Kotoba City
Kotoba City, or Herbalife City as it was originally named for the herbal medication for which it is famous . While a lot of people debate whether herbal medicine is less or more effective then artificial medication, no authority denies that it is effective in its own right. With herbs coming in from Grengrothe's massive fields, Scurarte's enclosed groves and elsewhere in Eastern Godai, and even some from the Greenhouse in West Central, Herbalife's experience and massive trade allows it to keep a near monopoly on the secrets behind herbal medicines.
However, there is a lot more to this city then just the herbal trades. Just on trade and produce alone, it also has open markets on the weekends, selling organic foods and homecrafted objects. It has some of the best weaved clothing around, with production facilities dedicated to treating and weaving Bug Pokemon's silk. While North Central might contain the centre of economy and trade, it is Kotoba that is the centre of organic and natural medicines and necessities. And if you know the right people to talk to, there is also the underground herbal stores, which sell drugs and other herbs which are generally on a restricted access to more honest people.
It's not as peaceful as it might seem though. There is an ongoing political battle between old and new that mars the balance of the city, as the city itself is currently in a part and part situation, where most of it is the old pagoda style towers and oriental houses with slide doors, but interspaced inbetween are monsters of steel and glass that rise into the sky, and other buildings of a more modern style now popular in Central. This is the source of the political battle, as one side of the city wants to keep the old houses, the history, the integrity and uniqueness of the city's structure, where the other part want progress, and to knock over the old for the new.
This whole debate and city-conflict was sparked when no one heard about the largest Pagoda tower in the centre of the city being knocked down to make way for a multi-story department store until the day it happened. Considered a relic of the massive Jagravannist history the runs through Kotoba, the outcry was immense, and as of now, all demolishing projects have actually been brought to a standstill until things can be worked out. However, the council may have a large issue with that problem, especially from those who are still trying to cling to their roots as herb farmers.
Kotoba's history is actually a more influential one then most, considering that it is the birthplace of many things other then just the herbal trade. From Fan Dancing, to other exotic entertainment, Silken clothing and the genius designed dress called the 'kimono' all find the roots of their creation among these walls. With a reputation for natural genius without the necessity of technological advancements, one wonders how much is really dying with the destruction of history in Kotoba.
Trainers of all sorts are found here, whether they be natives, there to try out the herbal trade or even feel a little exotic in whatever new style of clothing has erupted in Kotoba.
