I would like to say that my adventure started out how most would expect. On one hand, I was able to capture my first pokémon, and help a mother Pidgeotto. However, due to not being prepared, that same bird knocked out both of my pokémon. "At least I can get to the pokémon center soon", I say with some feigned optimism, trying to hide how I really felt from the many people in the streets of Cascadia City.
The city, in contrast to my downtrodden mood, made people living in it feel serene and carefree, with its numerous fountains and their soothing ambiance of flowing water. The city is dotted with charming brick houses, which were really easy on the eyes. I came to a sign displaying the layout of Cascadia, looking for the pokémon center. It actually seems quite easy to find, due to the presence of a red cross along with some odd pink and cream colored pokémon with long droopy ears and blue eyes.
Like I expected, the pokémon center was easy to find, but I didn’t expect that same pokémon and same symbol, as well as what looks like a water background, to be present on a seemingly out of place marquee sign. The building itself had large, cold metal walls, offering a sharp contrast to the brick buildings that litter the rest of the city.
A nurse greets me with “Welcome to the pokémon center, How may I help you today, sir?” as I walked through the center's doors. Having never been here before, I was too busy taking in my surroundings to notice her. She actually has to grab my shoulder to get my attention.
"Yes, ma'am?" I ask.
"How may I help you today?", she replies
"Oh, um... could you please heal my pokémon?" I request, remembering what I came in here for.
"Why certainly," she kindly says, taking the two pokéballs from my hand. "By the way, is this your first time in a pokémon center"?
"Yes, it is." I state, wondering if I was really that easy to read. "Sorry."
"Don't worry about it, " she calmly says as she put the pokéballs into some strange device, resembling a museum display case with 6 pokéball-shaped slots, putting me more at ease. "It will just be a few seconds, sir, please wait, thank you." The whole time I was staring at that crazy machine containing my pokéballs, wondering just how in the world that thing worked. Five seconds later, the nurse takes the 2 pokéballs out of the machine and hands them back to me.
"Thank you, ma'am," I reply rather timidly.
"You're very welcome, have a good day, and be careful out there."
As I walk out of the Pokemon center, I can't help but take one last glance at that machine used to heal my pokémon, still wondering how something like that can heal a pokémon so quickly.
My next stop is the pokémart, which happens to be right next to the pokémon center. This building, while being made of brick, also features an out of place marquee sign that extends towards the sky; this sign seems to have a brown, tan, raccoon-shaped pokémon on it, with spiky fur in a zig-zag pattern. The pokémon is pushing... a shopping cart? I can't help but chuckle at that idea, but at least it was easy to identify.

Entering this building reveals pokéballs with different designs on them, spray canisters that are apparently called potions, and various rods, which are probably meant to fish for pokémon that live in the water like Aquamarine does. I approach the shop counter where a man is standing, “How are you today young man, did you need something?”
“Yes sir, may I have two potions please?” with as much confidence as I can muster.
“Sure, I’ll get those to you right away.” He gets the two potions, and sets them down on the counter. “Here you go, need anything else?”
“No thank you, sir.”
“That will be 400 dians, please.” After I give him the required dians, and put the potions in my bag, he says, “Have a good day.”
“You too, sir.”
I head back outside to the afternoon sun and the smell of fish to start towards my parents house. Along the way, I let out both Billy and Aquamarine, just seeing them makes me much happier, bringing a gentle smile to my face, I wouldn’t even mind Billy being annoying at this moment. The pokécenter and mart disappear into the background, well except for the marquee signs, to see more of the fountains Cascadia is known for dotting the area around the street we are walking on. I see Aquamarine riding on Billy’s grassy back, she must just want to relax and enjoy the scenery, “Having fun there?“ to which she squeaks cheerfully. “Oh, and thanks for not being so rambunctious Billy.” he calmly bleats in response, while trotting beside me.
A particularly large waterfall fountain, comes into view after 5 minutes of walking, the street also becomes more of a semicircle straight ahead of me, “Whew, I’m finally home.” gazing a few feet away and to the right of the large fountain, first house from the middle of the cul-de-sac Aquamarine, however, gets a bit over-excited seeing that fountain, hops off Billy’s back runs over to it, and begins lounging around in it, ”You silly mouse get out of there.” she doesn’t respond to that, continuing to just float around in the fountain. The door to my house opens and out come my Mom and Dad.
“Hi Son welcome home,” they both say relieved
“Hello Mom and Dad, how are you?”
“We’re good, but, seems your Marill is enjoying itself in the fountain.” Mom replies.
