{Character Relationships} Picture | Biography |
| Name: Clary Evans
Relationship: Former Traveling Companion
Description: A strange girl who appeared in Kotoba at the outset of Silas’s journey. She successfully roped him into a trek through Skytouch Forest to help her catch her first Poke’mon and favorite Poke’mon – a Ledyba. Silas initially thought he’d found himself a fast friend, but due to a controversy over the accidental, yet brutal, treatment of an adversarial Cherubi, the two parted ways.
Status: Assumed Living | | Name: Margaret Hastings (30)
Relationship: Friend
Description: An administrator at the Scurarte Poke’Center, Margaret Hastings is a very proper woman. She dons short, jet black hair cut into a bob, oval glasses, and has pleasantly sharp facial features (framed well by the A-line of her hair). She can often be found wearing stilettos, making her taller than even most men. She has a young daughter of thirteen and has the affections of her co-worker, Jack Caelum.
Status: Living | | Name: Lyra Colt (19)
Relationship: Girlfriend
Description: A beautiful and stunning girl, Lyra Colt was Silas’s rescuer from the public beating he’d received at the hands of her brother. She is the assistant librarian at her local Secondary School and tends to her grandfather’s needs in her spare time. She has never ventured outside of Scurarte, but has always dreamed of seeing the world. She has only ever read about the world in black and white pages of the books she keeps. She and her brother’s mother passed away from cancer, and their father abandoned them shortly after their mother’s death. She felt a spark after first meeting Silas Edington, helping him clean up and lick his wounds after getting beat up by Tanner Colt. Lyra and Silas made a promise at the annual Scurartian festival known as the "Vow of Lights". There, Lyra asked Silas to promise her that he'd make his dream of being a Godai Gym Leader come true and that, once his dreams were realized, that they would get married. Silas accepted.
Status: Living | | Name: Jack Caelum (36)
Relationship: Friend / Brother in the Brotherhood of the Traveling Pants
Description: A quirky and good-natured man, Jack does all that he can to assist those close to him. He has long harbored not-so-secret feelings for his co-worker, Margaret Hastings, and looks after her and her daughter’s well-being as best he can. He is a brilliant man and serves as the Scurarte Poke’Center’s lead medical technician. He is a very practical man, but loses that practicality wherever Margaret is concerned. Under false-pretenses that the woman of his affections liked men who wore plaid, Silas was able to trick the man into trading him a pair of business slacks for a pair of his ugly, horribly-plaid cargo pants. Now, the two are considered brothers in the Brotherhood of Traveling Pants—a bond none dare speak of and few know exist.
Status: Living | | Vikki Hastings (12)
Relationship: Friend
Description: Vikki is the daughter of Margaret Hastings and, as such, helps out regularly at the Pokecenter in Scurarte Town. She is an excitable, dramatic and eccentric young girl who wears big, gaudy glasses despite not having an astigmatism, dyes bright neon stripes into her hair on a regular basis, and keeps her hair tied up in pigtails most of the time. Vikki has often been seen as a tomboy, because she actively speaks her mind and doesn't seem to have very good manners. She's never been seen as a "girly" girl and that hasn't earned her very many friends. She struggles in school and struggles with bullies. During the Vow of Lights festival in Scurarte, Silas gave Vikki his Shelmet to keep. The two were fast friends and Silas felt it best that she have a companion to keep her company. Vikki promises to bedazzle Shelmet's armor before Silas returns to Scurarte.
Status: Living | | Name: Oran Colt (81)
Relationship: Mentor
Description: The father of Kieran Colt, Oran Colt took responsibility for his son’s failures and raised Lyra and Tanner as his own. He is strict and stern, having only a mind for tradition and holding an archaic outlook on life. He is a wise man, though. He holds a farsight about others that far exceeds Silas’s own gift. He loves his grandchildren dearly and, after testing Silas in a game of Go, consented that Silas would be allowed to visit more with his granddaughter, Lyra Colt.Oran orchestrated a plot to coerce Silas into accepting the quest to find Lyra and Tanner's missing father. Using the Vow of Lights festival, Oran trained Tanner and his Pokemon to become strong enough to challenge Silas. If Silas were to lose, then he would be sworn to keep one promise to Tanner Colt of his choosing.
Status: Living | | Name: Tanner Colt (17)
Relationship: Rival / Enemy
Description: A pugnacious and scrappy hooligan of Scurarte, Tanner Colt runs amuck through the back alleys and narrow streets of the town, painting the walls with his trusty Smeargle with graffiti and vulgarity. Silas’s first encounter with the boy warranted him consequences—both for good and for ill. Tanner and Silas battled their Poke’mon after Silas indicated some vague knowledge of Tanner’s unfortunate upbringing. Then, once Silas had handily beaten him, Tanner decided to make it a battle of human proportions. Tanner, once he’d handily beaten him, was scolded thoroughly by his sister and then later, his grandfather. Tanner still does not accept or trust Silas, feeling that he's not good enough for the affections of his sister. Tanner trained with his grandfather to be able to challenge Silas to a battle, once more. Tanner won and earned the opportunity to ask a single promise from Silas during the Vow of Lights festival. Tanner made Silas promise that he would find his father, Kieran Colt, and bring him back to Scurarte.

