Chris arrived at the semi-finals early, which meant he only had to fight half the total crowd to get to his seat. Even early it looked like this was going to be a crowd with only standing room available by the time the fight would start. He found his seat in short order, and only had to kick out a scrawny man who insisted it was his seat. Chris was calm as he spoke to the man, but his eyes were cold. ”Let’s compare our tickets.” The man bristled in anger, and his friends stood up in an obvious attempt to make Chris back down. However they quickly cooled off when they noticed Chris’s physique from working on the farm, and the trainer just calmly thumbed over his shoulder at one of the security that was standing nearby. The official just happened to be looking in their direction at the same time they were looking at him. The original squatter paled slightly. In the same quiet tone Chris spoke. ”Let’s compare our tickets.”
Turned out all three had ‘accidentally’ purchased tickets for the nosebleed section. Chris spoke in a pleasant tone, but his eyes stayed cold. ”No worries. Mistakes happen.” He held out his hand to shake, and the man hesitantly took it. Chris made sure to squeeze it just enough to get the man to wince slightly, as Chris’s hand was definitely stronger. ”Don’t repeat the same mistake twice.” With that the trio hurried out of the seats and headed up the stairs. Chris turned to the couple and their kid that were standing behind him. ”Here you go.” The ticket he held was actually the father’s, and the family were afraid of confronting the ‘tough looking’ men.
Chris handed the ticket back to the father and turned to walk up a few more rows to where his seat was. Luckily it looked like no squatters sat there. He heard the man calling to him offering a reward, but he just waved his hand vaguely as he walked. He made sure his path continued after the trio from before, and when they noticed him coming after them they hurried even faster. They shouldn’t have worried. His seat was only midway up the bleachers. He sat down and reclined slightly in his seat as he waited. He was eager to see how the ‘pros’ trained.

Semi-Finals. The words sounded preposterous to him. Like an abstract concept more than a reality. Or at least it seemed that way when he framed them in the structure of “I am in the Semi-Finals”. That couldn't be right. It had to be some kind of mistake. Not because his pokémon weren't terrific but because Luther knew he was a deeply flawed trainer. Any moment someone responsible would finally call off this joke and let everyone know that this trainer doesn't even deserve to be here, let alone in the Semi-Finals. He wanted to throw up. He wanted to smoke even more, but there wasn't time for either. The distant rumble of the crowd had already shifted to the hiss of wild applause as people were cheering over the MC's announcements. There would be no accidentally fashionably late hiding in the bathroom trying to smoke for Luther. This time there were wranglers monitoring him at all times and extra security that needed to be on the lookout for vengeful former competitors and overly wound-up fans. Apparently it was even worse in his case. People who remembered who he was were starting to crawl out of the woodwork attracted to the light of fame that was beginning to spark in the heart of his long-dead star. Luther had not anticipated that. He had not anticipated any of this. He'd been here to let his pokémon try their hardest for themselves, and see if maybe he could not fuck it up too badly for them while he was at it. Somehow he had bumbled his way to the Semi-Fucking-Finals and people were praising him. “This is going to turn bad so fast, I can feel it.” Luther muttered to himself as A wrangler began to turn his way. ----- The audience roared to life as Luther's name was belted out over the speaker system and Sunder proudly rumbled his way out of the contestant's tunnel and ground his way over to the contestant's perch. Luther could see people with signs with messages of support that ranged from simple to wildly obscure. It was insane, so much so that it almost turned the screwed on smile on his face into a real one. Almost. Luther stepped off of Sunder's head and onto the raised platform that was his trainer's box for this all too familiar field. 'Trees and water again!?' Luther thought to himself. He was all for nature but if he wanted to battle in the forest, that's where he would be right now. For the third time over the course of the tournament, Luther made a mental note to train up his water-type friend so as to not be as caught out in such an environment again. Still, perhaps the unexpected would work best here. After all they'd fought near water before, perhaps that was enough training to catch an opponent off guard. Luther nodded to himself and then reached over the railing and patted Sunder on the head. “Go get 'em buddy. You've got this.” Luther encouraged the giant stony serpent who bellowed a deep resonant cry in response and knocked over a tree on its way out onto the field. The crowd erupted in tremendous applause for Luther's choice as his faithful mount had already scored an overwhelming victory once in this tournament; but in the semi-finals the expectation was high that he'd be given a real challenge that would let the mighty beast go all out. Luther looked across the field towards the other elevated platform waiting to see who his opponent was, and what they would bring. He steeled himself for the worst. Maybe if he was lucky they were an over-thinker and were planning on him choosing a grass type to counter a water type, so had brought a fire type. Somehow he doubted he would be that lucky twice.

