from him feeling chained by society, and one for the fact that even the basic parts of being a human elicit such emotions from him. For someone who is so hyper and always going, Aiden finds his own mind and his inability to shut down and just find peace with “normality” to be the most utterly exhausting thing left on this planet, far more than anything externally could cause. He hasn’t entirely forgotten what it felt like to a child filled with joy, and while it fades more every year, he does hope that he can eventually find something similar in this new reality of his, finally letting him move on from his experiences.

{History} Aiden is the youngest of two sons in the Aspen household. His father, Will, was one of the many miners in town, while his mother, Dawn, owned a general store. Overall, the family did well, so Aiden and Colt, his brother, spent their early years pretty happy. They played together occasionally, had friends from school, and just generally had a good time. Colt was certainly his mother’s child, and the two of them spent a lot of time together, especially at her store. Aiden, however, took after his father. Will doted over him, taking him out on adventures and teaching him everything from survival tactics to how to play baseball. The young child lapped it all up, happily taking after his father however he could. Those years had them all as a beautiful little family in the community. However, around the time Aiden turned 11, this began to change.
The constant stress of increasing demands at work led Will to start bringing his troubles home. His temper got shorter and shorter, and his reactions when it broke got worse and worse as time went on. Little things that used to be no big deal to thim would cause him to rant and rave, spewing venomous words at whoever had dared fail him. And as alcohol became a common inclusion, it only got worse. Dawn had already been struggling a bit from running a small business by herself, and so after dealing with his increasing abuse, she finally just caved in. She didn’t have the fight to go against him, and she fell into a passive apathy just to avoid being beaten down any more. And since Colt, already the most shy and timid of the family, was too afraid to do any more than cower helplessly, it fell on Aiden to confront this bully, just as his father always taught him..
While Aiden was the youngest, and by far the smallest, he was also the one who could endure the most. Whenever he saw another eruption coming from his father, he would intentionally provoke him so that he would be the target of that fury instead of his mother or brother. The two clashed constantly, usually with words, occasionally more. The once close pair now were at each other’s throats, and the closeness they had once shared only served as gasoline to pour onto their inferno. This constant onslaught put Aiden on edge. He went from being a child full of wonder and adventure to a teen consisting of rebellion and anger. Raging hormones confused him greatly as puberty hit, and he neither had the time nor the energy to figure out what was going on. To make matters worse, his situation with his father had only caused separation from his brother and mother as well. Colt didn’t understand why Aiden kept poking the Bewear as he did, and decided that Aiden was the cause of his discomfort and pain. His mother was too disconnected from it all to really reconnect, throwing up a wall between herself and her husband, as well as the child that resembled him the most. The very family he was sacrificing himself for blamed him for the pain, not the true cause. Being assaulted on one side and abandoned on the other would destroy anyone, let alone a pre-teen.
This caused him to lash out severely to anyone and everyone. He lost all trust in any sort of authority and found relationships to just be a burden on top of everything else he had. He pushed his friends away and his grades dipped dangerously at school. His only remaining confidante, Kevin, was a boy his age going through struggles of his own. Both of them were struggling with life, and often were too busy to really be there for each other, but the moments they got to spend together were times where both boys could finally get the weight of their worlds off their chests. It was the only time Aiden felt like someone truly was there and cared for him, and he knew that those moments were one of the only things keeping him from completely imploding, so he hung on to those times as much as he could.
His other safe haven was one he would slip to late in the evening, either when his father fell into an early drunken sleep or was in one of his rare good moods. He would slip out to the wilderness surrounding the town and just run. To a boy who always felt trapped, being finally free under the open expanse of the night sky made him feel like he was soaring. He would sprint and climb and slide and do whatever he could just to keep moving. Even when his lungs were burning, he would push forward more and more just to continue feeling that release, that freedom, that escape from the horrors of home and the painful memories of what once had been.
As secondary school approached, Aiden had to make a choice. He had a chance to leave, and it was a severe temptation for him. But yet, while he could leave, his mother and brother were still there. So he chose to stay, counting down the days til graduation. During this time, he went searching for what he could do once his time was finally up. As he looked, he found the description of a ranger and what it was like to work in the Ranger Corps. The temptation of a job that offered him not only the freedom of the outdoors that he leaned on so much, but also the ability to have some actual control of his own for once, was enough. He knew what he wanted to be then and there. Thankfully his outbursts and incidents had never gotten so big as to leave any permanent records to hurt his chances there, but he had been in enough fights at school that he knew he was on thin ice. He also had to try and improve his grades, as his barely passing mentality wouldn’t be enough for him to get anywhere. School had been the least of his priorities for a long time, but now it actually had a purpose to him. With this in mind, he began the long trek to improving his grades and getting set up for going to college.
Catching up was no easy task, especially with his home life still lurking, but he pressed on. He would pass on his chance to go run often to instead focus on studying, even if he didn’t get much out of that due to the pent up emotions. Any time he could, he would go with his mother to her work and study in the back. Things became a bit easier when Colt finally left the house, going overseas to Mezaoto to be free from the family and its troubles once and for all.. While he would never declare it openly, having Colt gone removed a weight from his shoulders and let him breathe a little bit easier. One less person to blame him, and one less person to protect. Having to only watch overhis mother gave Aiden a bit more leeway with how he spent his time, and that tiny boost was enough. He finally graduated from secondary school with decent grades, good enough to at least get him into a fringe university of some sort. And yet when the acceptance and rejection letters came back, one caught him by surprise: GSUC had said yes. The preferred school for rangers had accepted him, even though it had been a reach at best when he had applied.
He was overjoyed at this, and shared it with his mother, brother, and Kevin. All were delighted to hear about this, as well as being quite surprised in their own right, but they were happy for his good fortune. His father even asked about it, catching the young man by surprise, and congratulated him on getting in. That was all that was said between the two that day, but that was a more positive interaction than most.
Aiden packed his things and moved to GSUC as soon as he could. His time there passed rather quickly to him. He spent most of his time in academics and sports, keeping himself too busy to ever really leave campus, especially during the holidays. Communication with his family was kept to an absolute minimum. This man had served his time in that prison of a house, and he wasn’t going back.
He became slightly less uptight and learned how to be at least a bit more approachable to others, although he still rubbed plenty of people wrong. He made a few alright friends and even dated a few times, although none of this ever was very serious. The only person he was close to during this was Kevin, who he would call up and talk to once or twice a week. Kevin was working down in the southern region of Godai and taking night classes in business so he could move up the ranks soon, and Aiden cheered him on through it. Kevin did the same to him, always reminding him why the work he put in to be a ranger would be so worth it. The two had been through far worse, so being able to just be there for each other and see the opportunities they had was a welcome addition to their friendship.
Finally, graduation came. Aiden finished yet again with passable grades, nothing to write home about but enough to give him a chance. And a chance he got. The eastern ranger center accepted him into their initiate program, and that is where he headed next, ready to see what truly being a ranger would be like.