NincadaObtained at Level 5

| Nickname: N/A Gender: Male Type: Bug/Ground Ability: Compound Eyes Height: 1' 8" Weight: 12.1 lbs.
{Personality}Nincada is strange for his species. Unlike most, he prefers to stay awake during the day and sleep at night, though it wouldn’t be unusual to see the lazy Poke’mon sleeping at all hours of the day. He is a greedy little hitchhiker-- riding attached to the face of Silas’s backpack as if it were the trunk of a tree. Despite his moodiness, Nincada is fiercely loyal to Silas and will defend him at every turn. He understands Silas’s ambitions and will forever serve his ends until they are achieved, no matter what enemy he has to go through or how badly he has to thrash an enemy to do so. Sometimes, his hunger for battle can get the better of him and he can end up seriously hurting a Poke’mon more than he means to-- not stopping until his opponent is completely immobile.

| Nickname: N/A Gender: Male Type: Bug Ability: Swarm Height: 1’ 8” Weight: 13 lbs.
{Personality}No one can pack a punch like this Karrablast! Fool-hardy and proud of his power, Karrablast will face down anything and anyone! It doesn’t matter what it takes, he’ll keep on bashing his horn into whatever is brave enough to face him in a fight until he or his opponent falls. This Karrablast holds few interests outside of training, eating and sleeping, making him a straight-forward and reliable companion for Silas’s goals-- and he rewards his Karrablast well. This Poke’mon is most certainly the juggernaut of his team and he doesn’t intend to get rid of him anytime soon.

| DewpiderObtained at Level 14

| Nickname: N/A Gender: Male Type: Bug/Water Ability: Water Bubble Height: 1'00" Weight: 8.8 lbs.
{Personality}This guy likes contact! Whether in a Poke’mon battle or just having the tactile sensation of being coddled by his trainer, this little guy just wants to be touched. In a battle, he’ll seldom try and dodge anything! He just wants to take the hits, roll around and absorb as much damage as possible. That doesn’t mean he won’t try and give as good as he gets. He’s just not as strong as some. Quite the clingy thing, it is always disappointed to have to return to its Poke’ball, but is always chipper when it is released. It doesn’t seem capable of holding grudges and is, quite plainly, a happy little Dewpider who likes to roll with the punches (often quite literally).

| #214Encountered at: Skytouch Forest Intro Topic:Who I Am
| Nickname: N/A Gender: Female Type: Bug/Fighting Ability: Swarm Height: 4’ 11” Weight: 119 lbs.
{Personality}Oh no... quite vicious in her stone cold heart, this Heracross was born with a taste for blood. Whether it's literally or figuratively, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that the Heracross can be rather sadistic in her ways. To her, it doesn't matter what the journey is as long as the end goal is reached. She's stubborn, manipulative, and cautious. Morals? Principles? What are those? As long as she gets what she came here to do, then that's that.

{Personality}Bippity boopity! This cutie here isn't the brighest bulb in the pack. In fact, where is his pack?! He must be alone now - oh well; time for a new adventure! Quite the spazz and inattentive Cutiefly, there's little that can make this guy unhappy. In fact, should there ever be a situation that calls out any negative emotions from him, he'll always find a reason to be happy! After all, there's enough sadness in the world, and he wouldn't dare add to that collection.

