This is the ANNUAL SOLSTICE TOURNAMENT! Brought to you by Firebird Tech, unleash the Power! and The Cobalt Company! Eyes Open!
‘Welcome once again to the annual Solstice Festival Tournament held here in the lovely Torrent Stadiums! I’m Barry Trover and I’m joined here by our guest commentator, Josephina Fuentes, two time Golden Mask winner and current star of the Holo-Series ‘One Bad Day’! Josephina, please tell me, how surprised are you at the quality of skill shown in today’s qualifiers?
‘Honestly, I’ve been blown away by trainers this year. Not only have we had some of our youngest ever show up and slay in the tournament but there’s been a real show of diversity from around Godai.’
‘Very true, this marks the first year we’ve had combatants from Durskrim and Tiensee Town participate and I imagine we’ll be seeing more next year.’
‘Oh I love it, someone’s gotta represent Durskrim when I’m away!’ (laughs)
‘Now from your point of view, someone whose experienced the circuit and taken part in these sorts of publicised battles, what are the necessary tools to succeed? I’d imagine this is the first time for many of these young folks battling in front of a crowd.’
‘You know it’s different for everyone but generally speaking, I find that some self-awareness and discipline really clinch it for those that want to win. The crowd is just another obstacle, one that exists in the periphery of the arena, but an obstacle nonetheless. You gotta take it into account and really, you know, bond with your Pokemon in that moment. Because they’re out there in the field and they can’t have you getting stage fright when it’s time to battle.’
‘Well then you have trainers like Luther Hartman who ride in on an Onix and bask in that environment.’
‘Exactly, and if that works for him then I say go for it! Speaking of which, when was the last time we saw an Onix used in tournament level play? Amazing huh!’
‘Oh there’s definitely been a more liberal showing of Pokemon this year and it’s to be expected. These are young trainers and they have full freedom to experiment with strategies not often seen in pro level play. Now, this is something interesting from our statistics team, this year marks the first appearances of Vikavolt, Salandit and Spiritomb in the Solstice tournament.’
‘Now those were some really off colour picks that worked for their trainers, especially considering the arenas they were paired into. The pond stage is still biting people in their backsides I see.’
‘We can’t get rid of a classic!’ (laughs)
‘All I’m gonna say is, and I’ve been saying this for years, where’s the fire stage? I want to see flamethrower traps and lava pits.’
‘I think we may need to talk with our sponsors about that one, Jospehina.’
‘Hey Firebird Tech, show us the money and give the people what they want!’ (laughs)
‘Now before we get back to our festival highlights, is there anything you want to let the people know? Any new projects or films you can tease?’
‘Well season three of ‘One Bad Day’ premiers next month and I’ve heard some whispers that we may see a trailer today, but keep that on the down low. I’ve also got a project coming up back home in Durskrim, can’t say too much just yet, but I think the kids will really really enjoy it. Also, I’ll be hanging around here all day so if you see me feel free to say hi and score me some hot dogs from the vendors outside.’ (laughs)
‘I’m sure we can grab you as many of those as you want Josephina. Once again, thank you for popping by the commentator’s desk to give us your thoughts and hopefully we’ll see you around a bit later?”
‘Of course Barry, I’m always up for a big show.’
‘Much thanks to our sponsors, Firebird Tech and the Cobalt Company on joining us here for what has been a real bonanza of battles at the Solstice Tournament. We’ll be right back after this highlight reel…’
