Trainer Profile
♢ Character Name ♢ Jesse Rogers | ♢ Nickname ♢ Jess | ♢ Gender ♢ Male | ♢ Age ♢ 24 |
♢ Hometown ♢ Dianette, Central Godai | ♢ Trainer Class ♢ Artist | ♢ Height ♢ 5'7" | ♢ Weight ♢ 118lbs |
{Appearance}
Hair Color & Style: He has shoulder length, brown hair, with a slight curl to the ends. The style is loose and messy where it falls to his shoulders, and a long fringe obscures his eyes from view. When sight is necessary, he clips it to the side.
Eyes: His eyes are deep set, narrow and framed with red-rimmed glasses. The colour is bright green and intense; the corners crinkled with crow's feet.
Clothing/Accessories: His wardrobe is full of dull colours; blues, blacks, and greys. He mostly wears comfortable, loose trousers, that allow for easy exploration and movement, plain t-shirts, jumpers, cardigans and hoodies. Preferring cooler clothes and short sleeves, he's rarely seen outside wearing more than one or two layers, opting for thermal, warm fabrics when freezing is a probability. His most comfortable and well-worn piece of clothing is his GSUC pullover.
There are several braided, leather bracelets; some darkened with age, with metal rings and bone charms woven into the strands, as well as a few thick, flat strips of leather, with one large strip engraved with Unown symbols, resting all the way along his left forearm up to his elbow. A black steel ring, with a dark blue inlay, covered in an intricate Charizard pattern sits on his right ring finger. The only bright splash of colour he owns is a set of bubblegum pink hair clips.
He has a large black and grey backpack that he travels around with. The main compartment holds most of his bulky items; clothes, food, a few sketchbooks and general supplies. The front pocket holds most of his art supplies; pens, pencils, paints and paintbrushes. There are two pockets on both sides which hold smaller, more compact supplies; such as Pokeballs, berries, TM's and any other miscellaneous items that are small enough to fit.
A silver chain sits around his neck, the end fastened with a small magnet that connects with a similar magnet on his starter's Pokeball for easy detachment. He wears a similar chain along the right side of his belt, running from the front to the back, which holds five more slots for Pokeballs.
General Appearance: Jesse is long-limbed, with a runner's build. His natural skin tone is a golden olive, exposed skin tanned a deep, rich caramel from constant exposure to the sun. He has calloused hands; dry, cracked skin often stained with ink, oils or dirt. Bitten nails, painted dark grey. With a bright smile a near constant presence, there are a smattering of freckles across his nose and cheeks. He has high cheekbones, a long nose and a rounded albeit thin face.
Large, scarred gashes and puncture scars cover his left hip, and down the outside of his thigh. Silvery and pale, their colour shows their age. He walks with a slight limp on occasion, when his leg acts up, but he holds himself up with a defiant posture. Despite his scruffy hair and lack of fashion sense, hygiene is one of his few priorities, while general care is not. As long as his hair is clean, he doesn't worry about the split ends. When he's alone, the smile fades, and his posture softens. He curls inwards, eyes downcast, lost in thought.

{Personality & History}
Personality: The first thing most people notice about Jesse is the carefree aura that he exudes. He firmly believes that, while there is a right and a wrong, life is for having fun. He believes that if you take things too seriously all the time, especially if you take yourself too seriously, then you’ll live your life in misery, and probably die young. This first impression that he leaves is somewhat deceiving, while it is true that he is fairly carefree, and he almost always acts carefree, he does have more depth to him than he lets on.
Jesse is a curious, creative and intelligent person and with a high fascination for unexplainable mysteries. He's kind and welcoming, making friends wherever he goes. A great listener, he will never grow tired of listening to people talk and explain. On top of that, he has a great knack for coming up with creative solutions to other people's problems.
One of Jesse’s favourite pastimes is people-watching. Not to be rude or to use the information he observes against the individual, but because it entertains him to watch snippets of the lives of people around him. He makes up tales, situations, and backstories for strangers he's never met, wondering if their reality is as exciting as what he comes up with.
Whenever there's a conflict, he prefers to mediate, rather than take sides. He needs to know the entire story, from both sides, before deciding where he stands. He tries to understand both points of view, attempts to get both parties to understand each other and resolve the conflict peacefully. In addition, Jesse is rather timid when it comes to Pokemon and battles, while not adverse to them he would prefer not to if possible.
The most prominent fear, for Jesse, is his fear of the ocean. More specifically what's in the ocean. While most people afraid of the ocean are scared because of the unknown, Jesse is terrified of what he knows is in there. His fear, while not directed to Pokemon in general, does make him wary of the creatures. Despite, or more accurately, because of this fear, if there is a need to go in or near a body of water, he will use logic and rational thinking to psych himself into doing the task. The result of a childhood accident, his phobia is less debilitating and more of an inconvenience.
History: Jesse grew up in a wealthy household. He was always given what he wanted when he wanted it. He lived a very cushy life, and never had to worry about money, even after he left home money has never been something he had to think about. Growing up he didn't have a lot of true friends. There were the kids he was forced to play with when his mother dragged him to other estates where the wives chit chatted while the kids played. There were his school friends that played with him because he had all the best toys. But the only one that wanted to be friends with him was his twin sister Chrissy.