It had rained in the night, again, but such was the season. It brought a chill to the morning and caused fog to carry low, clinging to the roads and the valleys of low rolling hills. The mist nestled in like a blanket and curled itself around the bases of trees and weaved itself through the leaves of low bushes. It was a caress against the skin, soft and familiar. The sky still threatened to cry as clouds covered its face. The canvas of dense, gray billows guarded the jealous sun and didn’t seem intent to let it bathe the earth in its light anytime soon. It was, perhaps, foreboding to some that they couldn’t see the road ahead. For a young man who was always staring at his own feet, though, this was what could be considered peaceful. Despite the calm weather, it was strange walking without Nincada. Before this journey had started, Silas Edington had never gone a day without his companion at his side or clutching to the face of his backpack. Between the two of them, they didn’t have a whole lot to ever talk about, but even just hearing the subtle buzz of his Pokémon’s wings or feeling the antennas stroke against the back of his head had always been a comfortable reminder that he wasn’t alone, anymore. Now, as weary steps carried the young man back down the road towards Scurarte Town, the silence felt deafening. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath, and Silas didn’t really appreciate it. He’d done his best back in Skytouch Forest. He knew that. Nincada and Karrablast did their best to work together and bring down a Heracross. Even as the images of that battle crossed his mind’s eye, he could vividly recall the sounds of the heavy impacts his Pokémon had suffered. It made him cringe a little and he reached a hand to his belt almost on a reflex. Filled with trepidation, Silas touched the special Pokéball his Heracross now rested in. The intent in the Heracross’s eyes…Silas had never seen its like, before. Many Pokémon were natural hunters, and that was certainly one thing. It was natural and even practical to assume that a trainer’s Pokémon might become food for another, if they weren’t careful. Silas understood that and could even appreciate it. Nincada wasn’t prey, though. Neither was his Karrablast. Yet, if Silas had failed to capture that Heracross as he did, then he had a sinking feeling that his best friend might be dead, right now. It was a complicated emotion to square for him. Silas wanted to be strong and he wanted strong Pokémon. He’d dreamed of having a Heracross of his own, one day, but…why did the victory seem so hollow? With a breathy sigh, Silas said to no one in particular, “Here goes nothing, I guess.”The trainer took hold of the Net Ball that housed his newest Pokémon and tapped the button to expand it in his palm. Then, with a slight wince, he let the Heracross free with a flash of pearlescent light. The deep blue carapace of the Pokémon opened to let the wings flash out and its arms raised, making it appear larger than it was. It turned slightly to either side, taking in its immediate surroundings before focusing a narrowed gaze on the human before it. The long horn was tipped with a heart-shaped spade, proving that this particular Heracross was, indeed, female. There were no enemies around her. When that was established, her wings folded inwards and her carapace closed. There was recognition in the Pokémon’s eyes as she looked to Silas, but neither did she seem particularly pleased with him or the Net Ball that he held in his hand. A heavy foot dragged against the ground, scuffing dirt behind her before stamping that foot hard into the earth. Her arms remained down at her side, bent slightly at the elbows. Again, that odd sensation of two dissimilar emotions played war inside of him. Just the sight of the Heracross was enough to make Silas want to smile. It welled up a note of excitement in him and, while not wanting to trivialize his previous victories, this was a moment where he felt like a true success as a trainer. Yet, his Heracross was also an intimidating presence. His other Pokémon were all relatively small, which, for the start of his journey, seemed appropriate. Typically, one did start small and they grew into their power. Suddenly, Silas had a venerable juggernaut among Bug-types on his team and part of him felt undeserving of it. Silas crouched down until he was sitting on the back of his heels, leaving the Pokémon to stand about a head taller than him. The motion caused his Heracross to take a cautious step backwards and stare hard at her trainer. The Pokémon’s two-clawed hands clenched and relaxed. He often wondered how the Pokémon he captured saw him. As Silas got a better look at her, he could still see the heavy scuffs and scratches across her body and her breathing was still rather labored. ”You’re hurt.” The Kotoban trainer stated the obvious. Heracross issued a rather disgruntled buzz that wasn’t terribly unlike what he often heard out of Nincada, save for that it was deeper and far more threatening in its presentation. Silas held up a hand and kept one weather eye on the beetle- Pokémon as he slowly slipped his backpack off of his shoulders. He let the strap trail down one of his arms before cautiously setting it down in front of him. “It’s alright. I’m not here to fight you. I’ve got to help you. I’m your trainer, now.” He spoke in a very slow cadence, hoping that whatever calm he could instill would get the Heracross to stop flexing her claws like she was waiting to reach out and maim whatever offending hand came forward. There was no change in the Pokémon’s posture, but Silas still continued to unzip one of the front pouches of his backpack. “My name is Silas, and I’m very glad that I found you. I