Josh was starting to find the cheering of the crowd to be something of an annoyance. He duster swayed in the still air of the stadium as he walked. Despite the crowds and overly bright field, he tried to keep a stoic face. A desperate attempt to seem unaware and unaffected by the immensity of the crowds around him.
His opponent was a man closer to Josh's age than his last opponent. As they regarded each other from across the field, Josh fought the urge to flinch at the field. He hadn't really considered the pond aspect of the battlefield, and his first choice was probably going to suffer for it.
Josh fingered the Pokeball in the wire cage on his belt, then drew it with a sigh. He tossed it out onto the field, and Gabby appeared in a flash of red light. She looked around, sniffing at the grass before wiggling her tail at the massive Pokemon before her.
Josh's opponent had chosen an Onyx. At least they were both at a disadvantage then.
He pointed at the opponent, trying to push what advantages he could come up with.
"Gabby, use dig! Try to get under it!"
His voice rang out in the quiet air, shattering the tension he wasn't entirely was only in his head.
The Rhyhorn pawed at the ground, sniffing before letting out a cry and charging at the opponent. Clods of dirt and grass were torn out of the ground in her wake until she began to sink into the soil. Clouds of dust billowed up from her path and the rock type vanished. In her pace was a long smear of a passage leading into the ground below them. Gabby had used the move at full speed, moving diagonally into the ground instead of the more traditional vertical shaft.