“Yeah Aquamarine’s being kind of silly now.” I say while grabbing her belly and setting her down on the street beside the fountain. “Oh, by the way, I caught a new pokémon in Verdant Highlands,“ pointing to where Billy wasn't. “Hey, where did he go now?”
“Who?” wonders Dad.
“Billy, my Skiddo, he’s a goat with small horns, along with a green and brown body that kind of resembles a small bush,” handing the pokédex to them to offer a visual description.
“Well, there aren’t any real bushes around us,” Mom remarks.
“But, quite a few potted plants, which he may or may not be able to hide in,” I add. “He’s been a bit of a prankster since I caught him.”
Aquamarine’s happy squeaking catches my attention. She’s standing next to some potted plants that are a house to the right of mine, which also marks the end of the cul-de-sac.

Apparently, Billy isn’t very good at camouflage. The plant he is hiding behind is small, despite being as green as his pelt, his white face sticks out very easily, and he is standing on the stoop right outside that house’s front door. The stoop is made of brown and reddish-brown bricks like the house, making him even easier to spot. “Billy, please get back down here,” I call, but he doesn’t move. He just bleats with a scared expression on his face, staring down the stairs.
Mom chuckles, “I don’t think anything with 4 legs can descend stairs sweetie.”
“Oh, right, duh.” I murmur sheepishly,” embarrassed I didn’t remember that from homeschooling.
“Dad, help me get him down please.”
Dad follows me to where Aquamarine and Billy are; she had no problem going down the stairs unlike Billy. Mom and the Aqua Mouse Pokémon just watch while Dad and I guide the kid down the stairs, resulting in several, joyous bleats from the Mount Pokémon. After getting Skiddo down from the stairs, everyone, except Billy, heads into my house, “I don’t want you destroying the house, so back in the pokéball for you.” Billy looks down with a rather adorable frown, I pat his head,” don’t worry about it, you will be back when I leave the house again, I’ll make sure you get into a more appropriate battle then before. Just please don’t scamper off again.” Billy’s face perks up at that, and he happily bleats before I send him back into his pokéball.
Entering the house, one would see plain, gray carpeting that stretches throughout the house, even through the upstairs area, except for the kitchen, which is fairly small and tiled. Across from the kitchen, is our dining room, slightly larger than the kitchen. There is a table in the center of the room, with three human-sized chairs, and a stool for Aquamarine to sit on, yes, my parents even did that to make her part of the family. Mom, Dad, Aquamarine, and I take a seat around the dining room table and begin having a chat about how my adventure started.
“Where did you go in such a hurry after you left the house, Andy, “Mom wonders.
“I went to Verdant Highlands, south of here,” pulling out the town map to show them, ”to try and catch my first pokémon, which you are already familiar with.” “But, I forgot to get any healing items for Aquamarine, and she eventually fainted thanks to a ticked off mother Pidegotto,” I add, looking towards my blue mouse with a frown.
They both gasp at that last part, “Glad she’s ok though,” Mom says, concerned.
“Be sure to carry any healing items at all times,” Dad adds, equally as concerned.
“I learned that the hard way Dad, I’m not ever doing that again if I can help it, I couldn’t imagine not having Aquamarine or Billy around,” I cast another worried glance in her direction. She gets up from the stool and gives me a hug, followed by some cheerful squeaks, which has me smiling broadly in no time. I pat her head to show my appreciation as she sits back on her stool.
“I was able to help that mother bird find her baby Pidgeys. That was pretty enjoyable seeing her face after finding those eggs.”
Both my parents start clapping, making me both very happy with myself and slightly embarrassed.
“Wow, that’s great Andy,” mom happily chimes.
“I want to see the rest of the Godai region, and make some friends like I did with that bird!” I exclaim with a smile. “It was fun exploring that area, in spite of the screw-ups,” another excited squeak from the blue mouse, clearly she is eager to travel. “Besides it would help to make some more friends in new areas, at least with my shyness around new people.”

While both flash momentary smiles, the look of concern never disappears.
“Please, be careful Son, we really wouldn’t know what to do if you got hurt in any way.”
“I will, Mom,” I try to reply confidently, but inside I’m scared and excited, I’ve only been through Clearchime Monastery, and Serenity Lake before, and have never seen any pokémon in Clearchime. “For now though, I could really use a nap, walking through a green field for eight hours will make you tired,” I say, with half closed eyes, followed moments later by a yawn.
Seeing me yawn, Dad laughs, “I bet it did.”
“Have a good nap,” Mom says, as we all get up from the table after 15 minutes of talking. I head upstairs to my room, while Aquamarine heads back outside to the large fountain to relax again, with my parents following her to keep an eye on her.
