Anya was never one to like waiting. Time seemed to move like a torkoal stuck in molasses. Anya was sitting, hugging her knees as she looked at the clock. 7:55. That meant five more minutes. Five more minutes until she could finally be allowed to explore the world. Five more minutes until she would be allowed to be given freedom from this empty prison cell that was her room. Her legs were bouncing out of her control. She bit her lip so she didn’t say anything, not wanting to wake up her chimchar who was loudly snoring on the wooly pink carpeted floor of Anya’s tiny room. On an average day, Anya would have already been singing a wake up song, much to the annoyance of Smokey, but today wasn’t like most days. She needed Smokey to be in his best mood, or else Anya could end up eaten alive, probably.
Anya’s heartbeat was racing, outside, she bit her lip as to not speak, but on the inside she was grinning from ear to ear. The clock ticked. 7:56. Anya groaned loudly, slamming her head onto her soft pillow. Gosh, she thought, this pillow is softer than I remember it.She wondered what fabric it was made with. Anya didn’t seem to realize it, but her pillow was more than comfortable, she felt her body relieved of tension, starting from her shoulders, until she was fully unconscious.
DING! DING! DING!
“Huh?” Anya said suddenly, popping up from her barely four minute long nap, leaving her cozy white blanket sprawled on the floor. She looked at her alarm. “8:01” It read. Anya’s mouth curved up to form a smile. She hopped out of the bed that seemed to entrap her, landing on her feet with a loud thump. Smokey stood up from his place on the carpet, stretching his arms over his head with a yawn. Anya giggled with glee, skipping over to where the sleepy Pokémon stood.
“Are you ready Smokers? Ready to have your first battle?” She exclaimed. Smokey’s head perked up to look at her, his eyes slanted, he howled while beating his furry chest. Anya grinned from ear to ear, kneeling down to scratch him on his fluffy head. He jumped up and down in response, before darting to the door and scratching at it.
“One second, Smo!” Anya said, tying her hair up in a messy ponytail. Before she could walk over the the impatient chimp, she heard the creak of the door being opened, nearly hitting Smokey in the head as he sprinted away.
“It’s time to wake u-“ Anya’s mother said, before turning her gaze to where Anya was combing through her ponytail with her hands. Anya smirked at her mother, crossing her arms.
“ I was up at the crack of dawn!” Anya bragged, her tone shaky and her eyes darting to the left. Anya was never a good liar. Her mom rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“I made toast. It’s downstairs, you can say bye to your sister too.” She said before walking to the kitchen.
Anya followed her downstairs, only she tripped over her shoelace on the very first step, sending her falling down the flight of stairs, luckily stopping her fall with her knee. She yelped, grasping her left knee. She felt an aching throb going through her knee. “Ow ow ow, oh, wow, ouch.” She muttered, needing to say something. Her father suddenly ran by.
“What happened?” He asked her, kneeling down to examine where she was grasping. He rolled up her jeans to reveal a large purple mark smack dab on her kneecap.
“Oh my.” He muttered, “There’s no way you can go out like that.”
“I can too!” Anya declares, jumping up, before grasping her knee and wincing, but her dad had already gotten up. She hopped on her good leg to the kitchen, rolling down her pant along the way in hopes nobody would notice. Her little sister, Holly, sat across from her, her face sickly white, as usual, with a pleasant smile from ear to ear.
“Will you bring back something cute for me?” She asked, giving her best puppy eyes.
“Uh, of course.” She stuttered, moving her attention to her sister. Holly beamed, showing her pearly white teeth.
“Yay!” She cheered, jumping out of her chair.
“What kind of cute do you want? Like, there’s fluffy cute, creepy cute, slimey cute, but who wants that-“ Suddenly Anya’s rant was interrupted by her dad, who was holding a bag of ice.
“Put this on your leg, it’ll heal faster that way.” He told her, shoving the bag into her hands.
“I don’t need that!” She yelled, placing it down on the table. “I’ll bet it’ll heal in an hour max, and even if it doesn’t, I’m strong! I’m tough! I can handle a little pain.” She bragged, suddenly standing up, putting all of the pressure on her good leg, and gritting her teeth as hard as she could to stop the sound of pain from coming out. Her eyes seemed to feel a bit wet.
“Fine then. But if you help, you know my number.” He simply stated before sprinting back up stairs. The moment she heard him upstairs, Anya hopped back onto her right leg.
“I’ll show him.” Anya mumbled to herself, grabbing a piece of toast and shoving it into her mouth. “I’ll travel all around Godai” she continued, “I’ll beat every gym leader...yeah” she chuckled with slanted eyebrows and a devious smile.
“Hey, who are you talking to Onnie?” Holly chimed in from the living room. Yes
