Bree took in the woodland air of the familiar surroundings. “Ahhh, Skytouch Forest!” she exclaimed, both hands on her hip with her feet spread shoulder width apart, granting an air of confidence to her silent, non-existent audience. “Nugget, today's the day we get you a friend!” Looking down to her tiny friend, who was already scuttling around a few feet ahead of her.
Despite coming out here all the time growing up, the little Nincada always seemed to explore the area as if it was his first time out here. She had already determined a long time ago that he wasn’t the brightest Pokemon out there, but he was hers and she still loved him dearly. Still, today was the day.
“Nugget, today, we’re on a hunt!” she exclaimed once more, this time getting the attention of her small bug friend. The little one ran towards her, slowing down a bit before bonking his head into her shin. Bree had noticed, throughout the years, that him doing this was a bit of a sign of affection, though in her studies no mention of other Nincada doing this came to the forefront, and was something she was planning to do some more personalized research into.
Reaching forward and picking up her small insectoid friend, holding him in her arms as she began to make her way into the forest. She knew the forest pretty well, compared to most, seeing as she spent so much time here. She knew a majority of the kinds of pokemon living here, and more importantly, what bugs lived here. She sighed, however, as this time was different compared to others.
Today was the day she began to start what she considered the final stage in her life's goal. The Bree Sanctuary of Bugs, title pending, wouldn’t build itself! However, she feared that once she accomplished her goal… what would be left for her? She shook her head, and decided now isn’t the time to be thinking of something like that. She just got started on what many considered the fun part of the journey!
Still, taking this first step was difficult enough as it is. As she took her first step over a large root, careful not to trip over it, she decided to think about what the first Pokemon she would catch on her own would be. A Caterpie or Wurmple, maybe? Both were common for the area. Cutiefly would also be nice! And if she was real lucky, maybe she could catch a Heracross!
Still though, as she and her little friend ventured through familiar terrain, she began to lose her apprehension. The more she walked, the more comfort she felt from the cool air from the shaded canopies, the chattering of the insects surrounding her and the flapping wings of Pidove high above her. This truly felt like home, almost more than her actual home. With a sigh, she pressed on, hoping to find something sooner than later.