My room is plain, with a computer, closet for clothes, a comfortable bed with extra space for a certain mouse, a small clock that currently reads 2:00PM, and a small bookcase with the books used during my homeschooling. After taking my shoes off, and setting the backpack down beside the bed, I settle down for a nap.
I’m awoken by something sharp poking me in the side over and over, as well as bubbles hitting my face. “Billy, please stop poking me with your horns,” I mumble still groggy. “Wait... Billy?!” “How did you even get in here and what are you doing out of your pokéball?!” He just bleats, and turns towards Aquamarine, who’s stopped launching bubbles at me, “did you let him out?” She has a rather exaggerated smile on her face while she shakes her head no, “Sure you didn’t,” I reply sarcastically, “She must’ve entered the house after an hour and had Billy help her be my alarm clock,” noting the clock in my room which now read 3:00P.M. As I head back downstairs, leading the green goat down along the way, while Aquamarine can just walk down without issue, I see that nothing is out of place. “Whew, thanks so much for not destroying the house Billy.” “Mom, Dad I’m heading off again.”
“You are sweetie? Then be careful, but have some fun on your journey.”
“Make sure to give us some updates when you can by using the Holocaster, Andy.”
“I will, Dad.”
“Have fun out there,” they both say, they then proceed to hug me and my pokémon as we exit my house. We start towards the large fountain when… “Andy!” I hear someone call from the sidewalk, heading out towards the streets of Cascadia, “Hey Andy over here,” he yells again.
I approach him to see he’s wearing a shirt that’s half orange and half tan, with black sleeves, as well as red shorts, dark blue sneakers with the same odd brown pokémon I saw at the pokémart, and blond hair. Even to me, he looks like a walking rainbow, in fact I even refer to him as “Rainbow” sometimes. He’s my age, but started with his adventure a year earlier than me.

He is a neighbor of mine that lives in the house to the right of mine. His personality matches the assortment of colors, very bright and cheerful, always looking for positives even in the worst situations, this does lead him to be reckless at times however. “Kyle Cambridge, how have you been“?
“Hi, Andy, I’ve been great, recently got back from Olaclair Town after trying a gym battle with Delphine.
“How did it go?”
“I didn’t do so well, but, she is a Gym Leader for a reason so that’s to be expected, how about you?”
“Haven’t even battled anyone with pokémon yet, Kyle.”
“You haven’t? Well you should be able to find some trainers to practice on, in the meantime want to see my pokémon?”
“Sure!” I exclaim.
“Come on out Melody, Derek and Mary.” Three pokéballs open up to reveal a red bug with what I can only guess is a mustache on its face, a black and white bear with bits of gray on its body, and a small mouse, even smaller than mine, colored the same as Kyle’s shirt, except the black on the mouse is on its whiskers. “They are a Kricketune,” pointing to the red bug, “a Pancham,” pointing to the bear “and a Dedenne,” pointing to the very small mouse.
“Where did you get them from, Kyle?”
“Derek was a gift from my parents, who are pretty good breeders”
“Wait, they take care of pokémon for a living?” I ask, confused, as Mary, Aquamarine and Billy start playing around a bit, running around the fountain sort of like a game of tag. I guess the Pancham and Kricketune don’t want to play with the others.
“Yes, they do, some interesting thing can happen when you breed pokémon, such as having unique moves they don’t normally have as babies, takes a long time to learn though.
“Wow sounds fun,“ I happily quip, “how about Melody and Mary?”
“Caught them in Clearchime, Melody was a Kricketot when I caught her though. She grew up thanks to training her for awhile.”
“They can grow up?”
"Yes they can, but how this happens I have no idea." “Oh, careful around Mary, she is a very affectionate little hamster that likes to…”
“Ow,“ I yelp as a jolt of pain shoots through my leg, lucky for me it was blocked a bit by my clothing. The tiny spark plug is standing in front of me smiling after giving me a shock.
“…nuzzle people and pokémon,“ Kyle finishes, chuckling a bit at Mary’s antics. “Don’t worry, she doesn’t mean any harm by it.
“I h-hope n-not,” I stutter, still slightly feeling the sting from Mary’s nuzzle. I wanted to be annoyed at her, but that cheery face of Mary’s made that impossible, heck I would probably be like that too if I wasn’t so timid when I was younger.
“The only real issue is if she takes off somewhere, no average human will catch her till she tires herself out. She is very curious—”
As Kyle continues, I look down at my shoes and no Dedenne, ” uh-oh, Kyle she ran out into Cascadia.”
“and will not… what? Are you sure she isn’t just around here?”