His opponent had been unknown to him before now. Luther had sacrificed the advantage of seeing the other competitors battle for the sake of finding moments of peace between rounds. They were a man that appeared to be near his age, maybe a little younger, it was hard to tell, and Luther always felt much older than anyone his age he met. Still it was refreshing to at least know he wasn't the only one competing that was barely out of puberty. He'd started to feel like he had joined a kid's league. They were wearing a long coat not to dissimilar from the one he normally wore; but Luther had been told to leave his behind for the matches. Seeing this guy he couldn't see why. It definitely cut a more impressive figure on the battlefield, gave an aura of brooding menace. Maybe he'd been asked to leave his behind so they wouldn't have a repeat in visual themes? Luther shook his head trying to drive out the distracted thoughts driven by the anxiety building in his chest. His opponent had called out a rhyhorn, and his heart skipped a beat. This could go very well for him, or very very poorly. Quicker on the draw, the signal to begin sounded and his opponent commanded his rhyhorn into the ground. “Big Mistake!” Luther was surprised at his own outburst to the other trainer. Swept up in the stress and excitement of the moment his mouth had acted without permission from his brain to blurt out his immediate thoughts. Acting quickly, Luther tried to play it off as intentional as he gave his own command. “Sunder, follow them down!” Luther called and his onix listened. The earth shook slightly as the massive stone snake slithered forward before arcing up into the air with a mighty and terrifying leap. Some members of the audience let out involuntary cries of shock while other's screamed in wild excitement at the sight of the great beast arcing through the air like a wailord bursting up out of the waves. Sunder crashed into the ground and the whole stadium shook with the mighty explosion of earth and stone and a massive cloud of dirt, sand and debris obscured the view of the arena for several moments. All the while, the ground shook under everyone's feet and just as the cloud was beginning to clear the shaking grew more intense. Luther gripped on to the railing of his platform to keep from stumbling. They were fighting now. Beneath the earth, away from the eyes of their trainers and the crowd, the two stony beasts were clashing. Above the earth, while no one could see what was transpiring they could see the after effects. The ground was being churned around, Some of the less sturdily rooted trees were falling over and everyone in attendance felt like they were in the middle of a small earthquake. Luther couldn't help but think optimistically as he envisioned sunder digging circles around the rhyhorn. After all Rhyhorns were able to dig tunnels but their legs still required them to work in ramps and low angles. Onix could dig near vertically, if the fight was a tunneling one, Sunder would have a huge maneuverability advantage. The fighting was reaching a fever pitch in the frequency of stony crashes that could be heard under the ground until finally there was a different sound. A second explosive crack of some kind that shook harder than everything else, and then stillness. Something was wrong, something was different. Luther could feel it, but couldn't place what it was, but the stillness and quiet worried him. In the distance he could see officials starting to get frantic and visions of emergency drilling and pokemon medical teams started to fill his head. Then the audience started to cry out and Luther finally realized what they were seeing. The water level in the pond was draining rapidly. Something had gone terribly wrong. Suddenly the rumbling resumed in earnest and the ground began to churn again. Trees were uprooted as rhyhorn ramped its way out of the earth and skidded to a stop in front of its trainer's platform. The beast was coated entirely in a layer of thick mud from the resulting slurry of the draining pond. Several second later, yet more trees were knocked to the ground as Sunder burst forth from the earth sending a spray of mud and earth off its body as it flailed its head wildly in a panic before crawling its way out of the ground entirely and seeming to breath heavily as its stony hide dripped thick gobs of damp earth upon the ground. “You alright buddy?” Luther asked, wanting to reach out and touch his friend reassuringly but knowing that doing so would forfeit the match. Looking across the field he called to his opponent, Josh. “ Is your Rhyhorn alright?” For the moment the stadium was forgotten. Making sure their pokémon weren't hurt beyond the usual hazards of a sporting pokémon battle was his top priority. Gabby and Sunder used Dig! Gabby and Sunder went Undeground[Gabby and Sunder broke the Stadium Gabby and Sunder are no longer underground and will not be going underground again. Chaos and Panda worked together to determine the outcome of the two pokémon using dig.

Chris was right with the crowd as they shouted their excitement on the battle below. Both Joshua and Luther sent out some powerful looking rock/ground type Pokemon. The trainer felt almost like the ground was shaking from the aura that was coming off both Pokemon. Either that or it was the crowds stomping the stands and shouting at the top of their lungs.
The first move was a classic for ground type Pokemon. Digging under the ground in order to get at their opponents from below. Chris had to deal with that with his first opponent who used Trapinch. He managed to avoid the attack by blanketing the floor with branches from the trees that grew in the arena. Now both Pokemon were using Dig in order to try and hit from below. The arena shook under the joint attack, though Chris was a bit more impressed with Joshua’s Ryhorn than Luther’s Onix.
The Ryhorn was able to perform the Dig more horizontal than vertical, which should have given it a bit more speed in order to reach Onix. The Onix was also impressive in the amount of height it reached before coming down and disappearing into the ground. The trainer watched with baited breath along with the rest of the crowd waiting to see what would happen.
All of a sudden there was a loud ‘crack!’, and the world became still. The pond that was in the middle of the arena suddenly began to drain, and Chris could only watch it in confusion. Then both Pokemon emerged struggling from the ground covered in soupy mud. Chris sat back and cringed slightly at the site, as both trainers took a moment to reorient their Pokemon. He muttered under his breath. ”That’s what they get for fighting dirty.” The look he got from the couple next to him was just as dirty, but he didn’t regret his bad pun. Instead he sat forward in his seat to watch what the trainers would do next.

