Glosterrice Town
In the original days, the town once known as Sharsaber was much tinier, with a completely different atmosphere. All of the townspeople were very kind to one another, and each family held great honor in its name. The people functioned as a strong community, and the rates of crime and other felonies was extremely low in comparison to other towns. The original settlers of the town were attracted to the location because of the very rich deposits of ore that were located nearby. The ore was a great element to be used for the townspeople, which is what led them to becoming famous for their forged metals. Beyond that, across Godai, the people of Sharsaber were known for the high quality swords that they were able to produce. Some of the greatest blacksmiths of all time hailed from this tiny town, where the secrets of how to properly forge a sword were passed down from generation to generation. No member of any family dared to expose the secrets of their family's trade, in fear of the consequences that they would bring themselves. As time moved forward, the town shifted away from forging swords, and instead began to forge metal based art.
Everything from sculptures to the more abstract pieces, Sharsaber became known for being a great bohemian city, where art held a major role in the small little community. The community provided a place of shelter for the artistic minded, allowing them to congregate in a city where they could find other like minded people to support one another's craft. The city eventually evolved into not only housing artists who worked with metals, but instead artists of all sorts found themselves being drawn to the town. Performers were known to line the streets, finally pleased to have found a place where their art was fully appreciated. The town began to embrace the collection of free minded people who made it by with whatever means they could, just finding solace in being surrounded by other people who enjoyed similar ideas to them. Galleries opened up all over the place, providing a venue to showcase people's talents. Artists continued to strive to be the best at their art, though the competition of it all never got in the way of the enjoyment of the art itself. This greatly influenced the culture that had begun to take over the town. The ideas of free love and peace spread throughout the city.
Recreational drugs began to be used more widespread, leading into even more thoughts on how the world should learn to live in peace. The fashion style heavily adapted to the beautiful mixture of colors, and almost all of the art featured either bright colors, or even more popularly, tye-dye. The influence of this movement of people can still be felt today, as marches and protests came about to fight any sort of inequality that the citizens of Godai had found themselves to be under. People had finally found a city where they could come together and advocate for the idea of true peace, and find other people who supported them and those ideas. The movement was truly mind blowing, and affected citizens all across the region. However, time has a funny way of changing things, and it all began 30 years ago when FireBird decided to expand and place a new office in this innocent little town.
FireBird had begun to grow attracted to the city for a variety of reasons. One of the main ones being that since it was so close to the coast, it was very easy to have materials imported and exported internationally, straight from the town. Before long the entire status quo of Sharsaber changed in front of the town's eyes. With the introduction of FireBird, a flurry of younger people rushed to the town, hoping to find a job to support the families they had just began to grow. Older houses were torn down to make room for those that now were supported by means of concrete and steel. The mass influnce of the idea behind peace and free love slowly began to disappear, and the town changed into a place where status meant everything. It began to matter more and more what people could afford. Becuase of this, the people who had originally valued the artistic crafts and the trades involved with forging metals soon began to find themselves struggling in this new economy.
As Sharsaber continued to evolve into a more modern city, these residents began to find themselves struggling more and more, which has now led to a rampant homeless problem. Sidewalks are adorned by people just begging for the spare change in your pocket, hoping to gain their first meal in days. Despite the homeless conditions of the people who influenced the city in its "free love" phase, the larger companies didn't even give a second thought to the opportunity to exploit what they could to make money from tourists. Everything from the marketing and mass production of tye-dye shirts, or even the number of tour companies that opened up to squeeze cash out of tourists in exchange for a bit of history. To this day, however, there are some who had lived in the city before its transformation who plan to fight to their last breath for the retention of their old city, and will do anything to preserve the heritage that the town was once famous for. But these words have a habit of falling on deaf ears, to the city officials and common tourists alike.
The City hopes that with a new name, Glosterrice Town, the atmosphere might change, but is more change really what this city needs?