“I didn’t even see her, other than when Mary was in front of me a minute ago, gosh you weren’t kidding. Aquamarine, Billy, did you two happen to see her?” They shake their heads no, I sigh, ” looks like the only way to track her then is to follow the trail of ‘love’ she left behind, come along guys.” Billy begins trotting next me with Aquamarine on his back. At this hour, Cascadia is very active with people all over the streets, which is lucky, or unlucky, for us as it means more people for Mary to nuzzle. I head out towards the street as Kyle calls back his Kricketune and Pancham then catches up with me.

We all continue walking down the street, asking any people we see if they have spotted a Dedenne. “Excuse me, sir but have you seen a orange and tan hamster around here?” I ask. “Sorry but nope, but something did give me a shock.” “It was probably a Dedenne that did that, thanks anyways, sir.” We try once again near the pokémon center and mart and get the same result, asking if anyone has seen a orange and tan hamster around the city. Most replied with, “Nope, but, something gave me a shock before dashing off again.” “It went near the Verdant Highlands, if that’s what you're looking for, Andy,” a voice from behind us says, before dashing off towards Verdant Forest. “Wait, who are you and how did you know my name?” I ask with a tinge of fear. He stops upon hearing the question, “I am the one she should be with, not you” he yells, the jealousy and anger clearly showing through his piercing glare. He resumes heading to Verdant Highlands, leaving us to wonder what was with that guy, the cryptic message, if he harmed Mary in any fashion and just who was the ‘she‘ that he was referring to, “I don’t have time for riddles Andy,” he states a little concerned, snapping me out of my train of thought, ”we need to find him and Mary“. “Yeah, let’s go,” we began heading in that mysterious guys direction, with all those questions still in my mind. Thanks to all the recent events starting with me seeing Kyle, the sun is an hour away from setting below the horizon by the time we arrive near the Verdant Highlands. “So you came, did you?” “Just who are you,” I say with some frustration at his earlier riddle. “You don’t listen, do you, like I said, I should be the one she should be paying attention to.” “Who are you talking about?“, I ask quizzically. “Me, ‘oddball boy‘ ” another more feminine voice asserts, “I am Yassa Anise Eleonora and I had Delano Reed Kamen lead you here once that Dedenne decided to nuzzle my Cordell that you see standing next to me.” I scan the new pokémon with my Dex, this one is identified as a rock/ground type called a Rhyhorn. Meanwhile, I hear Kyle angrily say, “you better not have harmed her—” “Relax, she’s just snoozing, on the bench to my right” she interrupts. That anger dissipates upon hearing that, he races to pick her up and finally puts her back into her pokéball. “You on the other hand Andy, I have a bone to pick with you.” “Not until I have my shot at him,” I hear Delano say. “So, it’s a battle you want? Ok bring it on, Billy , show them what you’ve got, “ I say feeling determined. Billy excitedly bleats and trots forward with an equally determined expression. “Good luck, Andy,” I hear Kyle happily cheer, I don’t respond though, being too focused on the battle about to occur. “You think that little bush is a match for my Lyla? Haha, you clearly haven’t read up on types,” as he throws his pokéball revealing a small blue and tan pokémon, which the pokédex calls a Cyndaquil and revels to be fire type. “Another disadvantage… well I hope it doesn’t have any fire moves, for now Billy use tackle” I call out. Billy runs towards Lyla, horns lowered, and easily slams into her, sending her careening across the sidewalk. “Great job” I say to him gleefully thinking this would be rather easy… that is until I see Delano smirking which puts me back on edge. “Did Lyla’s tail flame become larger all of a sudden?” I think to myself, quite scared for what may come next. “Lyla, use leer.” “Wait, did I just hear that correctly?” I wonder, as Lyla proceeds to do what she’s told, causing Billy to wince. “Either Lyla doesn’t know a fire move yet, or you need even more practice than me, either way, let’s end this before I’m proven otherwise. Billy, use another tackle.” I see him charge at the Cyndaquil again and ram into it, sending it a fair distance away. I run up the street to see the result as Delano calls out in fear… “Lyla?!, Lyla?!” However, even from here I can tell she has had enough for now as she doesn’t move. “Hmph, you taught that pokémon incinerate didn’t you, Delano, and you still didn’t use it even after the first tackle triggered her Blaze ability? Haha, Andy’s right, you do need more experience, that leer was entirely unnecessary. There’s no way that Skiddo would survive an incinerate that was helped by Blaze,” Yassa lectures to him with disdain. My heart sank low upon hearing that, “incinerate?! So he did have a fire move for her. There‘s no way Billy would survive such a move, especially with Lyla‘s flames as large as they were before.” “I’m not even done yet sweetie, relax” he calls back Lyla, stares at me with a scowl thanks to Yassa berating him, and throws his next pokéball and out comes an orange and tan, deer like pokémon. The pokédex explains in its robotic voice, ”Deerling, the Season Pokémon, when seasons change, this pokémon’s fur changes as well.” “A pokémon that changes appearance as the seasons do? That’s interesting and pretty cool” I whisper to myself. “All right, let’s try a tackle attack.” Same as before happens, Billy rams into the deer with it’s horns, except this time that deer barely moves after the attack, only taking one step back. “Well, that didn’t do