Josh's breath puffed out as he watched the battle take place. To be correct, it was more of a lack of a battle. Both Pokemon had vanished underground, and aside from the slight tremors or collapsing tree, the battle was going on without the usual drama. While he hadn't expected it to be as visually impressive as in the Holocaster dramas, he could certainly agree with the general sense of disappointment that seemed to be filling the arena. They had always made underground battles feel tense. This was stressfull and somewhat boring.
He smiled at the opponent, doing his best to project an image of calm control. The man had seemed pleased with Josh's choice, and the Onix was an impressive specimen, but he had seen Gabby take on foes bigger than her before. Once. Josh did his best not to fixate on that.
There was a loud crack and bubbles erupted from the pond. At first Josh thought it was merely a trick of his eyes, but it soon became apparant that the pond was draining. Before he could try to come up with a response, Gabby erupted from the ground, caked in slushy mud that dripped from her pebbled hide. The Onix emerged in a similar fashion, as if evacuating. The two Pokemon shook the gobs of mud off themselves and caught their breath as the Trainers watched.
It took Josh a moment to realize his opponent had been talking to him, and he waved in a reassuring manner. "I think she actually likes it!" He called out.
Gabby did seem to enjoy the liquifying mud, as she was rolling around in it. Her feet would send clods of the stuff flying as she kicked out, and she let out several happy cries.
"Gabby, use Swords Dance!" Josh ordered. The rock type flopped from off her back, and started a rhythmic bouncing from side to side. Aura and mud mixed as she ramped up her power, feet splatting in the small puddle she'd made by rolling around. Gabby kept up the bouncing after the Aura faded and Josh had to smile. She was trying to get the Onix to play with her.

Luther breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the all clear from the other trainer. He couldn't help but be charmed a little by the Rhyhorn's antics and the ease with witch her trainer accepted them. For the briefest moment, the pause in the proceedings let Luther block out the stress of the crowd watching them, and the stakes over which they were battling, and remember this was two trainers who cared about their pokémon, having a battle.
Unlike Rhyhorn, Sunder was greatly displeased with his mud drenched state. The Onix was a ground type certianly, but he was familiar with the permafrost high in the Marook caves, and since then had traveled through the similarly dry earth of the Karsts. Being soaked in soupy mud was a new and unpleasant experience for the unfortunate onix.
Like The Rhyhorn, Sunder too tried to shake the mud off, but did so with significantly less glee. Whipping his long body back and forth sprays of mud were sent sailing high into the stands causing many to cry in dismay or glee depending on their outlook. Sunder was still streaked with mud but at least he wasn't dripping with it.
“Sorry buddy, we'll clean you up after.” Luther reassured the great beast who merely snorted in response.
Across the field, Luther heard his opponent issue a command and realized the battle was back on. They were preparing for a bolder move. Two could play at that game.
“Sunder, lets focus your frustration on your enemy.” Luther instructed.
Sunder was all too happy to comply. The stony snake seemed to blame the rhyhorn for his current state. He slithered closer, rearing his head back to take in air before letting loose a terrible reverberating shriek that drowned out even the surrounding crowds with his volume and concentrated aggression.
Onix uses Screech