know you’d rather be back in your forest, but I need strong Pokémon, like you, if I’m going to become the best Gym Leader Godai has ever seen.” Silas’s dirty mess of hair still fell in front of his vibrant, oceanic eyes. He reached a hand up and brushed the majority of it aside so that he could better look inside of his pack for one of the potions he had. The baggy sweater that he wore, even in the mild spring weather, hung loosely around him and threatened to fall off of one of his shoulders. The white button-down underneath was heavily wrinkled all the way up to the collar and smears of dirt still clung here and there and about the skin of his neck from a night spent in Skytouch. All in all, he looked a proper mess, but that wasn’t entirely unusual for the young man who lacked a proper sense of aesthetic. “I know it’s selfish of me, but there’s a chance it can work out for the both of us. I think I can help you get even stronger? What do…” He sometimes found the nuances of speaking with the intelligence of Pokémon to be rather complicated. Phrasing mattered and the way that things were framed could make all the difference. It also didn’t help that his Heracross was still looking at him like he might suddenly sprout two heads. “Do you fight for food? Or…to test your strength?”The Heracross stamped her foot and made a noise that Silas recognized as a declination. “Do you just fight because you want to?” He felt as if understanding the motivations of his Pokémon might lend him towards being able to better control and earn the submission of the Heracross. His question seemed to give her pause and she looked at him warily out of the corner of one of her ovular eyes. Her antenna twitched subtly, but she gave no noises of affirmation. Silas considered her silence consent. “Where I’m going, there will be a lot of fighting. It will be a long journey, but I want to complete it using only Pokémon like you.” The Heracross’s eyes narrowed, as if doubting the words that continued to pour out of his mouth. “That’s alright. I don’t much like people, either. They’re difficult to understand and not all of them are trustworthy. Here…”As Silas produced a potion, he removed the small guard that prevented it from being used accidentally in transit. He extended it towards the Heracross and she immediately hopped backwards, her wings fluttering out of her carapace to carry her deftly away as she assumed a rather guarded stance against her trainer. “No, no—it’s okay! Look—” To prove that it wasn’t anything harmful, Silas sprayed some of the medicine against his own palm. Heracross made a disgruntled, accusatory buzzing hiss and then stepped forward very slowly. Silas turned his palm upwards and held it out as small droplets of moisture pooled up and dripped from between the spaces in his fingers. “See? It doesn’t hurt. It’s just a potion. It’ll take the sting out of some of those wounds.”Heracross tentatively stepped forward, her arms raised and her claws unfurled in case she needed them. Her sharp eyes went from the outstretched hand to Silas’s face and back again as she continued to inch forward. When she was near enough, she leaned in and sniffed at air in front of his hand, her antenna alert and twitching subtly so she could sense any movement out of him. “That’s it.” Silas encouraged in a low tone, not taking his eyes off of the Pokémon. Cautiously, the Heracross raised her arms and turned her hard-shelled body towards him, presenting one of the larger scrapes that marred her armor. Silas turned his hand over and Heracross shoved her body in against his hand, as if taking out some of her mood against the offer that she was begrudgingly accepting. It made Silas rock a little on his heels from the force of it, but a small half-step backwards kept him planted. The young man began to rub what remained of the potion on his hands into the wound. When he felt his skin drying, he raised the potion up towards her and lifted the hand that was held against her. “I’m just going to spray a bit.” He assured when she made another guttural noise towards him in warning. He squeezed the bottle and a fine mist painted against the Pokémon’s form, which he rubbed in delicately afterwards. Silas watched as Heracross’s face relaxed and her raised arms lowered a notch or two. “Not so bad, anymore, is it? Want to show me some other spots?”Silas took his time with Heracross, tending to her as she went through several different phases of prideful fits and wanting to assert her will in the matter. If she was doing this, it was only because she wanted to and certainly not because she enjoyed it! Well, that was perfectly fine, as far as Silas was concerned. Progress was progress, and he’d take what he could get, at this point. When they’d finished, Silas stowed the empty potion bottle in a different pouch of his bag so he could discard it later. “There. Now, we’re headed to Scurarte Town. Do you want to walk with me?” Obstinate as ever, the Heracross pulled her arms in a fold across her chest and looked indignant. She offered no sounds of her refusal, however, and Silas merely shouldered his bag and started walking. “Suit yourself.” It was a bit of a gambit, he knew. He managed to get some twenty yards away while Heracross watched his back. Her gaze remained critically on him and her body shuddered the further he walked away from her. Whether it was anger or anxiety that coerced her, Heracross’s carapace opened and she jumped forward, gliding a short distance before landing and running the rest of the way to catch up with Silas. As she got in step with him, Silas didn’t take his eyes off of the foggy road ahead of them. He just smiled quietly to himself and clipped Heracross’s Pokéball back onto his belt. |