much but with some more of those this should be easy.” “Ok, Cabbage, use Camouflage” The Deerling seems to slowly vanish into the background, leaving the Mount Pokémon and I very confused. “Where did he go all of a sudden? Seems I slightly underestimated this guy.” Delano smirks while saying,” It’s still here, it just became part of the environment, in this case, the sidewalk. Can you find him now, can you? Now, use tackle” I hear Delano say, to seemingly nothing. Thanks to not seeing Cabbage due to camouflage, I don’t even bother to issue a command. Billy just stands there and takes the tackle attack; that leer from Lyla must’ve lowered his guard, as the tackle knocks him off his hooves. “How in the world am I supposed to hit a pokémon that can blend into the environment?” This whole time since Kyle and I arrived here, small fountains are spewing water into their pools. “I guess I can try that, but Delano isn’t is easy to trick as Billy was before, and if he does catch on, Billy’s going to faint more than likely. Or I can have them collide, hopefully Billy can pick up on Cabbage’s clopping.“ Billy has gotten back up now, but he is now a bit wobbly now as well as his bleating being softer. I’m very fearful of him getting hit again. “Billy, come here,” he trots to the sidewalk where I am. I spray one of my potions on him, it seems to heal his wounds and now he bleats louder, bringing a small smile back to me. Delano has Cabbage growl at Billy, which he and I find adorable, as I hear the noise though I quickly shout out, “ Follow the sound and hit it with a tackle Billy.” After the tackle, the Deerling barely flinches; it does reappear on the sidewalk, clearly visible now. “Well at least that takes care of the camouflage, now maybe I can get somewhere.”

“So you figured out Cabbage’s camouflage, big deal , your pokémon surely can’t take too much more.” I don’t bother listening to his rant “Billy lets try a growth now please.” A green aura surrounds his pelt while his face gets more serious. I hear Delano tell the Season Pokémon to use synthesis, this time a green aura surrounds him… “Wait, what is going on?” “Oh, he’s just healing himself, he says sporting that cocky smile. After the aura disappears, he continues, “face it, boy you have no chance of beating him now, he’s as fresh as when he started this battle.” I feel both irritated and a sense of hopelessness, “You’ve got to be kidding me, he can heal himself too!? Skiddo’s going to need some more help from me to pull this off. Don’t worry Billy I’ll make sure you come out on top, this cocky show-off is not beating us I say to myself with resolve. “Use growth again” I call out. Now the aura around his pelt gets larger as well as a faint green aura around his horns appearing as well. “Still trying to win huh? Whatever, this will be over soon enough, then Yassa will notice me and maybe even like me,” I hear him rant followed by, “use tackle once again Cabbage.” She charges at Billy, who is knocked back quite a bit, he then trots unsteadily toward me bleating weakly. “Don’t you give up,” I said as I use another potion on him, “You’re going to win this, I’m sure of it.” Another, more confident bleat escapes his mouth as looks back toward Cabbage. I need to end this battle quickly, I whisper tensely, “Use growth again Billy.” Both auras become even larger now. “Enough of that, Cabbage give it one more tackle.” “You do the same” I say to Billy as soon as Delano finishes his command. Billy and Cabbage charge at each other, ending in a clash that sends Cabbage skidding across the sidewalk on its back, while Skiddo is just knocked back a bit from where the clash happened. “Whoa, that was a powerful blow,” I say to myself in amazement, ”was that because of the growths?” “N-no way! I don’t believe it,” he gasps, seeing the now fainted deer, which he returns to it’s pokéball soon after. Andy sends in Billy(Skiddo)
Delano sends in Lyla (Cyndaquill)
Billy uses tackle
Lyla's Blaze ability is activated, Lyla uses leer
Billy's defense drops by one stage, Billy uses tackle
Lyla faints
Delano sends in Cabbage (Deerling)
Billy uses tackle
Cabbage uses Camouflage, and disappears into the environment
Cabbage uses tackle
Andy uses a potion
Cabbage uses growl
Billy's attack is lowered one stage
Billy follows the growl made by Cabbage to hit it with a tackle
Cabbage becomes visible again
Billy uses growth
Billy's attack returns to normal and special attack rises one stage
Cabbage uses synthesis
Billy uses growth (attack rises one stage special attack is now +2
Cabbage uses tackle
Andy uses a potion
Billy uses growth (attack is now +2 and special attack is +3)
Cabbage uses tackle
Billy uses tackle
Cabbage faints
Billy wins the battle with Delano's team As I put Billy back into his pokéball, I hear Yassa say with contempt to Delano, “That’s why trainers always carry items, for all that talk you spouted about how bad Andy is, your mistakes made you look worse—" “Quit being so arrogant to him” I chime in suddenly. “It is none of your business” “It is when your just bashing him over and over for some mistakes. Maybe he didn’t want to put Lyla in danger by using incinerate or maybe his own nature got in the way during that battle. However, concerning his Deerling, they both did the best they could and give me lots of trouble, doesn’t that deserve at least some praise?” Hearing me say that, Delano now has a surprised and confused expression on his face. He walks towards me and questions, “Why did you say all of that and did you mean it? “Of course, I did Delano, Cabbage was a tremendous pain to beat; that easily could have ended with Billy fainting. Don’t worry about that battle, you’ll get better with time.” “Thanks, Andy.” “Now, what is your problem with me, Yassa?”