The screech from the Onix felt like a physical wall ramming into Josh at top speed. It tugged at the loose sections of his coat and made his ears ring. He couldn't help but flinch at it, looking through a half closed eye to see how Gabby was holding up. She had turned her flank to the massive snake and was holding her head down as if trying to shield it with her body. She shook herself as the overpowering scream ended, snorting and hesitantly pawing at the ground.
"Lets give it some trouble, Rock Tomb!" Josh ordered. Gabby bounced, tossing out boulders at random as she formed them. A few flew towards the Onix, but Gabby seemed to be showing off more than playing. With a sigh, Josh pinched the bridge of his nose. The battlefield was now a mess of fallen trees, open holes full of mud and a few scattered piles of rocks.
"Gabby, use Drill Run!" Josh yelled, trying his best not to show his frustration. His voice sounded muffled, his thoughts briefly turning towards a panic about hearing loss. As Aura accreted in front of her, she started running towards the Onix. The Aura turned into a disc of glowing orange-brown energy which spiraled around her as she tore across the battlefield. Her footsteps started heavy at first, then became a cantor, followed by a full on gallop. She was charging as fast as Josh had ever seen her when she started closing in on the snake. She splashed through a puddle without slowing, some of the water hissing away into steam as it touched the cone of energy in front of Gabby.
She plowed through a pile of boulders, some shattering while others were knocked aside with force. Gabby had become a focused rush of destruction at odds with her normal behavior. It unsettled Josh a little bit, but such was battle.
"Hit it as hard as you can!" Josh called out. He had to admit, he was getting caught up in the energy of the arena. He didn't hate the feeling.

The two trainers took some time to examine their Pokemon and see if they could continue. Chris sat forward on the edge of his seat watching the exchange going on. The Ryhorn appeared to have come out of the battle in a happy mood, as was apparent with the gleeful jumps and rolling around in the mud. Its trainer looked annoyed with the behavior, but not surprised. Ryhorn must be playful by nature.
On the opposite side of the spectrum Onix was more annoyed than anything else. It shook itself and rubbed its body along the ground like a Growlithe with fleas. Obviously this rock/ground Pokemon was more used to the tough rocks of the mountains, and not the muddy earth of a swamp.
After a few moments the combatants were ready for the next round of battle. Ryhorn started off with what Chris could only guess as Sword Dance based on the movement and the aura that surrounded the Pokemon. Onix released a powerful, almost earsplitting sound, that pierced the roar of the crowd in the stands. Everyone grew quiet as they covered their ears against the powerful Screech. Chris was one of the ones who covered his ears, but he was so engrossed in the fight that he didn’t dare look away. Both Ryhorn and its trainer appeared to weather the attack.
After the sound died away Ryhorn burst into emotion. It gathered in rocks and debris from the surrounding area and solidified it into solid stones. The stones were then tossed at Onix in a way that attempted to slow down the opponent. That wasn’t Rock Slide. Bailey had tried to use that move on Chris earlier in their battle. No, this was something different. He didn’t think too much on it as the Ryhorn followed up with a powerful charge at Onix. The aura that surrounded the rock/ground Pokemon was obviously brown in color, so Chris guessed it was a ground type move. He watched intently to see if it would work.

Luther almost laughed as he watched the Rhyhorn toss the boulders about willy nilly. Her jubilant nature reminded him very much of Hope and Luther wondered if perhaps the two would get on well as friends.
Sunder, on the other hand, was having none of that nonsense. Stressed, uncomfortable and still frightened, the Onix just wanted to be away from all of this and done with it. The playful Rhyhorn was the one thing standing in his way between going back over to his trainer where he would feel better. With a few frustrated sways of its serpentine body he managed to avoid the halfhearted attempt to use one of his own best tricks against him.
Over the noise of the crowd, Sunder heard a sharp whistle from his trainer and did not look back to see what it meant. They had practiced this enough times for him to know what his trainer was hoping he would do. If the Rhyhorn wanted to throw rocks around, Sunder could throw rocks around too.
With a roar the serpentine beast called a swarm of sharp rocks into being and like rain they showered towards the ground, yet none of them seemed to hit or harm the Rhyhorn, if she was indeed the target.
“Good job, Sunder!” Luther called from his platform. They had practiced the manuver enough times, but had never tested it in live battle. He was all too pleased to see that Sunder remembered their training and would have to reward him after the battle for doing so well.
It seemed his opponent was also done playing around however as Luther heard the attack that was called across the arena. Rhyhorn charged at Sunder with blistering speed, tearing up the ground as it plowed forward.
“Sunder! Use Earthquake!” Luther called out hoping the devastating attack would be enough to eliminate the Rhyhorn before they could reach Sunder.
Sunder bellowed and aura visibly glowed around him as he prepared, but he was not ready fast enough. Rhyhorn crashed into his body driving him back several feet with a terrifying crash of stone against stone. Dust went everywhere and as it cleared Sunder was coiled in a heap, his eyes closed.
“Sunder is una-” before the announcer could finish the rock serpent opened its eyes, its body positively shining with a sudden flare of umber light. Sunder let loose a furious cry and lashed its whole body against the ground sending a powerful shock wave through the arena that caused the trees to tilt and the ground to ripple as he unleashed the full force of his Earthquake attack on his unsuspecting foe.
Rhyhorn's Rock Tomb missed. Sunder used Stealth Rock. Rhyhorn's Drill run hit It was critical! Sunder hung in there with Sturdy. Sunder used Earthquake. [boosted by STAB, but half power from low level]