The two were inseparable and often spent their time exploring the city. They were close and looked out for each other, getting into trouble at school and causing mayhem wherever they went. Chrissy was the light in an otherwise dark and dull life. She was the one that encouraged him to pursue art, despite his parent's desires for him to take over the family business.
His father owned the Robert & Son's company, a fairly popular high-end jewellery brand. Their pieces are always well made, and beautiful. The brand is known for their looks as well as the quality. They expected many things from their children, hoping to keep the company strong through generations of the family name, but neither of the twins felt any want to do so. Despite Chrissy's protests and Jesse's stubborn silence on the matter, both their parents believed Jesse to be a wonderful successor.
His relationship with his parents was strained at best as a result. He was being pushed into a box that felt far too constrictive, it didn't fit. He envied his sister, who got away with far more than he ever could, but she stood up for him when he fell silent and he loved her to pieces for it.
One day, when the twins were fourteen, they convinced their parents to allow them to go on an adventure alone, outside of the city. They had strict rules to follow and were made to take the family Luxray in case of an emergency. They took a train down to Kroy and made their way along Shoaltide Path; their parents allowed them to go to Brillaya Coast and back. The tide had been low that day. Chrissy and Ren, the Luxray, walked along the path while Jesse thought it would be fun to swim for a little bit. The current wasn't strong, the water calm, Jesse was a good swimmer, so he had no worries; some further out from the path.
No one was sure of the cause, some believed he'd swam too close to the Pokemon's territory, others speculated it was just a random attack. A stroke of bad luck.
Jesse was attacked by an angered Sharpedo. He couldn't remember much from the attack, just pain, and red. Chrissy later told him that Ren came to his rescue. Fending off the attacker and dragging him back to shore, and eventually back to Kroy. He was sent to a hospital, his parents were terrified for his health and while they scolded him for going so far from safety they were more concerned than angry. None of the wounds were too deep or inherently life-threatening, but some did need stitches. They left him with a slight limp, which got better over time as the wounds healed properly. Sometimes the muscles twinge a little if he walks too much, but as he got older, Jesse found it happened less and less.
His parents were different after the accident. His mother started to baby him, gave him more attention than he knew what to do with, but she started to encourage his passions and listened to what he wanted. She worked to see her children smile more, he'd overheard her say to his father once. She hated seeing her children unhappy and if that meant letting them run off into the wild then so be it. His father was a little more stubborn than that. He wanted to keep their family legacy strong, but he had a soft spot for his wife.
It took six years of passive aggressive comments and arguments before his father finally gave in and stopped pushing. Two more years after that before he took a proper interest in what his son and daughter wanted to do with their lives. He was surprised with Chrissy's scientific brilliance and Jesse's creative talent. As he looked through some of his son's work, one of the designs caught his attention. He took the artwork with him and a few months later gave his children early birthday presents, a set of black rings with a blue inlay and intricate designs. The same designs that Jesse drew.
Once the two left high school, they both went on to study at the Godian State University. They spent less time together, as they studied different electives. Jesse continued to study art while his sister went into the sciences, learning more about Pokemon biology and aura. The two stayed close, but they found their own groups of friends from their own classes.
It took him a while to get used to it, but once he learned to peek out of his shell, Jesse realised it was a lot easier to make friends without the influence of his parents looming over his head. Once he became comfortable it was easier for him to open up and talk to people, and the more he did it, the more he realised how fun it was. At first, he spoke to the people sat closest to him in his classes, hoping to find people he could at least eat lunch with. He made friends with a northern girl named Senu and an older boy named Jack. He listened to their stories and told his own. Apparently having a battle scar was kinda cool.
As the lessons went on, he imagined what his other classmates might be like. At first, it was what kind of music they would be into, or their favourite tv show. He thought about the different things they could all have in common, what would separate them from each other. Then it turned into wild backstories and epic tales of woe or heartache. Jack called it pseudo fanfiction. It encouraged him to talk to more people and it didn't take long before he was friendly with most of the class. He enjoyed making friends.
Most of his group of friends wanted to be illustrators or animators when they finally graduated, but Jesse was never sure of what he wanted to do. He enjoyed art and loved studying it, but the career options it provided were limited, and none caught his attention.
It wasn't until halfway through their final year that Chrissy suggested becoming a trainer. She was intent on doing it herself, hoping to learn more through her own independent studies once she left university. It would be some form of income, and while they both knew they had their parents begrudging blessings no matter what they did, which included enough money to keep them comfortable, they both wanted to be able to pay for themselves. It would still allow Jesse to create art as he saw fit.
As he thought about it, the idea appealed to him. He wasn't as hyped up for battles as most trainers, his sister suggested contests at one point but that seemed like far too much hassle. He was still weary and a little fearful of Pokemon in general, so it had the potential to help him get used to them. He knew that they weren't all bad, and he quickly convinced himself it would be a good idea.