Wearing an annoyed look, she spouts, ”As you probably don’t know, in my school I became class president, it was quite easy given my determination, intelligence, wit, poise— “I get it,” I quickly say, annoyed, “please move on.” “Anyways, thanks to becoming Class President, I soon had everyone at my beck and call, and I mean everyone, no one ever ignored me in any way. That is… until 8 years ago, when you ignored my brilliant smile that day, I see her face tense up, as if angry now, “and chose that Marill over me, pointing to Aquamarine during that part, “ever since then I’ve been unable to smile.” “I was shy of everyone, except my parents, in general not just you, I say defensively, I even was scared of her at first. But because she appeared gentle, I warmed up to her after awhile. You could have been my friend too if you appeared calmer, tried talking to me, and if I wasn’t so timid during that time, besides I don’t think I am the only reason you cannot smile. Maybe you‘re just too used to getting anything you want,” I hear my blue friend squeak after I finish. I assume that she’s in agreement with my speech, too bad I can’t understand poké-speak. “Hmph,” Yassa huffs with jealousy, “ right now all I care about is taking that blue mouse down! Let’s go Cordell!” However, neither I nor Aquamarine see it move an inch, in fact, it appears to be sleeping. “Not much of a battler, is he?” I say to Yassa , a little bit surprised at this myself. “Maybe he got bored from us chatting.” “You shut up,” she quickly replies, fuming. “Anyway, try a bubble please Aquamarine.” She sprays some bubbles from her mouth that do hit the sleeping Ryhorn but all it seemed to do was wake it up. “Seriously, It didn’t do anything, I exclaim, “I know I have quadruple advantage thanks to water destroying both his types, so what the heck just happened?! As I’m brooding over that, Yassa laughs and gloats, “You dolt, everyone knows that bubbles are made of air, there’s so little water in them that even Cordell can stand that. It feels so good to be smarter than you haha,” flashing that smile of hers as if to mock me, ”now Cordell, horn attack please.” I see the Ryhorn run toward Aquamarine, but it takes a little time before it gets up to speed and makes contact, jabbing her with it’s horn. The attack causes her some discomfort; she rubs her belly with a pained squeak that is enough to bring me back to reality again. “Hmm, since Yassa just told me that bubbles are made of air, clearly normal usage won’t work. This Ryhorn seems lazy, maybe taking advantage of that is the better way to approach this. Use bubble again when starts moving toward you” “Cordell use another horn attack” Cordell starts moving toward the Aqua Mouse, with her shooting another bubble spray at the Ryhorn soon after. While the bubbles themselves don’t do anything physically, the impact from them seems to slow him down quite a bit. Aquamarine keeps up the spray the entire time that Cordell charges at her, he instead stops just before making contact, and slumps over, as if he just ran a marathon. “Well that was unexpected, but at least it worked”, I say with relief. “Get up, Cordell, you lazy Ryhorn! Pfft, never mind, there is no way that mouse will survive my awesome Preston.” “Whose Preston? “ I wonder as Yassa puts Cordell back in it’s pokéball and sends out what looks like a small black and red human looking thing with blades for arms. “Isn’t he just awesome,” she cockily states, “he’s never failed in any of my school competitions.” “There’s a first time for everything,” I reply with false confidence, looking at the blades with worry. “ it’s a Pawniard huh, and a dark/steel type. This isn’t good at all, I doubt I can even do damage to it.” I hear a worried squeak come from my mouse, “she’s scared too, I hope I can get us through this one too like I did with Delano’s Deerling.” “Try a tail whip for now Aquamarine.” While she does wave her her tail back and forth, this doesn’t even phase the pokémon in the slightest, it doesn’t even retaliate after the move, again we are both confused. “Try a bubble now.” As she fires a spray of bubbles, Yassa suddenly calls out, “Preston. use protect.” unfortunately before they make contact, the Pawniard curls itself up absorbing the impact from the bubbles. “Now, go after her with pursuit!” “Run and keep him away from you with another spray of bubbles,” I quickly say, while Preston begins chasing the blue mouse around the area, while the bubbles do slow it down a little, it can still easily keep up the chase. Her spray gets interrupted when she falls over into one of the small fountains around the area, landing belly up. My heart pains as I fear a slash from one of Preston’s blade arms is heading for my Marill. “Gotcha, now scratch,” I hear Yassa say in a almost sadistic manner. As I figured, those blades packed a major punch, aside from hearing her high pitched squeaks of pain, upon looking closely at her, she was even cut up slightly showing bruises on her belly where they made contact. After the scratch, the Pawniard walks three feet away, maybe it thought Marill had fainted.