The crowd cheered when Gabby rammed into the towering form of the Onix. The rock type was sent rolling backwards, sending one of the piles of boulders Gabby had created skittering across the muddy field. It looked like the snake was down for the count, but it surprised everyone by rising back up with a roar. It slammed the ground sending out a shock wave that knocked Gabby back as the torus of energy expanded across the battlefield. More cracks appeared in the ground near the pond, and one of the banks collapsed into the drained pool.
Another tree collapsed, branches cracking and splitting as the trunk crashed.
The roar of the crowd was almost as loud as the screech the Onix had made. The energy made the air electric, and it rolled over Josh in physical waves. The ground vibrated with the rise and fall of the the cheering.
"Gabby, you alright?" Josh shouted so he could be heard clearly. Gabby shook her head as she staggered to a standing position. She shook her whole body twice, her legs shaking as she wobbled. She took a few steps to the side as she gathered her strength, then turned to face the Onix. There were scrapes along one flank and a general unease to her bearing, but the Rhyhorn still seemed energetic.
"Hit it hard with Smack down!" Josh hoped the ranged part of the attack would finish what Gabby's Drill Run hadn't been able to. She took a could of hesitant steps, then stretched. The Rhyhorn built up energy at her horn, then launched it towards the Onix. Her first shot went wide, pulverizing on impact with a tree trunk and sending up a cloud of dust. Without even waiting to see the result, the Rhyhorn started running through the trees letting out a long cry.

Luther gripped the railing around his platform to keep from falling off the edge as the arena shook with the force of the earthquake. Once more dust and debris filled the air making it hard to see his pokémon in action but he clung to the desperate hope that Sunder's desperate attack had been enough to finish their opponent. The Rhyhorn looked battered and the crowd was in its most frenzied uproar yet.
He could understand why, his own heart was pounding in his chest, adrenaline running through his veins, being so close to the action in an all out battle was something he hadn't felt since his gym battle with Vita and this time he was opperating at a higher level of competition.
The rhyhorn was still standing, and even a part of Luther wanted to cheer for the sheer tenacity on display. The powerful pokémon had withstood Sunder's best weapon and now it was likely over for his partner. Sunder's head was hanging low and he was panting heavily. As the rocks were called up Luther saw him strain to dodge, to move away, or curl into a ball but he was too tired and far too slow. The stones collided and the onix swayed heavily before crashing to the ground.
“You did great, big guy.” Luther commended as the announcer proclaimed Sunder's defeat and he returned the great beast to its ball.
“Gabby is a pretty impressive girl.” Luther called out to his opponent as he reached to his belt for the other ball he'd brought with him into the arena. “Let me show you one of mine.”
“Go, Princess!” Luther called out as he tossed the pokéball into the field and in a burst of light the pink form of his big tusked granbull stood where Sunder had fallen.
Princess head shook back and forth in a frenzy of excitement as she growled furiously.
“Hidden power, now!” Luther wasted no time in instruction the furious monster and Princess was all too eager to comply.
Bounding forward towards the Rhyhorn her whole body shone with an eerie light as she feinted to one side and then vaulted over the stout opponent. In the air above the rhyhorn the energy surrounding her body moved to a single point above one paw. A sphere of glowing water which she pelted down at her opponent with all her might before landing on the other side of the rhyhorn and skidding on the ground as she twisted her body to make sure she was still facing her enemy.

The Pokemon replacing the Onix wasn't at all what Josh would have expected. His mind was still reeling over Gabby beating the Onix when a pink dog... Thing was on the field, bounding over the terrain and jumping over Gabby. There was a flash of light and Gabby was down. She let out a weak cry as her legs gave out and she fell to the mud.
The dog was waiting for a response, but it was clear that Gabby wasn't getting back up. Josh recalled her, holding the Pokeball against his chest.
"You did fine Gabby, get some rest." He whispered to her. He pulled out the other Pokeball and tossed it into the arena. It erupted in a flash of light, releasing the black winged form of Babaca. She let out a shrill cry as she swooped low.
He could only watch as the stones erupted from the ground and fired themselves at the bird. There were a couple of solid hits, but Babaca pulled up, glaring equally at the dog and her Trainer. Several feathers drifted to the ground as she made a loop near Josh's side.
"Babaca, hit it with Thunderwave!" Josh pursed his lips. He wasn't in a great position, and it was going to take a lot of work to keep himself from losing. It would start with limiting the foe's movement. Trying to focus on attacks or specials didn't seem wise when he wasn't certain what the foe could do. So keeping at range and striking from afar was going to h ave to be his best option.
Babaca let out a screech as she swooped low, blue electricity coursing over her body. A shot of blue pulsed down, sending waves crackling along the ground as she neared the Granbull. She let out a loud shriek as the energy built into a visible shine and a pillar of energy shot downwards.

The whole arena shook with the power coming from the almost downed Onix. It had survived Ryhorn’s attack only to get back up and slam the ground with tremendous force. Even with the rocking stands most of the crowd stayed on their feet cheering on the combatants. Chris was one of the ones still on his feet letting out cheers of his own. This was definitely a battle of professionals. He watched as Ryhorn managed to keep from fainting and unleashed an attack of his own.
This time Onix went down, and Chris let out a cry of excitement with the rest of the crowd. The trainer Luther called back the fainted Onix, and the entire crowd quieted to see who he’d release next. A tall pink Pokemon appeared, and it looked mean. At first Chris thought it was a Bewear from Skytouch Forest, but looking closer he noticed the large fangs jutting up from the bottom jaw. Not a Bewear. Maybe a Granbull? His mother had treated a Snubbull once when Chris was too young to help at the Pokemon center. Said it was one of the most unruly Pokemon she had ever had to deal with.
The new Pokemon didn’t hesitate to begin its attack on the weakened Ryhorn. It launched in the air over the rock/ground Pokemon and hit with what appeared to be a ball of aura that became water as soon as it shot forward. ”That was Hidden Power!” No one around him paid him any mind, as all were shouting in excitement over the battle. Chris’s mind drifted to his backpack in his room that held his own TM of Hidden Power. He had yet to teach it to any of his Pokemon because he felt they needed more training.
The attack of course knocked out the weakened opponent, and Ryhorn was called back. The next Pokemon to be released was a large black flying Pokemon. That’s a Honchkrow. He knew of the Pokemon because the unevolved Pokemon Murkrow could be found in the Kagereta Woods to the south of Kotoba City. He looked between the two Pokemon and grimaced a little. He knew that Honchkrow were dark/flying Pokemon, and he thought Granbull were either normal or fairy types. He leaned more towards fairy because of the pink color. Fairy were supposed to be resistant to dark attacks.
The Honchkrow made its first move, and Chris was stunned when it released an electric type move. It was a widespread and weak attack, but there was no mistaking the electric quality. He watched in his stunned state as he tried to think of what he just witnessed. Perhaps this battle isn’t as one sided as he thought.