While she hadn’t fainted, she looked as if I could blow her over just by talking to her. I wanted to stop this battle before things got worse; Aquamarine had other ideas though, ”Are you serious, you want to continue,” I worriedly say, more concerned for her than losing this battle. “you could die if he ‘scratches’ you again,” More choppy but determined squeaks come from her. Taken aback by her show of resilience, I whisper with a lump in my throat, “go ahead… but be careful.” As she starts walking unsteadily toward Preston and Yassa, I think to myself, ”that Pawniard has got to be tired after the first torrent of bubbles, even if it isn’t showing it,” gazing back at him, “there is a chance of him tiring out, but can Aquamarine hold out that long?” Yassa gasps in disbelief “How in the heck is that mouse able to even stand after that?” I say nothing as I’m wondering the same thing. “Whatever, one more scratch should finish her, Preston, you know what to do. Aquamarine begins spraying bubbles again just as Preston starts running towards her, at first the Sharp Blade Pokémon easily runs against the bubble impacts, slowly closing the distance between it and Marill, who is still spraying bubbles. However, it then appeared to stop making any progress at all, it looked like an odd version of tug-o-war was going on. To my astonishment, Pawniard begins to get pushed back by the bubbles, he still tries to close the gap but is far less successful at this point, having to run and take breaks every few seconds due to fatigue. It soon gets knocked over by the torrent of bubbles and doesn’t move which prompts Aquamarine to stop spraying. “Unbelievable,” we both gasp, mouths wide open Andy sends in Aquamarine (Marill)
Yassa sends in Cordell (Rhyhorn)
Cordell is asleep
Aquamarine uses bubble, it's ineffective (in terms of actually causing harm)
Cordell wakes up and uses horn attack
Aquamarine uses bubble as Cordell runs toward her using horn attack
Cordell is buffeted by the bubble impacts
Cordell faints due to fatigue
Yassa sends in Preston (Pawniard)
Preston is idle for this turn
Aquamarine uses tail whip, it's ineffective (the debuff doesn't even occur)
Preston is idle for this turn
Aquamarine uses bubble
Preston uses protect, bubble is rendered ineffective
Preston uses pursuit to chase down Aquamarine
Aquamarine begins running away from Preston and uses bubble while doing so
Aquamarine's bubble gets interrupted by falling backwards into one of Cascadia's small fountains
Preston uses scratch (critical hit)
Aquamarine uses a bubble while Preston tries another scratch
Preston is buffeted by the bubble impacts and eventually knocked over
Preston is unable to continue due to fatigue
Andy wins against Yassa Kyle cheers, “Awesome job, Andy!” “Thanks, Kyle.” While I’m elated about the battle, a look towards the blue mouse makes it bittersweet. That last spray must’ve lasted ten seconds or so; she fainted soon after stopping. “How did she even continue an attack for that long and even have the will to continue after that first scratch? Either she doesn’t want to lose or she didn’t want to disappoint me, for now I better stop back at the pokémon center for both Billy and Aquamarine.” Putting Marill back in her pokéball for the moment, while looking in Kyle’s direction I hear Yassa say, with confusion and anger, ” I can’t believe my brilliant Pawniard lost to that blue balloon.” “Well, you should have at least one reason to smile right now, Preston almost won that battle for you—" “I don’t care about that“, she fumes, cutting me off “I demand perfection.” “If that is how you rule as Class President, then that explains why people don’t ignore you. Right now they are probably intimidated by you and pay attention to avoid seeing your bad side. Eventually, someone will stand up to you and then you may even be ignored by everyone that used to pay attention to you.” That must have struck a nerve, because she shows a tinge of sadness now, I continue, “if you don’t want that to happen, calm down and be friendlier towards people and Delano would be a good place to start.” "I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try to be friendly to people," she responds, still with a sad tone to her voice, “Delano has been with me ever since I became Class President.” “Speaking of that, why are you following her around like a sheep? Kyle asks. “It’s because I love her, Delano confidently asserts. “You what?!” Kyle, Yassa and I all gasp, surprised. “I said I love her,” Delano blurts out again, “ever since she came to visit me when I was sick for a week, I’ve loved her and wanted her to notice me.” “So that’s why you were trying so hard to beat me.” Yes, I figured if I beat you Yassa would finally notice me as more than just a pawn. “You told him about your jealousy of Andy and had him hunt us down?” “Yes, I did, of course I needed a reason to get Andy here, that Dedenne nuzzling Yassa’s Rhyhorn was a coincidence. I thought it was Andy’s and came looking for him. “Actually, she’s mine,” Kyle responds. Yassa calmly announces, “I never knew you felt that way about me Delano.” She blushes and smiles a much more sincere smile towards him. “To be honest, I’m not sure about my feelings toward you but can we at least be friends first?” “That would be fine for me,” Delano says with a smile. As they walk off back into Cascadia, Yassa says, ”Thanks Andy, you may have given us both a reason to smile.” After a minute of Kyle and I just staring at each other, he asks, ”Um… what just happened?” “I think I just played matchmaker for a blooming couple or at least a friendship. Anyway I‘m glad we were able to help them and found Mary.” Kyle laughs, “Mary did most of the work, Andy” “She’s still your pokémon, isn’t she? Then we both did something Rainbow, come on let’s go.” As we make our way back to the pokémon center, Kyle jokingly says, “Andy, you should know I just like wearing colorful outfits.” “So colorful that people could confuse you for a painters palette,” I joke back to him. “Says the walking kaleidoscope haha.” “Ok, we have got to be the easiest people to spot at least in the city if not the region.” “Maybe,” Kyle cheerfully smiles. We arrive back at the pokémon center 5 minutes later. That same nurse from my earlier visit greets us “Hello, you two, welcome to the pokémon cen— hey wait a minute you were here a little while before,” she recalls pointing to me, “what happened?” “My friend Kyle’s Dedenne, darted off into the city, and my two pokémon got into a battle with some trainers while looking for it.“ Wow, seems you both had quite the scavenger hunt looking for it. Yes, we did, she loves seeing the region and will nuzzle people upon meeting them, Kyle adds. “That’s cute,” chuckles the nurse, “let me heal them back up to great condition.” “Thanks” we both say as hand her our pokéballs. They are returned to us ten seconds later after going through that odd machine once again. Well I’d better head on home, Kyle yawns, “my parents would love to hear of my little adventures in Olaclair City and here.” “They sure would, Kyle. Have fun and don’t let Mary out of ball without keeping an eye on her.” I’ll try not to,” he says as he walks through the sliding glass doors. I take a look at my Holocaster to see it’s now 5:00PM. “Drat, that whole event with Mary took long, and Clearchime is a long way away. I’m better off getting an early start tomorrow morning.” I approach the nurse again, “Excuse me, is there a room for me to take a nap in here?” “Yes, there is, please follow me.” She leads me down a hall to a door on the right, inside I see six bunk beds. “Here you are sir.” “Thanks a lot ma’am,” I say as she exits the room. “Who knew caring for pokémon was so mentally exhausting, I feel like I’m a parent here… which I guess I am in some ways,” I proudly mumble to myself as I settle down for yet another nap. “Ouch, what zapped me?” I can barely hear a faint squeaking noise; my eyes open up to reveal a very familiar orange hamster. I get zapped again by Mary’s nuzzle “Ok, I’m up you silly hamster, quit doing that. What are you even doing here anyway?” “She darted here when I let her out early this morning, sorry Andy.” I sigh, “Kyle, you were supposed to keep a closer eye on her.” “Mary’s been like that for awhile now, she’s been wanting to go and see more of the region.” “I’m planning to do the same thing actually, more specifically, going to Clearchime Monastery. How about we go there together?” I get another nuzzle from the orange spark plug, “I guess that’s one yes,” I say while giggling at her antics. “Sure!” “That would be cool seeing some new areas, if we go to Olaclair City, maybe you could watch me try again with Delphine.” After checking my holocaster for the time, which read 6:00A.M Saturday morning and letting my pokémon out of their balls, we all exit out of the Cascadia City pokémon center and begin our trek to Clearchime Monastery.
